Wolves’ Boxing Day match at Arsenal put back a day

Thursday 22nd December 2011, 11:00AM GMT.

Wolves’ scheduled Boxing Day trip to Arsenal was today put back because of the London tube strike.

The match will now go ahead 24 hours later on Tuesday December 27 with a 3pm kick-off.

The Gunners made the decision to switch the game today before it was confirmed that the strike would go ahead.

But, with the underground a particularly important method of travel for fans journeying to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal decided they had to make an early call.

An Arsenal club statement explained: “This decision has had to be made now, before the result of the legal challenge to the proposed industrial action is finally known.

“This is due to the preparation period needed to safely operate Emirates Stadium by all the relevant agencies.

“The paramount concern was the duty of care towards the Arsenal supporters, Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters, matchday employees, workers and everyone who was planning to attend the match on Boxing Day.

“In addition to the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Boxing Day, there would also have been no services operating on overground train services into London on this day.

“Also, normal parking restrictions close to the stadium would have still applied.

“This would have caused severe disruption, or at worst, inability for supporters or matchday employees and workers to get to Emirates Stadium.”

All tickets purchased for this match are still valid for the Tuesday.

The new date means Wolves will have had a full week’s preparation from their previous fixture, the 2-2 draw, against Norwich.

But it does clip a day from their recovery plans before they travel for the clash at Bolton on New Year’s Eve.

A Wolves club statement said: “The circumstances are out of the club’s control but Wolves would like to apologise for any inconvenience.”

We’ve put ourselves under a lot of strain by not getting anything from Stoke or Norwich recently. I’m sorry, but barring a January spending spree, which we all know won’t happen, we look doomed!

Yeah it’s going to be tough but I wouldn’t say were doomed yet. Maybe a drop into the religation zone will be good for the team? Might kick their backsides into gear.

We’ll get some players in over Jan’ and things will look a bit brighter. You never know we may get something from Arsenal or Chelsea! but I think a must win from Bolton needs to be minimum requirments!

Staffs Wolf, sadly I have to agree but what is more disturbing is the small matter of our manager! It is he who lacks the required experience in the premiership to take us forward. He had one appalling season at the helm at Sunderland and he has had 2.5 seasons more, since then. That is why he won’t sign any players worth having, in this window. None want to play for him.
Personally, I don’t think it’s so much new players (yes we do need some) but a new manager we need. This one clearly cannot motivate the players he has. He constantly has to direct them during the course of a match, why, I wonder is that? The other night Paul Lambert seemed to let his players play. The subtle difference, probably being that the eleven who play for Lambert all knew what they were supposed to do. Our eleven, who ever they are at any given time, never do.
    Amen

Some stupid comments on here yet again. Of course we will be making signings. Moxey and Mad Mick have both said it. We don’t get linked with players like Onouha, Diame, Collins, Frimmpong and Jones for no reason. Funds will be limited though and wages, so we have to be realistic!
In the meantime with injuries and what is currently at our disposal, I would be tempted to go with this line up when Foley is matchfit:-

Hennessey Foley Zubar Berra Ward Hammill Henry Milijas Guerdioura Jarvis Fletcher

To read some of the comments on here you would think we were 10 pts adrift at the bottom of the league. You can still get 7/4 on us to be relegated so stop typing and get betting if you think we’re going down.

Topnumpty – strange because what I saw after on the TV (I don’t actually spend the match watching the managers) it was the other way round – still whichever way the same old agenda gets trotted out.

Finchy – last year I seem to remember that being just above the relegation zone and falling in was the worst scenario according to Mick. He proved right – 3 minutes from the end of the season turned out to be a very bad time to fall into the bottom 3 for Blues!

PS Pete – is the spell-checker in the website or on your browser? Have you got some southern software spending too much time away?

The problem we face now is the run of difficult home fixtures between the New Year and May. Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton,Villa, Tesco Town will all prove to be very difficult games to win or even draw. Only Bolton and Blackburn look to be ‘winnable’. We may pay the price for wasting home points so far against what appear to be on paper ‘easier’ games. For example, not winning any of the games against the promoted clubs. With our away form proving to be poor this spells a recipe for disaster. I fear the worst. I can’t see beyond 33/34 points. Hope i’m wrong. Hopelessley wrong. Still, on we go…

the difference with us and the newly promoted teams is that they play expressive football the way we played when we came up but then the other clubs were better than most today and thats why they;ve got more points but come the second half of the season they will get caught out and start to fall back down towards the bottom and if we keep the work ethic we should be ok. With the news about Jamie O’Hara the January window takes on even more importance, be it with signings or loans. Maybe the statement from the board about under achievement is a realisation that two summer signings to improve a team that were three minutes away from The Championship wasn’t enough.

Rebuilding the Stadium, redeveloping the training ground and improving the team.
Keeping all three balls in the air was always going to be a challenge and our position at halfway is worrying.
Over to you three Ms !

Moxey’s statement about underachieving was no more than a patronising nod in the direction of the unhappy fans. It is meaningless and of no importance. When he signs the cheques for several quality new players then maybe he will have credibility. All the stuff about stands and training grounds is pointless fluff which does nothing to help make the step up in skill and quality that is needed across the club.

I mean no malice to the lad just signed from Iceland, ( although we don’t know which store or department he was in ), but £200K says absolutely nothing other than it’s a gamble. I think that those hoping for well known names joining in January will be very disappointed. After all, why would they come, even if the money was there? The newly promoted clubs have done well and would probably all be happier destinations than coming to Wolverhampton for a relegation dogfight. From what I’ve seen recently there is little to be optimistic about. The manager may have his weaknesses but the players have to stand up too and the board must accept that they have failed pretty miserably in improving the club. The Blackburn “fans” recently complained of lack of transparency at their club. Is it really any different at Molineux? No. The people who should be speaking out are silent, as ever. Mick Mc Carthy is rightly carrying the can for poor on-field decisions but Moxey and Morgan have to accept that a lot of the problems are due to very poor management at higher level in failing to address the football issues the club faces. As I said above, off the pitch it’s all just meaningless fluff.

The very best of luck to the lads at Arsenal. Like most fans, I’m expecting us to collect yet another proper slapping, much as it pains me to admit it. Still, I’ll cling to hope for every passing minute that it remains 0-0.

One of these days we’ll do the Gooners in their own backyard if only because The Law of Averages says so -and I honestly can’t think of another Christmas present I’d rather have.

I went to the Man City v Stoke game, Jones was the player to come off that pitch weighing more than when he started. He is that lazy.

Honestly wouldnt touch him with a barge pole.

Being a wolves fan is hard but being a Stoke fan? wow!! played 60 mins with 6 centre halfs and didnt even manage to get 1 shot either on target or off.

Things aint that bad, i would rather get relegated trying to play football than finish mid table playing that rubbish
