Stephen Ward insists Wolves have the ‘bottle’ for the crunch games

Stephen Ward today insisted Wolves have the ‘bottle’ for the crunch games after beating Wigan.

Sunday’s hugely welcome 3-1 success over the rock-bottom Latics means that each of Wolves’ three victories this season has come against sides in the lower reaches of the Premier League – Blackburn and Fulham being the others.

Last week, boss Mick McCarthy claimed Wolves had 12 ‘must-win’ games a season. And, with just over a quarter of the season gone, his side have already claimed three of them in a campaign that has also seen them face four of the current top six – and lose each one.

But after their struggles against sides around them over the last two years, left-back Ward feels his team-mate have proved they can beat the teams they need to when the pressure is on.

He said: “We had to show we’ve got the bottle to play in these types of games Hopefully it can be a turning point.”
