Wolves manager Mick McCarthy today vowed to keep faith with below-par striker Kevin Doyle.
The Republic of Ireland international has suffered a first dip in performance since his £6.5million move from Reading two-and-a-half years ago.
Doyle hasn’t scored in six games and has netted just twice in 15 Premier League matches this season, after nine in 2009-10 and five last season.
His luck was summed up in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Stoke, when he scored an own goal trying to block Robert Huth’s free-kick.
But, when he was asked before tonight’s home game against Norwich if he would be keeping faith with Doyle, McCarthy said: “Yes and I have done. Of course we hope it turns for him.
“We haven’t created a lot of chances for him. But he’s always whole-hearted. I don’t get any problems from Doyle – he’s low maintenance.
“He cracks on with his work, but like anyone, if what you’re supposed to be doing isn’t happening for you, I’m sure it’s frustrating, but he’s fully aware of it.
“He just needs something to run for him.”
