Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths today stated his desire to remain north of the border at Hibernian.

The 21-year-old’s loan at Easter Road expires on January 9 and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said recently he’s ready to sell the Scotland B international, who was a £150,000 signing from Dundee last January but has never played a competitive game in his time at Molineux.

Griffiths, a boyhood Hibs fan, has scored four goals in nine SPL starts on loan, plus a further five appearances as a substitute.

And he would like to prolong his stay in Scotland. “To be honest, I never want to leave,” said Griffiths, who could face on-loan Wolves team-mate David Davis tonight when Hibs host Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premier League on an evening when Celtic clash with Rangers.

“Sometimes you wait two weeks for a reserve game down there.”

Griffiths admits he was surprised by McCarthy’s decision to sell him.

“I didn’t think that was coming at this stage but he’s made his mind up and I can’t do very much about that now,” he said.

“If I can extend my loan here until the end of the season I’ll be absolutely delighted.”

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon said: “We’re of the opinion we’d like to keep him on loan.

“I don’t think we’re in a position to (buy him).”
