Wolves winger Matt Jarvis challenged to keep Stephen Hunt out of the side

Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has been challenged to wow Chelsea on his return to the team – and keep Stephen Hunt out of the side.

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed the England international will return to the starting line-up for the first time in three games at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, after being dropped after the 2-2 draw against Swansea.

Jarvis has struggled to emulate the form that elevated him to his first England cap and earned him both the supporters’ player of the year and players’ Player of the Year awards last season.

But McCarthy has urged the 25-year-old to make the most of his chance with Hunt forced to sit it out after accumulating five bookings.

The Wolves boss said: “He’s had almost five brilliant seasons with us but he’s just been out of the team for a couple of weeks.

“He’s back in it tomorrow and it’s up to him to stay in there. Matt Jarvis is a very, very good player.

“Last season he was our talisman, our best player, and, arguably, has been for a number of seasons. Just like teams, it doesn’t always happen for players.

“But he’s a good, strong character and I have no worries about him, he’ll be fine. We’ve got to see Jarvo on good form, and it might be tomorrow.

“There’s an opportunity for Jarvo. If Hunt didn’t want to give anyone an opportunity, he shouldn’t have got five bookings.”
