Antolin Alcaraz sorry for Wolves spitting incident

Wigan captain Antolin Alcaraz today said sorry to Wolves defender Richard Stearman for spitting at him.

The Paraguay international was banned for three games for spitting at Stearman towards the end of the Latics’ 3-1 defeat at Molineux on Sunday and accepted a misconduct charge from the FA.

A statement from Alcaraz said: “I would like to apologise for my actions.

“Unfortunately, my spit, instead of finding the ground, regrettably struck Richard Steadman in the chest, and I apologise to him for this.

“I was having a confrontation with Christophe Berra, and, in wanting to show my frustration, my intention was to spit on the ground beside him, which was my way of answering the verbal abuse I was receiving. I reacted wrongly after being provoked but I never meant to spit on an opposing player.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Foley today delivered a boost to Wolves by saying he should return to full training in two weeks.

The Ireland international underwent an ankle operation on October 18 and is on track to return within the four to six-week prognosis.

“My aim is to be back training within a couple of weeks and the international break has come at a good time,” said Foley.

“After that it’s all about getting my fitness up.

“My aim has always been four to six weeks and we’re just over three weeks now.”

My 8 year old always says “I didn’t mean it” when she’s asked to apologise for slapping her sister. I hope she’ll grow up one day and accept responsibilty for her actions.

A pathetic apology, if indeed you can class it as an apology. Seems to be more like a pathetic excuse.

Absolutely shockin and pathetic attempt at an apology. On the plus side this disgusting animal will be relegated from the Premier League when this season is over. He deserves a longer ban not 3 games. If i spat on someone in the street i’d be arrested.

So, he has finally admitted what he did was an ‘accident’ as it was actually aimed at Berra. All should be forgiven then?

Footballers are role models, is what we hear about for our children! Then let’s treat him how people who abuse that role and ban him for 6 games for now admitting it was intended for the floor by Berra. That shows his intent in the first place was to spit at someone!

Obviously he has never been on the receiving end of this vile act at any point in his career! I got untold verbals over the years playing in all manor of teams at different levels, but I never retaliated once, let alone spit at someone!

Having read the Paraguayan’s reported comments, I personally accept his explanation – he could well have spat to the side of the player who he was arguing with, Berra and in the red haze he wasn’t minded to clear the huddle of players on either side of Berra.
The camera angle shown on MOTD indicates he did not spit directly ahead but to the side.
Stearman was walking forwards. Had he not been walking forwards the offending material may have flown harmlessly to the ground.
Whats more, I back McCarthy all the way.

That is the most absurd ,contrived, lie that I have heard in alredy murky Premier league season.Look at the film – he did not spit at the floor, he looked and spat at a wolves player. If the Premier League were not such a bunch of self-serving, toothless ,wasters, they would double the ban for this vile disgrace of a player.Come to think about it , what if any role did the PFA play in this? Surely they should take the side of the abused player? Dont bet on it! I personally do not think they want to de-rail the gravy train any more than the Premier League do. I just hope that the supposed “powers that be” remember that this is all being avidly watched and absorbed by impressionable youngsters.

I was playing Secret Letter on the Newhampton quiz machine at the weekend and I missed out on the £10 jackpot. In my anger, I attempted to kick the floor, but misjudged the arc of my foot and hoofed a massive hole in the quiz machine instead. Then I attempted to punch the wall to further relieve myself of frustration, but unfortunately accidentally punched the landlord in the face, as he had come over to investigate the disturbance. To make matters worse, I then entered into a struggle to lift him back to his feet to apologise to him, and this struggle was taken to be “resisting arrest” by the police officers who happened to be passing by the premises. So I’d like to apologise to everybody involved. Case closed.

Vile, if he thinks that kind of behaviour is ok then it doesn’t say much about him as a person, and that pathetic apology doesn’t wash either.
