Karl Henry opens heart for first time on sarcastic cheers at Wolves
Thursday 10th November 2011, 10:30AM GMT.
Wolves midfielder Karl Henry today opened his heart for the first time since being sarcastically cheered to reveal it was his biggest disappointment in football.
Henry was so upset with the reaction at his withdrawal during the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle that he has not spoken publicly until now.
But the 28-year-old has now made his peace with the fans, who he described as “fantastic.”
Some supporters claimed they were criticising manager Mick McCarthy for substituting a ‘favourite,’ although the players didn’t see it that way and captain Roger Johnson called the treatment of Henry “a disgrace.”
But the Wolverhampton-born midfielder has forgiven the culprits.
He said: “It probably was my most disappointing time in footbal. It’s not a nice feeling to be cheered off ironically or be booed by your own fans. I did have a great reception on Sunday. Our fans are fantastic.”

‘Our fans are fantastic’ – sorry have to correct you. Most of our fans are fantastic, the rest are idiots spending the majority of their time sprouting negativity and discourse throughout the team. I’m expecting a barrage of these type of comments below. Unity and support is the only way we will grow as a club and a team.

I did think you where going thru a dip in form but would never had booed you. You always give your all, and of late have been on top form. The boo boys will always be on someones back, before you it was s ward. You both shut the boo boys up now. Keep it mate your a top man.

Karl, as one of our own we want you to succeed, we want to be chanting your name week in week out.. but want we dont want is you playing safe week after week and not using the talent you have.
Use your run into the box against Wigan as a starting point and improve on this, i dont want you running back to our defenders collect a 5 yard pass and give it him straight back and put him under pressure, what i dont want to see is you standing in space when opposition midfielders run past you and leave you for dead and you hold your hands up saying not my fault.
Be aware of the space around you and use it to our advantage, to many times you get the ball and because you dont realise the time you have you make silly decisions.. get the simple things right and you will be loved again as you do have the talent !!

That was so wrong and so undeserved. Henry is the midfield anchor. Without the ball, he is our best player, regaining possession more often than all his midfield colleagues combined. If we are playing like Brazil, Henry is not needed. But we don’t and we won’t. He is crucial to the balance. And, sorry to suggest it, probably a far more inspiring captain than RJ. If you get the chance to chat to the players, ask them who is first pick in 5-a-sides. The answer is Karl Henry.
By the way, if you ask them who is the most skillful player, most will answer Steven Fletcher. With him back, we will consolidate in this League.
All three Ms are doing superb jobs. How they tolerate the criticism and, even, abuse is beyond me.

People just want to see him be more positive on the ball, he has done that the last few games, proven he has the ability and created a goal.

Karl your a true professional. Johnson should watch and learn!!

Karl, pick up on where you left off against Wigan and the fans will be right behind you.

I find this love-in between McCarthy/Henry and the Wolves fans all a bit distasteful and hollow, when in reality the players and managers are probably hacked off with the grief they’ve been getting.
I don’t like Roger Johnson as a person from what little I know of him through the media, but at least he has the cajones to come out and say what he really thinks.

Make a few more forward runs with the ball like you did to get into the penalty area against wigan and then everyone will be behind you. Lets build on the win against wigan and push forward with every opportunity.

Time to say it again and again…
I was one of those that booooed, but it was because the substitution was taking an age. We didn’t even know who was coming off….

I think most the stadium cheered that day! Not because of Henry’s lack of form, but because MM took off one of his favourites for the 1st time in a very long time! I’m sorry, but if players are out of form, changes need to be made. The same game, Ohara needed to be taken off too….. Both could not pass 5 yards! MM could of helped matters by playing players on merit rather than favourites. After this event Henry’s form has picked up again and is one of our best players with ward. Hopefully the win will kick start our season!
C’mon the wolves!

Correction – I did not booo, I cheered (important difference!)

Fully appreciating the brilliant situation we are in – third year in the Premiership and back from almost extinction not that long ago!
Most fans will settle for a team that works hard, battles and fights for everything and fails gloriously. Its when we spend lots of time either going sideways and backwards – or worse still banging the ball forward almost aimlessly that fans become unsettled and restless.
For me the way forward is to work even harder – battle more and earn the right to play with the wingers and counter attacking we would love to see again.
One suggestion to the 3M’s – instead of a holding mid-fielder which does not seem to support our back four, why would we not look at trying to play with a sweeper behind the back four to plug the holes that we seem to have??

I think that the cheering was aimed at McCarthy tbh, Henry was having a ‘mare – which happens to all players. It wasn’t aimed at Karl, but his boss who should have taken him off earlier.
Whatever the case, it is not right to get on the players/managements back like this. Even though the cries of derision are because of passion for the club, and not as some might think fickleness. It’s just frustration bubbling over.
I am sorry Karl in my mind no player should be booed, jeered or sarcastically clapped regardless and I am not surprised with how you felt.
At times like this the players need to hear, no matter what, that the fans are behind them. But on the whole it is only a minority of fans that have taken up to doing this and all fans are being tarred with the same brush.
Come on get behind the players.

I remember a time in the not so long ago when all Wolves fans wanted was a team “that gave their all”.
A local lad that sweats blood and never moans getting this sort of treatment is a reflection of how far modern day football and modern day fans have sunk.

I own up to being one of the ‘culprits’ who cheered when Henry was substituted. We were two nil down at the time and changes needed to be made. Henry was having a very poor game and had either lost possession or given the ball away on several occasions. Newcastle’s second goal came directly from one of Henry’s misplaced passes. What is it about this player ? If it had been anyone else it would have gone without a mention. I remember it happening to Mark Kennedy, Steve Corica, Stephen Ward and many other players. These cheers were from all round Molineux and not just a small section. We gave Newcastle too much space that day and when changes were made we looked a much better team and were unlucky to lose 2-1. Can thank Halsey for that.
Will the players ever learn? As stated many times here and before. The ironic cheers were aimed at McCarthy for daring to substitute one of his favourites. Definitely not at Henry. It was so obvious. And on the point of McCarthy’s team selections, Wolves have 8 ever presents this season, more than any other Premiership club. We must be doing well.
And finally regarding the masterstroke substitutions against Swansea. If the right team was picked in the first place then perhaps those substitutions may not have been necessary.

I thought Karl Henry was excellent on Sunday, great surging run that made the vital second goal.I heard the ironic cheering in the Billy Wright that afternoon from people in the Billy Wright upper, not just the South Bank.It was wrong but it does happen in professional football when fans get frustrated at a poor run of results.I have also heard lots of applause and praise for Henry’s crunching tackles and defensive covering in the last few years.Time to move on and build on the positives.
I love Karl Henry, and it hurts me that he was inevitably is so upset by it.
Part of this whole attitude from some fans is that as Moxey stated, we were looking to establish ourselves as a team fighting nearer to 10th. For a team in its 3rd season in the prem, it was devastating to see our midfield totally outplayed by a newly promoted team. Expectation has / had increased. Part of the problem is that midfielders at this level need to be multi-talented in attack & defence. Fans are starting to accept its gonna be a relegation battle again.

staffsWOLF suggestion of a sweeper behind the back four would appear to be a good one. If you watch playbacks of the goals which we let in, many could have been prevented by the use of a sweeper. How many times have we seen runners coming from deep to latch onto a through ball beyond our back four and not being tracked by the midfielders. The use of a sweeper would help prevent this. The added benefit of a sweeper is that he can see how the back four are setting themselves up ahead of him and can shout out instructions if they are being pulled out of position, such as fullbacks moving too far towards the preserve of the centrebacks thus giving the wingers too much room. The use of a sweeper was very prevalent in the top Italian sides of the 70s and although I would not want Wolves to go back to the ultra cautious tactics adopted by many of those teams, a sweeper in the current Wolves team should reduce the goals against total.

karl has changed from a negative player to a positive player simply by passing the ball forward instead of backwards simples

Have to agree with 10. This was incorrectly reported at the time but is now old news.
Now Karl Henry is pressed to comment on it, long after the event, and a couple of sentences makes a headline.
And all of a sudden, some of the stupid sniping between supporters, which we were all enjoying some respite from following the Wigan game, is alive and kicking again.
Call me a cynic, but I think this is a case of ‘Its a slow news day, lets try and cook up a story and some comment’.

Let’s deal with the facts
1- No fans booed it was ironic cheers that Mick had substituted one of his favourite and first name on the team sheet
2- Why did Mick not take him off at half time? He knew what the reaction would be and in my opinion Mick hung Henry out to dry when he took him off.

Well Karl, you will always have ‘one’ supporter ,thats ‘me’,you’ve always been one if not my favourite players ,since you arrived for a BARGIN £110,000, how much would you be worth now at todays ‘over-inflated prices? If theres one thing i like to see in our club, thats ‘local lads’playing in the first team. I dont often agree with MM but i fully agree with him ,that you would be one of the ‘first’ names on my team sheet, if you was fit and in form to play. Some supporters only like to comment on the ‘negative’ side to your game, where most see all the dirty/grubby parts you get through, always covering other players if they go forward,your the one who’s always there to take their position. One of your main strengths is breaking down the oppositions play, getting a tackle in here or a toe there,your one-touch passing is also very good in tight play. Yes perhaps you could do more ‘forward’ runs/passes, like you did on Sunday,that was a great run into the box and a good pass for the goal, but as ive said your mostly to busy doing the ‘ugly’ parts of the game,which the ‘flair players’ dont like doing, chasing all over the pitch, and covering your team mates when they go on a run forward. But i cant see any other player in our squad who would/could do your job, as well as you do Karl,to replace you would cost us £5-10m ‘imo’. So keep your head up and just keep doing what you do best for your team mates, and more importantly for ‘Yourself Karl’.UTW;

With Karl Henry in the team, Wolves have been playing with 10 men for a long time. The frustration was aimed at McCarthy not Henry during that Swansea game because Karl Henry walks into the Wolves team and play 90 mins regardless of form.
Henry at his best closes players down, tackles, and lays the ball off. He hasn’t been doing for for ages. Midfielders in the premier league should offer more than that anyway, but Henry hasn’t been doing ANYTHING for a long time. He hasn’t scored a goal for years, that is shocking for a midfielder!

35 Longwalk – The thing is, work is quite a bit different to football, first off, in most peoples jobs, form doesnt come into it. Also in your job, if you had customers spouting disgusting abuse at you, whether you were doing a good job or not, do you really think it would be accepted. Ive seen customers in shopsabus the staff with allot nicer words than what was used at Molineux, and those customers have been thrown out the store.
and to answer your question, yes Fergie does wait. He waited for Rooney to refind his form at the start of last season, when he couldnt score at all.
I find it disgusting that your proud of sarcastically cheering our own players. Do you really think thats going to help our players in the slightest.

Karl is important player for us. He plays to a similar role that ‘Dietmar Hamann’ played for Liverpool. He’s was key for Liverpool when they played well and was not always credited for his work. Well done Karl! keep up the good Work!

The problem with this article is that it’s ressurecting all the predujiced views about Henry and the ironic cheering/booing incident.
Karl Henry has been a great signing and continues to be an important member of the squad. He may have from time to time have a bad game, but that applies to all players. Despite some supporters who post comments on this site to the contrary, Wolves do not have another player to compete with Henry’s role.
This maybe a shortcomming within the squad, but there are not that many players available at other clubs that could be bought by Wolves to play that role. In the meantime Henry should be appreciated for doing his best for his the club he clearly is devoted to.

1 – nobody else needed to comment really.
What impresses me most is his attitude since it happened. Against Swansea and Wigan he was the player who most had the attitude that we were only losing over ‘his dead body’. He won a great tackle in the midfield at 2-1 (I think) which said it all. For me a 50-50 ball won is as good as a 60 yard pass.

glad to see karl henry getting the support he deserves.. But we cant expect him to do “wigan runs” every week..karl HAS to pass sideways and backwards sometimes..thats how football works..you have to pick your moment to pass forward and the timng accuracy and movement have to be right..not to mention the disposition and efforts of the opposition..its much harder than it looks!! Check out a similar run from Mike Bailey against Arsenal..1972 i think..its on “The Tube”…he plays a devastating pass across the box for kenny hibbitt or jimmy mac i think to fire in..bailey was similarly underrated by some fans including me until my brother a sports coach explained what he was doing..part of my footie education!! Its about how teams move and work TOGETHER not what formation they play..

A lot of the criticism KH gets comes from him being exposed by either bad tactics on the day or poor performances around him. This is not to say he does not have bad games , every player does. As for the sarcastic cheers against Sports Direct United I’m of the opinion they were aimed at MM.
Now for moving forward this season we must play KH in a 4-5-1/4-4-1-1, with Milijas alongside him so as not to over expose him. For me Ohara Jarvis and Doyle as the attacking midfield and Fletcher up top. Then in jan we need at least 2 or 3 players that should have been bought in the summer.

I’d like to echo the comments regarding Karl’s surging run on Sunday – it was great to see him throw off the shackles like that. I get the feeling he tends to see attacking as somehow abandoning his defensive duties, but in actual fact as long as the cover is there he should go for it – it makes him look an entirely different player. More of the same please Karl. The negativity at Molineux is a real issue – and it often pours out of people who know zero about football. I was in the South Bank on Sunday and an idiot behind me started to moan as soon as we kicked off. When we got into a safe position they then moaned about the pitch. People like that are not needed, take your bile elswhere. Wolves Ay We!

The large majority of people who were found sarcastically cheering the substitution of one Kelvin Henry in the Newcastle game was the result of literally YEARS worth of frustration at the misguided relationship between the manager and his golden boy former captain.
Fact is that Henry from day one has been granted this baffling immunity by Mick that sees him in the team week in week out regardless of performance, production and ability.
We have seen better more able midfielders, and before you start that includes people that are more than capable of playing this mythical ‘Henry holding role’ fall by the wayside whilst Karl continued to steal a place in the starting eleven and often has been more of a hindrance to our attacking play than he is to the other teams.
Even now, in the current squad their are at least 4 players better suited to the demands of this level of football, who continue to bench warm whilst Henry is given unlimited time to produce, fair does against Wigan he finally contributed something of note, and at this point the media and McCarthy jump on the bandwagon and tell us ‘we told you so’… well no, it doesnt prove anything, one decent outing in every 50 is far from earning your keep and justifying your continued selection.
It is also mind numbing to continually hear the references about Henry being ‘one of us’ Wolves through and through. His half hearted lacklustre anonymous performances in the gold n black would suggest otherwise. He is the first person to go missing in the derby matches, the very games that matter most to the true Wolves fans, which would explain why growing up Henry was an avid follower of Blackburn Rovers! funnily enough whilst they were winning the Premier League in it’s embryonic stages.
One final note which is enough to make most Wolves fans cringe, is the immediate support and protection that the manager gave to Henry after the Newcastle game, wrapping him in cotton wool and putting his own reputation on the line to preserve the feelings of Karl Henry, perhaps Mick should show a little consistency across the entire squad… E.g perhaps he should consider the feelings of players such as Nenad Milijas and Adam Hammill and the negative effect it may have on their morale not only that they have to play second fiddle to the less able Henry but that they are given a chance every blue moon in which they perform and are then cast back aside come the following week, yet where is Mick’s outcry to protect their feelings.
Fact is that any supporters reaction is intertwined with the over inflated admission fee. If you paid your money for a concert or comedy show you would expect to be entertained, it is the same principle in a football arena, although the more realistic members of the audience wouldnt expect such dizzy heights as to be entertained at Molineux, we still expect something in return, even if it just 90 minutes of effort and endeavour, we did not get this from Henry against Newcastle, and have not seen it from him in the weeks before and afterwards, hence the verbal onslaught which was more than justified.

Post 8 -I tend to agree with Warren’s observations. All of a sudden, it seems the fans are ‘wonderful’ to everyone connected to WWFC, despite previous noises to the contrary. It is, as you say, Warren, pretty ‘hollow’, especially given Mick’s outbursts. Still, they’re trying to build bridges, I suppose, and I applaud them for that. So, let’s all kiss and make up, shall we? ;-)
Save any cat-calling, heckling, booing (or anything else of a negative nature) until the 90 mins are completed, please, lads -NOT that I’d like to see or hear any. Hopefully, we can be a united club again -and we’ll certainly need to be to survive this league. Unity has got to be the way forward, whether you want Mick or you don’t.

Anyone else fed up hearing this dross about being a ‘real’ supporter.
Technically you are saying a ‘real’ supporter should pay through the nose and then sit there, shut up and accept whatever drivvle is being produced without any question or comment.
Sounds to me like narrow minded, happy clappers who are just happy to be out the house.
A ‘real’ supporter understands when ther are being conned and taken for a ride by a Chief exec and a board which conntinues to take take take without anything coming the other way.
I wonder if we’ll get 40,000 ‘real’ supporters who will mindlessly sit down and be spoon fed Championship football whilst their money is being poured pointlessly into the stadium for Morgan’s own benefit rather than into improvement of the over achieving championship at best squad we have at the moment.
3 points against a miserably poor Wigan side and you think your misguided loyalty has paid off?? Return to the boards after the next two games and you’ll see how much you are being made fools of and how blidn you really are to what is unfolding in front of your very eyes.

54 ‘Real’_Supporter – The clue is in the name, supporters support. Its as simple as that, if you dont want to give your support to a club, then your not a supporter. The problem with modern day fans is that Sky have given them a chance to watch any team they want, so most youngsters are supporting the bigger teams. Those people are glory hunters, who are only a fan of a club when they are winning. The problem is, with the money that is being produced in modern football, the glory hunting mentality is now at every club, and if a team isnt winning every week, supporters arent happy.
I think every supporter, whether your a glory hunter or a negative or so called happy clapper wants the team to succeed. The main difference is though, when things arent going our way, the glory hunters will go elsewhere, whereas the real supporters will stay and support their team. I think the main factor that seperates these different groups of fans is expectation. I would be delighted with Mid table this season, but know just because we have survived the 2 previous seasons, we have no devine right to do that, how many other clubs that survived last season have exactly the same goal, and not everyone is going to acheive that goal.
I want Wolves to be winning titles and trophies every season, but I will also support my club even if we were in the conference. I think if your not prepared to support a club based on the division they’re in, your not a real supporter.

In my humble opinion Karl Henry does a superb job for the team. All successful teams have at least one player who breaks up attacks and feeds it to a team mate. Whilst perhaps not possessing some other players finesse Karl gives his all for the team and has by his own admission not played to the best of his ability on occasions. Every player has a dip in form at some point, give him a break for god sake! However he has shown on recent performances how valuable he is to the team.
Don’t listen to the boo boys Karl you are loved and treasured by 99% of true Wolves fans, who appreciate what you give to the team. You are Wolves through and through and may you and Wardy continue to grace the Wolves shirt for many years to come.

This is what happens when someone is praised so much over other players, they think they have a divine right to be in the team.
He has not been playing well for a long time, if you watch him he is always chasing back when the play has gone past him, that’s why the defence are so under pressure, he is not making the tackles or breaking play up that the position demands. We all know his passing problem, but it was a breath of fresh air to see him go forward on Sunday.

54 – Yes, I get fed up of hearing about ‘real’ supporters, too, bud.
What constitutes a ‘real’ supporter is subject to personal interpretation only -but that salient point frequently gets lost on some, I feel. It’s all wholly subjective because there’s no Oxford English Dictionary definition available.
Being a ‘real’ supporter can mean many things: sometimes being a so-called ‘happy clapper’ at times of crisis. Sometimes it means letting rip; even demonstrating if there need be -think of the Bhatti era, for example.
Sometimes it means just chanting a few home truths about the performance. Sometimes it means calling for a manager’s head. What provokes these responses is many and varied -and they will never universally agreed upon, either.
Being a ‘real’ fan, to some, means possessing a Season Ticket. To others, it’s the occasional, affordable game as dictated by low income exacerbated by the high cost of living. To yet others still, it’s never being able to attend a game due to unemployment, sickness or disability -or simply because of one’s location in the world.
A ‘real’ fan may be the excited child attending their very first game, yet he could also be the despised glory-hunter: the Johnny-come-lately’s who’s only interest is in seeing Premier League stars. He may not have been there -or even cared tuppence- during the depressing 1980′s, but his season ticket entitles him, as befits his cash outlay, to refer to himself as a ‘real’ fan. Or so he thinks.
A ‘real’ fan could be those who adorn their bedroom walls with every Wolves photo, framed picture or magazine article collected. They may have Gold & Black quilts on there beds, too…or maybe a club clock on the mantelpiece. The ‘real’ fan may be one who memorises every possible stat about the club, right back to the late 1800′s. Alternatively, he may be the one walking around the city centre in that brand-new Wolves shirt. Or he may be the one with club tattoos proudly displayed on his arms.
So, what’s my take on things?
Expressing your ‘support’ comes in many different flavours -some palatable, some most definitely not. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. There are no set rules, as I’ve already said. Accordingly, I have to beg to differ with Realist’s assertion (Post 56) that “The clue is in the name – supporters support. It’s as simple as that”. Oh, if only it WERE that simple! As I outlined previously, ‘support’ is manifestly varied from person to person. Well, after 40+ years of following my beloved club, that’s how it seems to me, at any rate.
Nobody should assume that there’s only one way -THEIR WAY- of defining a supporter. We come in all different shapes and sizes, and from different backgrounds and all corners of society. There AINT no standard fan or ‘real’ supporter. You won’t get perfect harmony at Molineux no matter how hard some folks complain. The crowd is made up of people -not pre-programmed robots or androids- and will, inevitably, react accordingly because it’s part of our human condition. If certain fans can’t accept that, then maybe it’s THEM -not the dissenters- who are attending the wrong sport.
You know, Crown Green Bowling is renowned for its genteel atmosphere and exchanged pleasantries, I hear, if anyone’s interested?

FACT – Wolves are better with a confident Henry in the starting 11
FACT – He’s not been at his best this season. Could well be because he lost the captains armband.
FACT – The abuse that he has received is a disgrace and some fans should take a long hard look at themselves … but obviously they wont.
If Henry gets his confidence back (footballers will tell you it’s all about confidence) then Wolves as a unit will improve.
BASICALLY – It was a bad decision to take away the captains armband.
Wolves ay we

Totally agree with Karl’s sentiments. Totally disgusted with the fan’s reaction. The reaction to my mind was that finally Mick had substituted KH, not that he had played particularly badly that day.
I for one am a fan of KH, although like many am frustrated my his lack of attacking flare. He naturally always wants to pass backwards, very occasionally actually passing forwards.
He must have listened to someone and actually had four shots on goal last home game.
We need players like him despite the frustration at times. We moan when we have lost the Alex Rae, Incey types but then moan again when we have KH. Basically there are alot of fans who just go to moan, fullstop.
Keep going Karl you are doing OK, just be a bit more attacking at times, might shut some of them up now and then.

55 ‘real’ supporter. You destroy your own argument. As soon as you start to talk about value for money and what players you deserve to be able to watch, then you are talking as a paying customer. Obviously that’s what we are, but if you choose to think like that (as is your right) then you cease to be a supporter.
Mr Morgan and Mr Moxey get my money, and I begrudge the ticket prices, ‘booking fees’, ridiculous refreshments, national rate phone lines etc etc.
Whoever plays in gold and black gets my support – no question.
You should change your name to ‘real customer’.

Karl’s position is the holding midfielder – yes? Therefore he’s not expected to play ‘killer pass’ is he? He is the water carrier, the clue is in the title!

I like to see an entertaining game as a wolves supporter with wolves players trying to compete. Lack of substantial funds mean we are also rans rather than contenders and that’s life. But Henry, and Ward before him, went through dark times. Ward came out of it to be one of our best players and hopefully Karl will too. The Wigan game suggests he will. If he reads fans comments then I hope it’s encouraging for him to see how easily it is to win over the supporters with a decent performance. Incidentally one of my personal favourites Guediora was hopeless on Sunday, and sometimes I think there must be masses of factors that affect performances which is why computer football management games are so successful!

Don’t most ‘real’ fans come from Madrid.

Stoke fans know how to support their team.
That’s right boo and jeer the confidence out of the team and then moan when we loose or look poor … how clever.
Wolves fans are ths lauhing stock of the fans of clubs like Stoke, derby County or Swansea.

65 ye olde south bank. Amen brother. The man speaks the truth and using some words that give me hope that not all of my brethren are numpty ejuts. I suppose the mere fact that we give a monkeys at all is testament to being real supporters. Let us celebrate our diversity and be glad of it my brothers (and sisters) for we all suckle at the teat of the canis lupus. Long may that be the case. UTW

Dear Karl,
Don’t let the foolish noises from a few fans give you the wrong impression. You deserve our admiration – your run into the box for the goal against Wigan was just an example of what you do for us. You are a role model for other local lads who want to give their all and make it in a premier league team.
Thanks for your hard work and dedication to the team.

It might sound heartless but get over it Carl.
we had lost 4 games on the trot and you had a few poor games and if mick had bought another defensive midfielder you should have been dropped.
The boos were at you, the team and the manager and you all deserved it in my view.
The way to keep crowds happy is by playing well and getting results. You have picked up your game and played well on sunday and got cheered.

Some of you lot want to get real along with Mr Henry
These guys are paid a fortune, if we under perform at work we get disciplined or altimatly the sack
What do these premadonas get! A pat on the back from Mad Mick and a garrenteed starting place
My heart bleeds for them, NOT!

We all want proper Wolves players. Even if they occasionally have off days. Nobody who was present at Charlton some years ago and who rembers Karl’s amazing late run to score the winner can doubt it.
No proper fan can doubt him.

I was one of the ones who cheered the sub and I couldn’t agree more with Genevawolf (10). This subject has been made into something it never was by being brought up over and over again.
We were 2-0 down, Henry was having a terrible game, we were struggling to break forward because of him holding up the ball, we needed someone more attacking minded and he is never took off (never will be again either now). We were getting killed and it made sense to put someone on who could make things happen. There was no point defending a 2-0 loss.
Let this rest now.

my veiws for what they are worth (everybodys entitled to them) are simple!!
when we signed Karl Henry basically Wolves were on their knees after the Hoddle era there was not much more than 20,000 on average watching home games we could just about put a first team together but we battled on & with some very decent signings including Karl Henry we made the play offs the same year, unfortunaltley we wasnt strong enough to beat our “friends” from up the road in the final hurdle to make it to the promised land, but the back bone of a decent team was formed, we soon made it to the promised land with a wonderful season which we all remember and with doing that we attracted more fans weekley to our home games im guessing these are the fans moaning about our current position the 3M’s, Messers Henry Ward & Doyle, and dont really remember the time when mr Hoddle left as they didnt go to the matches for whatever reason, i have never booed a wolves team i have never booed an England team they are my blood and history and im dam proud of them, and will get behind them whatever yes i agree with statements about ticket prices out of form players etc but you dont boo your own,
the away fans must love coming to Molineux when we are having a bad run as our fans heap more pressure on the team they must laugh all the way home.
i can remember being 5 down to Southampton and our fans singing we want 6 and getting behind the team happy days ;)

As someone said previously, the ‘Henry’ holding role is very important to us due to our Bambi on ice back four… the long and short of the matter is that Karl Henry is just not very good at filling this role.
Those who say we are a better team with Karl Henry in it, based on what exactly?? the 1 point from seven games misery we have just gone through…
This bloke the ‘water carrier’ is managing an egg cup full at best. His lack of ability is justified apparently because he is out there to be the protector of the back four and to break up the opposition play… well the proof is in the pudding, we are conceeding 2/3 goals per game, so he is EVIDENTLY not doing his specialist role with much effect. Fact.
In that godsend of a spell last season when Henry somehow got injured through his lack of activity, Kevin Foley filled in at defensive midfield and showed Henry up in 2 and a half months ‘filling in’ he showed how someone with a real footballing brain and a bit of technical ability can anchor successfully as well as be productive offensively.
McCarthy’s over protection of Karl Henry goes to show where the priorities lie, a team sadly selected on personality rather than ability, McCarthy is too ignorant to adjust his principles and as a result more competent players have to sit on the sidelines week in week out, and even more disturbingly we have learnt NOTHING from the fact we were just 2 minutes from relegation in May, more of the same from the manager will result in more of the same for the teams fortunes come the end of this season…

Karl Henry along with half of the squad are nothing more than very good Championship/very bottom end Premier League players. It’s a harsh truth.
They are players who struggle to perform at the required level week in week to succeed in this league (and by succeed I mean finishing lower mid-table in yor 3rd season)
It also appears to me that after nearly 2 1/2 seasons these players are not making enough progress to suggest that they will become good, solid, consistant performers at this level anytime soon.
It is absolutely no fault of their own and certainly nothing to be ashamed of, but they really do find it difficult to operate effectivly at this level and struggle at times… we understand this which is why fans keep reiterating, the ironic cheering WAS NOT aimed towards any player.
The fans’ frustrations were born out of the fact that the owner and managment of the club keep telling us of their desire to improve and consolidate in The Premier League. Yet, we as fans see the same old mistakes being made by the same old manager and players week in week out.
Having been lucky the last two seasons and can see our flirt with relegation this time round not turning out quite so happy.
Whether it be Collins & Keogh in the past or Ward & Henry now, the manager appears to dig his heels in and play them regardless of mistakes, ineffectivness and form, he literally shoves them into the firing line. A GOOD manager will know when and where to rest/drop players to get more out of them. I find it odd how over the years Giggs, Rooney, Shearer, Francis, Keegan etc have all been deemed droppable by their respective managers and came back better players for it, yet Henry is not.
Yes, for sure as MM often reminds us, his players are young/trying to learn/put a shift in/great bunch of lads etc etc, but if indeed the club is to go forward then this alone is and will never be good enough.
The manager has been given substantial funds over the last 2 years, way more than most teams around us, but his absolute refusal to replace his favourites and take this club forward is where my personal discrepancies lie, he must take full responsibility.
As long as he is here being blinded by loyalty, placing eternal faith on the shoulders of substandard players and being unable to manage big time players I fear regression and not progression and the fans will forever be split.

Erm…I’m not actually a football fan, full stop. Is that why I have difficulty in understanding a remark in one of the first few posts which says
“without the ball he is our best player” ?
Guess without the ball, I could be the best player as well.

People say the jeering wasn’t aimed at the player but how would he know that? Think about it you’re being subbed when you probably realise you’ve had a poor game and are greeted by jeers. Would you think “oh that must be the gaffer they’re having a go at” or “obviously the crowd thinks the sub has taken too long”? Course you wouldn’t, you’d think it was aimed at you.

Totally agree with Telford wolf on this one. Henry is not my favourite player, but he is the only one who can at least win the ball back…but that’s where it all ends. Once he has the ball, he just makes “safe” passes within 5 yards and we don’t go anywhere, well normally back to Hennesey and then he has to “hoof” it staright back out under pressure. That run he did aginst Wigan was fantastic and resulted in a goal…let’s see more of that Karl please…!!
