Wolves wait on David Edwards injury
Monday 12th December 2011, 10:30AM GMT.
Wolves today faced an anxious wait over in-form midfielder David Edwards.
The Wales international came off after just 32 minutes of Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Manchester United with a sore groin.
Edwards’ early withdrawal saw Wolves switch tactics from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 with the introduction of Nenad Milijas and Kevin Doyle switching to wide right, where Edwards had been playing.
Wolves will be keeping their fingers crossed the damage isn’t serious as Edwards has been in fine form since missing seven months with a serious back injury.
Top scorer Steven Fletcher, who scored his sixth goal of the season at Old Trafford, is thought to be a more minor casualty after being withdrawn for the last 20 minutes with a tight calf.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: “We lost Edwards to a tight groin and Fletcher was just stretching his calf a little bit.
“We need Fletcher fit and we weren’t going to get four goals to win the game so I thought it was wise to take him off.
“Fletcher’s been terrific – and prolific – when he’s been fit. That’s why I took him off because I need him to be prolific in the next two games as well.”
McCarthy is also hoping £7million club-record signing Fletcher can continue being his ‘silent assassin.’
Fletcher’s record now stands at 16 goals in just 23 Premier League starts since joining Wolves.
The Wolves boss said: “It’s now 16 goals in 23 starts which is pretty good going by anyone’s standards.
“Maybe that’s something to do with him and his personality because he doesn’t court publicity. ”
McCarthy admits Wolves now need to get points from their next two home games.
He said: “Now we’ve got Stoke and Norwich at home which we know are two big games and probably have more significance to our season than Saturday.”

Hope Fletcher is fit we need him. Edwards seems injury prone to put it mildly. Hardly what I would call in-form though. Runs around and works hard with little end result. Unfortunately it seems to me that is MM’s game plan. Hoof it and run after it. Need max points desperately against Stoke and Norwich but after comparing there performances to ours over the weekend we could be in big trouble. Ah well he’s hoping christmas comes early for us. A new manager would be nice as well.

Blimey… Another in form player…
Shouldn’t we be at the top of the league with all these ‘in form’ players we have?
Luckily the ‘in form’ Karl Henry was back on Saturday but although he had an abysmal game, he was still ‘in form’ prior to the match.
If this is in form then I would hate to see an out of sorts wolves team ..

Was at Old Trafford, a great experience.
Wolves went for it, Edwards and OHara and bombing forward and getting caught wrong side when we attacked leaving us wide open.
Fair enough, we had a go, but i wouldnt read too much into it in relation to any other game.
Great day, hopefully we will have another crack next year.

Thats an incredible record. Is there any player outside the top four with a better goals to game ratio?

Ha! I was thinking exactly the same thing! In order to be “in form” don’t you have to have an extensive run of peak performances? Now, I’m no expert statistician but I’m quite sure our recent results don’t show anybody scoring 9 out of 10 week in, week out…

I was at old trafford saturday and it has to be said the supporters were first class.
Lets keep the vocal SUPPORT up for the rest of the season and even more so in these next few games. We can break away from the bottom 3
come on you wolves

Nice to see that Henry can walk back into a winning team no questions asked when everyone else would have to wait.
I am concerned that every game we are getting these knocks and niggles yet despite appearing to have a good depth in our squad we are struggling to handle it despite being reasonably injury free compared to some other teams in the league. Notably up front. We have 3 decent strikers yes but all it will take is 1 one them to get injured (and injured they have been) and all of a sudden were forced into a 451 situation or be left with no cover on the bench. Ward is in too good a form to be taken out of our defence so that isn’t an option. We need a 4th striker and we’ve had to resort to using one a number of times already so why oh why did we let Vokes go out on loan.

Mick, once again your player choice is under question. Why move Doyle to the right wing spot when you have Hamill, who should be playing anyway. It means you tell the team to play one way and then, after 30mins.alter everything round and tell them to play another way.I thought Doyle is supposed to be a striker.Strikers do not usually play right wing do they?Once again your incompetence comes to the front.Do something competant for once Mick and pack your bags.

If Edwards is ‘in form’ then I dread to think what he would be like out of form!

16 goals in 23 starts is simply phenomenal at this level. Makes you wonder how he didn’t get a look-in at times, last year -but still returned to save Mick’s bacon, late on.
Of course, a striker’s only as good as the service he receives. So, let’s applaud the wide men, too.
KEEP BAGGING ‘EM, FLETCH!

I am afraid that again we have the manager trying to build a team around Edwards, this has to be wrong, he has been plagued with injury and when he has played subbed or dropped, we are in a fight for points and we still do not have a settled midfield, this is why the defence is under so much pressure and the attackers when he plays them are not getting the service required.
I know there is again the debate about Henry, this is entirely due to McCarthy with his stupidity with this player.
To the fans who think he is doing a good job, if you look at him in most matches he jogs along chasing the play after it has gone past him, with no urgency, some of his yellow cards have been collected when trying to redeem himself.
It is the Managers fault for putting him on the pedestal, and not having the guts to admit he is wrong.
At least so far he hasn’t commented on how well he has played.
As far as I am concerned on current form he is not worth his place.

I wish Big Mick would learn not to allow himself to be quoted in the press that “The next two games are the ones we’re focusing on” or “we’ve had tough games at wherever but our next two games are against so-and-so and thingy-ma-jig… so we’ll be looking to get 6 points” – if i was an opposition coach i’d use that to stoke (no pun intended) my players up…. “Read this lads… this guy thinks your gonna be a push over!!”… “He’s banking on 3 points against you!!” – I know what affect that’d have on me.

Man Utd would have easily beaten most teams in that form but the defence and midfield – with the exception of Jarvis, who was back to his best – were not at the races. Doyle was also non-existent! Let’s put things into perspective though. Man Utd’s team cost £170m and ours £30m.
Team for Saturday should be:-
Hennessey Zubar Johnson Berra Ward Hammill Henry Milijas O’Hara Jarvis Fletcher

in form ….?????

Even if both players had been injury free for all of the match it would have been highly unlikely that we would have got anything out of the game. Getting them off the pitch as quickly as possible was the sensible decision.
The priority in my view was to make sure as many of our squad are fit to face the next two games. Personnally I would not have critisised McCarthy had he picked a second string team as he did a couple of seasons ago.
I think it’s far more important this season for Wolves to beat teams who are not in the top six. Last season we failed to beat a number of relegation rivals and consequently made our own task of survival harder than it should have been. We cannot afford to repeat that again.

If you read the article its the E&S claiming Edwards is ‘in form’ not MM.
Don’t worry about the facts getting in the way of your ritual Mick bashing – carry on Numpties dig in!!

Dave ‘sicknote’ Edwards- he will newver rech his full potential as he is obviously made of glass!!
We desperately need 6 points out of 6 now… That would put us in a good position going into Christmas…

I was there on Saturday Henry had a shocker,Doyle was anonymous.Jarvis is looking like the player from last season,he just needs to believe in himself more.Fletcher is starting to look a class act.We shouldn’t get to down about the result, sometimes you have to accept we are second best and the lads could not be faulted for effort. We need to make a centre half a priority in January and replace Berra he is Championship standard at best,it is only a matter of time before he concedes a penalty by wrestling someone to the ground at a corner,he isn’t even subtle about it!

No one on here mentioned MM. The Inform was directed at Dave Edwards and evryone else that Tim Nash regularly describes as ‘in form’.
I think yet again, its your love in with Mad Mick that is prejudice rather than anyone else on here.

Yep, to be entirely fair and dandy, nobody mentioned Mick in this case, rather the sudden outbreak of “in form” players that we seem to be enjoying at the moment. Jarvis, I notice, is in “blistering form” right now. Whoever knew?

Love the way mad mick tried to pretend he was being positive!
The reality – COULDN’T drop fletch WON’T drop doyle. Everyone knows we ( and he normally) can’t go to ot 442. No bottle from the manager to make the right decisions and leave one of the untouchables out. Result 442 which he knows is daft and 2-0 down rapid.

Hammill Right side, simple. The boy runs at defenders which they hate, look what he did against Sunderland, so didn’t why Mick didn’t bring him on?? beats me!

Edwards will never be good enough for the PL but at least he scores the odd one or two now and again. Thats more than Ebanks-blake can do. He huffs and puffs – bless his cotton socks – but cant trap a cement bag. “Pass” isnt in even in his vocabulary.
Surely Vokes can do a better job.

ha ha….numpties
*16 sir billy
just shows your lack of undestanding!
MM has created a team of untouchables…these players believee the hype that mad mick has spun around them.
1. Ward – bought as a striker, played as a winger, now a left back – never dropped after poor performances and now shockingly looks average…how bad are the other players then?
2. Doyle – Mr invincible – super shift, never gets the appreciation he deserves – OMG £6mil for a average work horse bought as a striker – How many goals has he scored?
3. Henry – hahaha first name on the sheet, HELLO – mad mick is now questioning his own sanity!
4. Johnson – Captain courageous, never misses a game??? Never defends well more like – £6 to £7 mill for Johnson, blues are laffing all the way to the bank – Oh but Johnson blames the fans for the teams demise!!!!
5. Ohara – Midfield dynamo with flare – the only one I will hang judgement on because of the illness of his child – BUT should he be playing then?
6. Berra – Quality centre half with pace…?? I think best suited as rugby player or wrestler – slower than a tugboat turning, but still not as slow as Johnson and £3mil cheaper
7. Hunt – the fiery winger we have been missing – I’m sorry but is he still missing, I haven’t seen him for the last few games – was in the team though
8. Edwards – box to box midfielder with an eye for a goal….erm – please visit specsavers
9. Elokobi – left back….left back at the gym to build himself up…what is all that about?
10. Mouyokolo – Centre half footballing defender….that good he has gone after 2 games…
Mad Mick has wasted so much money and knocked the confidence out of the quality players that deserve a run or have deserved a run – Milijas, Jarvis, Hammill, Fletcher, Blake, Guediourra – What have these guys gotta do to get a game?
MM time to go…..please

#23 Yes its simple isn’t it. Play Hammill. He changed the complexion of the Sunderland game by taking on defenders and crossing the ball. Its not exactly rocket science to work out that you keep in form players in. (My definition of in form not Tim’s or MMs.) But to MM it is complex. First, he has to move certain favourites around to make sure they get a game. Then he has to figure out how to put a positive spin on his formation (and I use this word loosely) even though it is not. Hammill and Vokes and a few of the other young academy players will be leaving soon. Why should they stay? They never get the chance to show what they can do – but if they do they are then dropped and never seen again. Their perecption must be one of: MM has certain names on the team sheet before anyone else is picked. So why bother? Surely, the hierarchy can see that this manager is the REAL numpty!

i would wait all season ,i dont think he offers anything special just work rate , be better on the bench and used if someone gets injured … as for tinkering mm why doesnt he try hunt in central midfield instead of king henry , a player who can run tackle and harrass other teams ??? thoughts anyone ….
