Wolves’ Matt Jarvis believes no fear will be the key to an England recall

Wolves winger Matt Jarvis is playing with no fears as he aims to gatecrash England’s Euro 2012 squad.

Jarvis has come alive again in the last few games after keeping things simple and is relishing tomorrow’s clash against Stoke.

And the 25-year-old revealed a “back-to-basics” approach from manager Mick McCarthy has worked wonders.

He said: “We spoke about things and decided to go back to doing what I do best, which is getting the ball wide, one-on-one against the full-back and supplying crosses and shots.

“It was a question of making things simple and getting back to basics and hopefully that’s what I’m doing. It’s been nice to get out there, play with no fear and have some joy.”

Jarvis believes a loss of form earlier this season partly came about from trying different tactics which diverted him from his strengths.

He said: “We were trying different tactics, only they weren’t coming off. We spoke about cutting inside more and linking up that way and that’s something I need – and have been trying – to improve on.

“But I also must still do what I’m about – which is getting wide, taking people on and getting crosses in.

“It’s hard going through a difficult time for the team and trying to be the positive, no-fear-type player and keep producing that.

“But in the last few games I have been back at it and I want to keep improving.”

Building on his solitary England cap, which came as a substitute against Ghana in March, is one of Jarvis’ goals.

He said: “That’s the aim – I want to be playing for my country so I want more. It was a fantastic honour to play the last 25 minutes and I’m working extremely hard to get back in the squad.

“There are fantastic players in my position so it will be hard, but I am working extremely hard to get a sniff.”
