Mick McCarthy has little sympathy for Chelsea
Wednesday 23rd November 2011, 1:25PM GMT.
Boss Mick McCarthy today insisted he has no sympathy for Chelsea – because his Wolves team need any advantage they can at Stamford Bridge this Saturday.
McCarthy will be an interested observer tonight as Chelsea take on Bayer Leverkusen in Germany in the Champions League.
The game will be Andre Villas-Boas’ side’s second out of four in the space of nine days.
Despite just a few months in the job, Villas-Boas is said to be under increasing pressure after successive home defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool.
But McCarthy won’t be sending sympathy and flowers down the M1.
“I don’t know which players they will play tonight but I imagine they’ll have plenty of options in their squad,” said McCarthy. “They’ve also got the experience to accommodate it. I’ll turn that round – if I was the manager of Chelsea, I’d be delighted to be playing in the Champions League and playing Wolves in the Premier League and then playing in the Carling Cup quarter-final.”
