Wolves boss Mick McCarthy outlines bid to rough up ‘vulnerable’ Chelsea

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has outlined his bid to bloody the nose of Chelsea – but admits he might have to ‘park the bus.’
Pundits claim Chelsea are at their most vulnerable for several years after last night’s 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League made it four losses in seven for the Blues.
Chelsea have suffered back-to-back home defeats for the first time since 2001-02 after losing to Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League.
It is a run that has heaped pressure on new boss Andre Villas-Boas and intensified Saturday’s clash with Wolves, who masterminded a shock 1-0 win against the then-champions at Molineux last January.
And, while being cautious, McCarthy insists it’s his intention to win the game.
He said: “We tried to do it at Manchester City, where we produced a great performance.
“We had a really good performance against Liverpool away and we played well at Chelsea last season, so I never do anything other than want to take points off these top teams or bloody their noses.
“It’s a challenge every single time and I’d love to beat them. We’ll set out to try to beat them.”
But McCarthy also stressed Wolves cannot afford to be gung-ho.
He said: “I always think back to when Jose Mourinho accused who was it – Tottenham? – of parking the bus in front of their goal.
“Well, I am not saying we’re going to do that, but sometimes you have to do that. Liverpool played some great stuff against Chelsea on Sunday but they defended and they played on the counter-attack.
“But there’s nothing wrong with that – it’s all about points and results. That’s what counts. You’ve got to try to stop them, because they’ve got millions and millions of pounds worth of talent.
“If we go to Chelsea and take them on player for player and match them up, it’s odds-on we’re likely going to get beat.”
