Mark Davies looks to spoil Wolves party

Former Wolves midfielder Mark Davies is ready to hand his old club a New Year’s Eve hangover this Saturday.

Willenhall-born Davies still has plenty of close friends at Molineux – including keeper Wayne Hennessey and winger Matt Jarvis – after coming through the Wolves academy before a £1m move to Bolton in January 2009.

But the 23-year-old, who made 35 appearances in gold and black after being part of the youth team with

Hennessey that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final in 2005, is putting friendships firmly to one side in the survival battle.

Second-bottom Bolton are four points and two places behind Wolves after crashing to their eighth home defeat in nine games in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Boxing Day.

“We know it’s a massive game on Saturday now against Wolves,” said Davies. “They’re in that group of teams just above us and if we can take points off them we can look at moving up the table.

“I know a whole load of their team and am still good friends with a lot of them. Though saying that, it’s safe to say friendships will be put on hold until after the final whistle.”

Davies is at a loss to explain Bolton’s poor form this season.

“It’s hard to put your finger on why we’re not picking up results,” he said.

“Things need to change and hopefully they will when we play Wolves.”
