Nenad Milijas loses appeal over Wolves red card
Thursday 29th December 2011, 2:57PM GMT.
Midfielder Nenad Milijas this afternoon lost his appeal against the red card he received during Wolves’ game at Arsenal on Tuesday. He will now serve a three-game ban with immediate effect.
Milijas was sent off by referee Stuart Attwell for a challenge on Arsenal midfield Mikel Arteta and had been hopeful of having the decision overturned.
But an FA disciplinary committee today dismissed the appeal.
Speaking in the post-match press conference following the 1-1 draw, McCarthy said: “If he [Atwell] sees it again then it can’t be [a red card]. Nenad’s got his foot on the ground and makes contact with the ball.
Milijas’s ban will begin with Saturday’s clash at Bolton, followed by the home league match against Chelsea and the FA Cup third-round tie with Birmingham at St Andrew’s.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is to make no comment on the FA decision until his media conference ahead of the Bolton game.
But he was seething immediately after the game at Emirates Stadium.
When asked if he thought Milijas’ challenge deserved a sending-off, McCarthy said: “I will go and ask Stuart (Attwell). He did what he saw but if he sees it again, then he will know that it can’t be one (a red card).
“Nenad has got his foot on the ground, makes contact with the ball and I don’t think he leaves the ground.
“Someone said to me that his studs were up. Well you generally do when you tackle with your foot, sliding in.”
McCarthy added: “That rarefied atmosphere out there is a difficult place to work in whether you are a player, coach, manager, referee or assistant.
“It’s pretty pressurised out there and I think there was a lot of pressure on him to do it.”

Typical decision from the FA, an Association managed by idiots. Did we expect more? No had the decision been against Arsenal or another top club the ref probably would not have even booked the player.
Sweet FA – they know nothing about football.
Surprise surprise. You can’t tackle anymore. They should be rescinding the red and banning Arteta for conning the ref by holding the wrong part of his leg to make it look worse, and fining Arsenal for failing to control their players when they haranged Attwell to send him off.
I think we should change the name to Liverpool Wolves. Or get Milijas to change his name to Gerrard.
Wouldnt have mattered anyway as our great tactician and clipboard would have dropped him for 5 games ! Then again we have got the mighty edwards and henry in midfield ……..oh dear sweet f.a from the deluded f.a . ….remind you of anyone ?

What a joke!!! If this were the other way round Wenger would be going mad!! Atwell and Alsey are not fit to referee the dog and duck Sunday league team!!
Typical F.A bias towards the so called Premier bigger teams

Disgrace !
Why are the FA in the pocket of London Clubs… Money ?
Disproportionate decision for a good tackle. Arsenal players fans are a discgrsce for getting a fellow pro sent off. Arteta you are a wimp ? Should we be asking the FA to look at Songs challenge of |Fletcher / Hunt ? biased ?
Attwell – get rid of this amateur before he causes more disruption.
What a bunch of bad losers ? that includes the FA

If that was one of the big four, We know that it would have been rescinded, I rest my case. Premier league full of U KNOW WHAT!!!!!! UTW.

I will moderate my language as my post was not printed yesterday as I used a word questioning the parentage of some of the Arsenal players. Todays decision is disgusting and a further example of the two tier league that exists in the Premiership. The behaviour of the Arsenal team and the unpunished fouls by Song leave a very bitter taste. Think I would rather see Wolves relegated than trying to compete with these hypocritical cheats. Why do these clubs always get away with it? Remember Fabregas’ two footed lunge on Ward last season ?
Well there’s a surprise….
Song gets off scott free as well. Shocking, no wonder the fa have the reputation they have
Report abuse
Streako you really are a moron! you have got about has much brains as the FA! you know has much about tactics as you do about football SFA, go away idiot and do one.
When you have a corrupt regime with corrupt officials what do you expect, if it had been the other way round Milijas would have got sent off for acting, one rule for them and one for us, respect refs – why?
When a “top” lol, ref can give a penalty for the player stubbing his foot then you know everything is lost?
4) You are a top supporter. Thriving on any bad news and always up for slating. I reckon the Wolves team really appreciate your support over the many years… not!
Edwards is not properly fit, so we will probably have to go with Guedioura? His passing has been poor though when he has started. The other option is 4-4-2 and move Forde inside and play Hunt on the wing. A bit of a gamble though.
Unlucky boy,
The F.A. have to show they are taking a hard line on aggression in tackling. I think they can’t recind many of the red cards because that would highlight how poor the refs are.
What did we expect in this two tier League. One rule for the rich and the rest can get lost. Perhaps Hunt is right and we should adopt the tactics deployed by the cheats??
Has football become a non contact sport ? How can milijas’s challenge be a card let alone a red. How can Gordon taylor come on the telly and comment on what Stephen hunt has said when the top clubs have been doing it for years. What’s he said about that ?? The prem league is absolute full of you know what. It feels every week we play against 12 men and it’s hard enough for the lads as it is. We’re too honest as a team. There’s a couple of times our players have not gone down in the box this season and we’ve got sweet fa for it. I hate to see cheating but next time hit the deck and surround the ref until he gives it !! Anyway good battling draw against the Gooners.
It feels sometimes the powers that be don’t want us in the prem league.
The blame must lay with Morgan, Moxey and McCarthy, surely it’s their fault?
Thanks Streako, managed to turn a story where Wolves have been wronged into another attack on the club.
Call yourself a supporter?
UTW
Report abuse
Absolutely incensed by this decision. What did Milijas do that was any different to the challenge that Gary Cahill was dismissed (by the same awful referee) for a few weeks ago against Spurs? His red was rescinded, as was Jack Rodwell’s earlier in the season for a similar challenge.
Basically, the FA have backed Atwell because failing to do so would surely mean they would have to finally admit they made a poor decision in originally fast-tracking him to the Premier League.
Go to any club in the division and ask the supporters who they think is the worst ref they’ve seen and I’d wager at least 16 clubs would provide Atwell as the majority choice (I’d say all 20, but Mark Halsey would surely get a shout somewhere).
Wolves should ask, publicly, what grounds the FA have to uphold this decision over Cahill & Rodwell’s earlier in the season. They could probably find more examples to back up the point too (Wayne Rooney…).
The Football Association are a complete joke. Ancient, out-of-touch, corrupt.
Unbelievable ! I didn’t even see this tackle as a foul. Yet another reason why I (and thousands of others) are falling out of love with this game. Attwell is a joke – there shouldn’t even been a need to appeal – he should have watched it back and rescinded the red card. Shame on him and shame on the FA for upholding this decision!
#4 Streako – What is the matter with you?!?! any excuse to have a go at our Wolves! how could you turn this story into an attack on the managment?…. Numpty.
Anyways, typical FA decission, didn’t expect anything else, it would have said their Ref was in the wrong. The sooner goal line tech is introduced the better, this way the introduction of technology will start to make strides forward for football instead of stagnating! Hopefully video refs could soon follow?… maybe….

Agree that the red card appeal should have been upheld as it was a yellow card at the very most. But we can’t say the FA favour big clubs etc as lowly Wigan got there red card appeal upheld.

So the Premiership is now a no contact game then no tackling anymore might as well wrap them up in pads like american footy what a bunch of overpayed wimps supported by a bunch of fat old men who are motivated by money and not the true game anymore SHAME ON YOU FA your a disgrace
Report abuse
I have had to listen to a lot of guff from people trying to defend the tackle as ‘fair’ because it won the ball, sadly these people clearly have zero grasp on the laws of football and the use of excessive reckless force in tackling even if the ball is won.
Milijas’ lunge,as he flew in, he was out of control, the straight leg with studs up flew in hard and fast, it was just lucky that Arteta saw it coming and managed to avoid it and a season ending injury.
Maybe Wolves fans would be happy if he stood there to take the impact of the challenge just to illustrate to them how dangerous it was.
Do you think there is a chance Arsenal’s players get a bit more angry about these challenges as we have seen two serious injuries to Ramsey and Eduardo in the past couple of seasons.
Well done to Wolves for holding out for a well earned point & to the F A for upholding this correct decision.
Maybe a bit more of an issue here than just us lowly Wolves, isnt Mr Atwell the FA’s youngest fast track ref? perhaps they want to back him not sack him so he cant be seen to make any big mistakes.
How’s it go “Same ole’ Aresenal.. always cheating.”
A disgraceful, although fully expected decision from the FA. Atwell is a product of their own rules, procedures and fast track ref devlopment program. Faulting him would be faulting themselves.
The FA do everything for money and power. They moan about FIFA being corrupt – look at yourselves first. I have no doubt they would love Wolves to lose to Bolton in order to make the bottom of the league contest just as exciting as the top of the league i.e. making more money, regardless of the impacts it has on teams and whether it is deserving or not.
I look at the referees Wolves have had this season and its a disgrace. Overall we have had the lions share of bad luck and poor decisions against us. Yes we ain’t been playing great but we did not deserve to lose to Newcastle or Stoke.
With poor decisions against liverpool and other teams too, I think Wolves are 5 points at least worse off just due to referee’s decisions. But hey ho can’t do anything about it.
It was an amazing point against Arsenal and totally deserved against a team that spends just as much time faking injury as it does playing the beautiful game.
Lets just focus on how we are playing. As i said sometimes it has been very very poor and only we (Wolves) can rectify that. Lets play good football and start sorting all this out by beating Bolton. Big performances and passion needed all over the pitch for every game. We got some real quality players and they all love the Wolves. UTW.

Agree with everyone above. The F.A are an absolute disgrace. Run in London for London. Dont you just know John Terry will captain England in Euro`s. No common sense and no balls

what an absolute discrace, double standards demonstrated time and time again by the guttless, corrupt F.A !! unless your a big london or manchester club you can forget a fair hearing, lets face it Wolves just arnt important enough to warrant a decent amount of justice from the F.A or referees during the match, or any body that can influence the outcome of our season. im livid with this….

Think I might contact the police and say that I saw an assult take place against fletcher and hunt! Referee should of spotted it! Either two yellows or a straight red for song! Ref lost the plot after that!
HAHAHAHA Its a joke. Milljas gets a 3 game ban for winning the ball, but the FA even NOW, cant make a decision about John Terry! JOKE!
I have to say this has angered me so much that I had to sign up to the FA website and email them – even with the fact that Atwell can not be seen to have messed up once again, the tackle can never justify a red card.
We have now lost one of our few players who can pass and retain the ball. Hope the number of us emailing the F.A. will at least show what a miscarriage this is.
As for Arsenal, it is very sad to see such a gifted footballing team feel the need to dive, cheat and moan in their attempts to defeat us.
I am not a massive fan of Mick but have to say he has always conducted himself well in reference to refs and the opposition (unlike his own fans at times). He must now wonder why?
Well done Mick, your’e cunning plan is coming along nicely, I apologise for the tag ‘Thick’that I regularly adjectivise to your moniker, as you are a right little Baldrick (well a ‘Bruno’ at least),aren’t you flower! Let me explain, Mick-ophants; On the day the Disciplinary panel sat to consider the justly awarded red card to Milijas, ‘Bruno’ sends out a sacrificial lamb,( Stevie ‘Hunt’), to make that outrageous statement knowing full well that once the panel heard that, there was more chance of Tony Blair giving the £25m he’s ‘made’ since leaving office, to the injured soldiers charities, than them rescinding the card; Now that has enraged those on here,of course, that what it was the whole point; Another bonus for’ Bruno’is that ALL the refs will now take a strict line when WWFC play, so no more ‘benefit of the doubt’; Now despite how badly the performance, the scale of the defeat, the inconsistencies of selection, ‘BRUNO’ will point out to the conspiracy of the refs, the ‘injuries’ and of course the fans that dare to see through his ‘Emperors new clothes’ management ability and give him gib from the stands; Genius Mick, sorry Bruno, you may well have kept your job long enough to be there in the Championship in August; What a guy, shouldn’t that be an a?????
This decision is a complete travesty – Milijas is being unfairly punished since his “intent” was to win the ball not take out the player. Sammon gets his red taken away after catching a defender in the face with his arm before he made contact with the ball!!! The FA and the referees are an embarrassment and the officiating this season generally has deteriorated.
And how come Song gets away with kicking out at not one but two of our players? How is that there is no review of the video to see those incidents? Wenger was obviously concerned as he withdrew Song right after that incident.
The poor decision making on the field combined with the outlandish decisions being made by the FA have to be a major cause for concern. We keep boasting we have the best League in the world, which I question, but the officiating and administration is all part of it and leaves a lot to be desired.
The tackle was a disgrace, and if Arteta had not jumped he would have had one of his legs broken, as has happened many times against Midland players. Look at poor Ramsey and Eduardo. I was at the match, it was clear he intended to hurt Arteta. I also agree that Song should have been sent off. At last, the FA have made the correct decision. Congratulations to the FA!

The FA have upheld the decision because ATTWELL is totally incompetent and incapable of being a Premiership referee, he makes so many errors that he should be demoted. Unfortunatly he is one of the wonder boys who were fast tracked to be a top referee. He obviously has no experience of how the players fain injury to get players booked and sent off.
WE ARE UNFORTUNATLY THE VICTIMS OF THE FA WHO CANNOT BE WRONG!!!!I bet they do not give reasons for the decision and what ALEX SONG DID WAS FAR WORSE,!!!! It stinks.

I’m confused about a few things.
1. Does Conor Sammon play for a London team or a top four team? Because all the people on here seem to think only London teams/top four teams get the breaks and yet his red card was rightly rescinded.
2. Someone mentioned the Arsenal players haranguing the referees but what were the Wolves players, led by Stephen Hunt, doing around the ref at every decision? Asking him what time x-factor was on later?
3. Rolling around pretending to be injured? You mean, like Zubar did?
4. “winning the ball” does not mean that you can tackle with whatever force you want. I thought it was a harsh red card but clearly the official and the FA, having looked at the tape and heard the appeal disagreed.
5. Fabregas’ two footed lunge? Umm… are you in favor of crazy tackling or against it? I know that Karl Henry is a serial offender, I saw that Zubar injured himself trying to injure an Arsenal player who wasn’t even on the pitch, Stephen Hunt caved in Petr Cech’s skull, and Wolves in general are know throughout the league as one of the poorest tackling teams in England. So, I’m confused, either you are for tackles like “Cesc’s two-footed lunge” or against them and as such would condemn you own players’ actions on Tuesday as well.
6. Have a happy holidays and enjoy the relegation battle ahead.

So Wolves got the outcome we all expected!!
Yes the big clubs do receive preferential treatment – that is well established and has gone on for many years and will no doubt continue if the TV moguls continue to dictate matters.
Unfortunately this appalling decision now leaves us with very little in the way of options for the crucial game at Bolton & what the FA’s decision has done is highlight the fragility and lack of depth of the current Wolves squad. So we can’t just blame the incompetence of the FA for this current midfield shortage.
This is a result of continual under funding on the playing side that anyone who follows Wolves will know has been ongoing for three years.
Like us everyone one else in our ‘relegation league’ survival is the sole ambition & I fear we will not see the improvement in the squad we all crave for and desperately need to survive.
Sadly I believe without substantial additions during the transfer window – this willing but ultimately inadequate group of players will take Wolves back to the Championship & I for one will not be renewing my early bird as I have done since its inception. I am fed up of being charged full whack for what is currently the poorest entertainment value we have witnessed for a long time.
Finally a plea for McCarthy – Be bold this Saturday – play 442 with Seb alongside Fletch as well as Guedioura & Hamill and lets take three points from a team who’s form and confidence must be worse thans ours. Whatever the outcome at least then you can say that we had a real go and tried to take the fight to the opposition.

Further proof, as if any were needed, that the Premier League is being run and refereed for the benefit of the few rather than the many. The essence of sport is ‘uncertainty of outcome’ and this has been quietly destroyed by the accumulation of wealth and influence of the big clubs – and we all know who they are.

One word…..DISGRACEFUL!!!!
If that were Man Utd/Arsenal then the FA would have rescinded it immediately AND been around on bended knee apologising to Sir Alex and Arsene. Two tier league is right. One rule for the top 6, and stuff the rest.
FA…..you should be ashamed of yourselves

Well he’s not Wayne Rooney is he. Double standards throughout the FA. The Norwich full back has to serve a One match ban after he got his fifth yellow card against Wolves. He gets to serve it when Norwich play Spurs. A game he is ineligible for anyway as he is on loan from Spurs. What a load of cobblers!
I watched Wolves versus Liverpool, 1968 on YouTube the other night. There wouldn’t have been a player left on the field if today’s referees were officiating. Players getting chopped every few minutes. They just got up and limped for a few minutes. Only one sub allowed and that had to be to replace an injured player
Arteta was holding his leg just below the knee and at best Nenad caught him on his toes.

Discusting!!!

A disgraceful yet not unsurprising decision. The standard of referring this season from alleged professionals has been shocking. In any other walk of life these guys would have been sacked for consistent incompetence. If their union had anything about them they would let the refs come out in front of the camera to explain the decisions that ultimately cost jobs both on and off the pitch if a club goes down.
How Song stayed on the pitch and Nenad got sent off is typical, but at least it did not cost us points like other decisions that have been outrageous such as the Newcastle game.
Very predictable, if I am not mistaken Atwell last Red was rescinded so they had to keep the faith this time. Bemused Wolf using the right term Cheats. I am sure the rule book specifically mentions that player shall not cheat. It really is time to enforce that simple rule. Those captured on video deliberatley trying to con the ref are cheating. Even if it is just trying to decieve or convince him he was wrong. It is cheating. Ban should be imposed. The sight of the Arsenal players facing upto and hunting Atwell was simply sickening to watch. A bade trend, doesnt matter what you do only if you get caught.

Disgusting decision but not exactly unexpected, in my view. After all, we are talking about the FA with its history of incompetence, e.g. never making Brian Clough manager of England, hiring Mr. Crapello as England manager who as a player for Juventus showed what he was up to when spitting Phil Parkes in the face when playing UEFA-Cup in 1972. A competent organisation would have seen long ago that Mr. Atwell is completely out of his depth, e.g. his ridiculous failure to award Jarvis a penalty at home to N’castle when 1 up August 2010, his “performance” when Wolves played Everton in 2009 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/8295263.stm ) and other more recent errors (incl. sending Gary Cahill off for Bolton v. Spurs). If there had been no risk of a backlash against Wolves, I would have been in favour of giving him the treatment normally dished out to people like Danny Mills the next time he steps out at Molineux.
What a biased, out of touch body is the F.A. As an earlier post said, if they are prepared to consider appeals(waste of time)then they should look at Song’s challenges and impose retrospective punishment. Yet another totally biased and blinkered judgement. In my opinon they just want to protect yet another incompetent and inadequate referee, who by the way, is the same idiot who booked virtually everybody on the pich last season in the Newcastle game and spawned the unjustified tag of Wolves being a ‘dirty’ team. This guy needs demoting for good.

The whole game is now bent in favour of the privileged few ever since the birth of the Premiership.Us makeweights are only there to make up the numbers and therefore provide a ‘competition’ for a season to meet TV commitments.
The match against Man City was the first in weeks that we hadn’t had a penalty awarded against us at home.
As far as I’m concerned, the sooner the so called elite disappear into the sunset and join a Super Euroleague, the better.
Then us honest clubs can go back to enjoying the game we love-played on a level playing field where money isn’t the be all and end all.

This is everything that is becoming wrong with the game – should we just make the sport non-contact now and be done with it? Despite the video evidence clearly showing that this was not even worthily of a yellow card let alone a red, the cowards at the FA yet again demonstrate a complete and utter incompetence in their handling of the situation…funny how the morals of the powers to be change when it’s in their favour – remember the appeal over the length of Rooney’s ban for England recently?
I’m ashamed to be an England & Arsenal football supporter today…
Wenger, come on, if this was one of our boys you’d be shouting from the rafters on the injustice…you should be supporting the Wolves team

Attwell, where’s your spine? You know it’s an honest error on your part, yet you retreat back into your shell and remain silent – very disappointed…

It’s time to stop being grateful for being here & to start to stop accepting the double standards of the FA.
Come on Wolves say it how it is!!!!
I tell you what else is coming, Stephen Hunt on a disrepute charge, for being honest enough to say it how it is, Sky & Gordon Taylor were a disgrace today & the club will be charged with failure to control its players.
Oh yeah, Streako, if you were, as you claim, around in 86/87 then why don’t you adopt the attitude we all had at that time, the seige mentality, coz that’s what we need right now, it’s us against everyone else, or at least that’s how it seems, so lets stop all the ‘in-fighting’ & get behind the team 100%, as we all used to back in the 4th divison, if you were around then you’ll know what I mean.

This decision is nothing short of a disgrace. I was at the game and there is no doubt the inept referee Mr Attwell bottled the Alex Song decision and then wrongly dismissed Milijas. What is more galwling is the fact that both Vermaelen and Ramsey were both remonstrating because the referee did not allow an advantage after Milijas’s ‘foul’, hardly the reaction you would expect if they thought a team-mate had been subject of ‘serious foul play’.
My only critisism of WWFC is that we were too vocal about it afterwards in the media, should’ve kept our powder dry until the appeal – all that has happened is that the FA have gone ‘we’ll show ‘em’.

here we go again, one rule for them and one for us, we have a club who is trying to do its best, a club that has British owners and a chairman who is not under investigation for any dodgy dealings. we are abiding by the rules, improving our ground and financially we are on an even footing.
if we had dodgy owners, owed a fortune, had a crumbling stadium and we were in London the media would be all over this and the FA would of sent a car round with a bunch of flowers saying sorry and offered us there backing
its obvious that we dont do back handers but if we did

The FA is an absolute joke, and words do not do justice for the hypocrisy of the Arsenal team. Time after time they go in hard and get away with it, and yet feel it’s fine to roll around the pitch in fake agony when someone tackles them. Well, their lack of silverware in recent years is just deserts, and long may it continue while they carry on like that!

We require an independent enquiry into the conduct of the FA . Fairness and honesty are clearly not at the top of the FA’s list of priorities. Protecting referees from the consequences of their poor decisions seems to be their priority. It amuses me that this is the same organisation that recently went to FIFA to plead the case of Wayne Rooney, after he deliberately kicked an opponent. Poor Nenad, he merely tackled an opponent – 3 match ban, upheld by the cronies in the blazers. Rooney has had his three match ban reduced to two matches – thanks to the rigorous efforts of the FA. This is because they think he is important, unlike Wolverhampton Wanderers who they think are not important. They don’t care that Wolves have spent the best part of 25 years trying to get back into the top division, they don’t care that Wolves are trying to run their club properly – keeping financially in the black, not paying their players stupid wages, investing in their stadium, training and sports science facilities. They don’t care about substantial contribution Wolves have made to the history of the game. Their attitude is: ‘let them get relegated, and why not dock them some points too for complaining, or fine them again for the cheek of their manager who seems to think he has the right to pick from his designated squad of 25 – they and all the other ‘small clubs’ should know their place, which they clearly believe should be temporary one in the top division.
I am sick of our club being treated with such contempt. It’s about time the FA are held to account for their actions. We are owed an explanation.

What a refreshing change it is to see these “FA Numpties” get it wrong AGAIN. It was obvious they would endorse this rediculous straight red since they recinded Cahill’s earlier this month from the same ref. They wouldn’t want Attwell to look the complete drongo that he is – would they? Attwell deserves a 3 match ban for being so dire & biased. We’ve been dealt the cards now so Mick & the boys will just have to get on with it – come on boys, do it for Nenad.

What did we think was going to happen !! im supprised milijas didnt get an extra game ban. its funny how our f,a can say its ok for someone to kick a fellow profesional from behind and say a three game ban is to much !! but a perfectly good tackle is worth the 3 games.
Arsenal, man u, are full off cheating diving cry babies, who get the full support of such antics from refs and f,a, this is nothing new. what supprises me that the fans from all the other clubs havent protested before now. it will never be a fair playing field untill somthing is done.

Right, so this “offence” is punished equally as badly as Wigan’s Alcaraz infamous spitting incident at Molineux several weeks back?
Let’s see what happens when a player of one of the big clubs makes such a challenge – though sadly I think we all already know the answer.

Atwell is a disgrace. He has been fast tracked by the FA so they cannot be seen NOT to back his decisions. This is the main reason why the red card stands. My post was not printed yesterday because I called Atwell and plo***r (as in Del Boy speak).

what else can be said about this moronic decision!! how can say rodwell get his red card overturned for more or less the same thing as milijas but he has to just accept this injustice!! should be able to take this further than the corrupt fa, not one man on that panel must know a single thing about football… could go on all night but will leave it there. #justiceformilijas

This ruling is so unfair, I am seething with frustration.
The general consensus, from what I’ve read and heard, is that it was a fair tackle. There is absolutely no sense of justice in refusing to overturn a poor refereeing decision just because they don’t think he made a grave error of judgment. Well, guess what, a grave error of judgment has been made if you start considering the consequences to the victim (Milijas) and his club instead of conveniently protecting the interests of officials.
What kind of precedent does that set? That if you get away with dangerous tackles and fouls (as Alex Song blatantly did), it’s okay because the referee had no problem with it at the time? And that if the referee makes a mistake, then the player will still get the full brunt of the punishment even if overwhelming evidence finds that i) he had no malicious intent, he made a fair tackle not worthy of a booking or at the most a yellow card.
FA, what happened to common sense and decency? Rooney kicks a player with malicious intent, gets his 3-match ban and just because you had the resources and clout to hire a team of expensive lawyers, the ban gets reduced to 2. How disproportionate is that to your treatment of Milijas, who gets sentenced for a crime he did not commit?

Just get with it. This is the EPL, in the Western World. Either roll with or find yourselves terminated before long. Play the game they way they play it. All is not black and white.

Ridiculous outcome but we shouldn’t expect anything different I’m afraid.
Interesting piece in The Telegraph yesterday by Stephen Hunt – suggesting that referees can and do make mistakes and should be given a chance. Additionally, he suggests that, because the game is so much quicker these days,we need younger refs that can keep up with the flow of the game.
I cannot disagree with any of what he says, and that is coming from one of our own, honest, professional footballers. Never hear any of the ‘big’ team players saying things like that!!
It is my opinion that referees should be made to ‘come up through the ranks’ of the lower leagues – earning ‘promotion’ just as teams do (not fast-tracked as certain refs have been in recent years). That way, we might actually see some consistency in the standards we see from game to game and official to official.
There should also be a ‘punishment’ made available to refs for this ‘crowding’ and ‘barging’ made by players in an attempt to sway judgement when trying to get opposition players sent off (anyone recall Pepe Reiner running a full 70 yards to suggest to the ref that Wardy should be sent off?). Much as we see in the game of rugby, the offending player and his team captain are called to approach the ref and ‘discuss’ the situation etc. This ‘bullying’, as that is what it is, must stop and the buck stops with the team captain and the manager / coach. They should be punished for not controlling their players if the ref feels threatened.
Rant over!!

I suppose we shouldnt be shocked the whole of the Premier League set up favours the elite clubs. The only way to fight back is to become a bigger club ourselves and so premier league survival is key along with the expansion of the ground. Lets focus our energy on sticking it up the FA and the anti midland club biased media. The bolton game is a biggy could define the whole season. Lets go 442 with Hunt in centre midfield, hammil out right and ebanks up front with super fletch.
Come on me babbies

My comments were not posted yesterday, possibly because they could be construed as defamatory. Well, here’s another attempt. The FA is totally fair, the referees are totally competent and the Arsenal players are a treat to play against. Now, who could possibly disagree with that?

The FA back Rooney for his Euro’s GBH and get his ban DOWN to 2 games but let stand our boys ban of 3 games for a GOOD tackle….. DISGRACE.

Disgraceful assauly by Song on Fletcher and Hunt (legs kicked from under him) only serves to highlight the difference between decisions on larger and smaller clubs, A red car was well deserved for Song. Yet anoither amateurish decision

@Dan the Gunner, your certainly not a gunner, your a spud in sheep’s clothing. You should try to be more objective, I have forensicly study the video, its a blatant red card. the referee made the correct decision.

Get a grip people, you are talking as if Wolves are the only team EVER to be treated badly by a ref or the FA… Yes they are both incompetent an they all stick together when the going gets tough, no team outside the top 5/6 will ever get fair treatment …end of!!

No 62, like me you aren’t worshipping at the alter of King Mick, so 80% of my posts are disregarded as they are fact based criticism, not wishful thinking; As you see it’s the same lot who get on again and again as they follow the script;
My point is why all this hoo-harr about Milijas, he is ostracised most of the time because he does not fit Mick’s player profile (huff and puff, no skill, yes men, good at golf),the one game he started, he got played a ball with no release options, lost it, from the subsequent corner a goal was scored as the defending was so bad; But Mick chose to publicly castigate Nenad, taking him off, then slating him post match; No mention of the poor tactical placings for defending a corner, which was MM’s department; No no Mick is loving this ‘us’ against world, he’s on to a winner, any poor performance or result, he will blame on either the refs, the ‘injuries’ or the anti-Mick part of the crowd; If he, in the unlikely case, wins a game, it’s all down to Mick’s genius; The case for Milijas, even if there was one, was scuppered by Hunt’s outrageous comments, comments I believe were sanctioned by MM; No matter what damage it does to WWFC, MM wants to cling on to his job by his last nostril hair; McCarthy OUT NOW

WHOOPS, apologies No 72,(Ciren Wolf) it was you I was backing as when I wrote 78, that was the number it was listed as at the time! No 62,grow up and get a life: The fact is Nenad would never have got a look-in if Jamie O hadn’t embarked on his annual 6 week holiday, just as the Christmas party season started!!!

What a joke, on the same day a Wigan player gets his red card overturned. I think the decision was political, the F.A. can’t have their referee’s decisions overturned on a regular basis can they?, or it smacks of incompetence. The Referee’s wear a badge on their sleeves that says respect!! Well as far as I am concerned they have got to earn that respect, and making decisions like the one against Milijas (not to mention the fact that the Arsenal players, were surrounding and intimidating the referee)earns this referee absolutely no respect whatsoever from me. If he thinks he’s a good referee then why didn’t he send Song off for those two atrocious tackles in a row (one from behind that completely took away Fletchers standing leg, and the other that went over the top of the ball into Hunt’s shin)? both tackles merited a sending off on their own! In short it was a home player and he bottled the decision!! Respect….give me a break.

Whoops again, my rant (POSTED 10.42),was for “the spirit of Cullis” who came from nowhere to 62, then 66 after edging out Ciren Wolf from 62 to 72 and now 76,then who knows where they will end up; It’s far more exciting than any WWFC game these days, keep it up E+S!

If that’s the case why didn’t your ex bully boy thugs, Viera, Pettit & Keown get sent off every week???
Didn’t hear anyone at the highbury library whinging about tackles then, including Wenger.
Don’t be a hypocrite now you have a team of dwarfs & little boys, that in your eyes nobody is allowed to tackle.
You can’t have all ways!!!

I will begin by saying I am not a Mick fan and just like Sir Billy from a few weeks ago believe a change is needed, but I have every sympathy in the way he conducts himself around refereeing decisions unlike the top 6 managers. This respect for the F.A. however is clearly unwarranted and not returned after such a disgraceful decison – the tackle was not high, late, two footed or over the top.
As for no 79 open your eyes and you may see the whole game and not just a blinkered view of it.

I wander if Hunt didn’t say what he did say about harassing the refs to get decisions then maybe Milijias would be free to play now? Are the FA punishing Wolves for what Hunty said? It wouldn’t surprise me

Jordan,
Couldn’t agree more, Anyone who saw (Coventry) Busst’s picture of his broken leg will applaud Referee Atwell. Hutton the”Animal” from Villa meant to take out Long and that Assault put him out of commission. Certainly these reckless challenges must be dealt with by the full force of the F.A. Even Mick started to have doubts before the hearing.

I know. I was critisised for sticking up for Hunt not diving for a penalty that should have been given anyway.
I’m proud of the way my team play the game, and absolutely hate it when (very occasionally) one of them lets us down by diving (hope you read this Stearman!) or otherwise cheating.

i was going to complain to the fa about their decision on milijas and tell then what bias bigots they are but they dont make it easy im having a bet that hunt dosent finish saturdays match if the ref has anything to do with it abit of revenge i mean because of his recent comments am i right in thinking the one time fa chairman is now making a mess of the POST OFFICE when the appeal was going through did anyone at wolves ask the fa to look at songs tackle on FLETCH AND HUNT if there was any justice hed be banned for three matches as well

You’ve just confirmed what most of us already knew, that you know nothing about the game.
To compare the Milijas tackle to busst’s injury is ridiculous, busst’s injury wasn’t even caused by a tackle you clown!!!
Still at least you have something in common with attwell I that you think you are always right, regardless.
Perhaps you & him can email nonsense to each other, that way you won’t offend anyone with half a brain.
