Wolves rally round Wayne Hennessey
Monday 31st October 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
Wolves today rallied around Wayne Hennessey by insisting he will be a top Premier League goalkeeper.
The Wales international turned from hero to villain in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City when he was at fault for City’s first two goals, after making three top-class saves in a goalless first-half.
But winger Stephen Hunt, who scored Wolves’ penalty at the weekend, said: “It’s important to remember what he’s done all season. I think he’ll end up playing for a top-four club one day.”
Team-mate Richard Stearman added: “Wayne is one of the best keepers in the Premier League and he proved that again. He’ll be one of our players of the season.”
Adlene Guedioura said: “Wayne had been brilliant. Sometimes you can lose concentration for one second and concede a goal. We’re all behind him and hopefully he can forget this.”
And McCarthy lent his support, adding: “All season he’s been brilliant so there are no recriminations from me. He’s got my support because he’s as good as anyone in the league.”

Chin up Wayne, keeping plugging away and I am sure that you will become a top 4 premier league goalkeeper.

Decent enough shot -stopper,but has always had teflon hands.
Just cant hold the ball, even when shots are straight at him.
Possibly rate him about 10th in the Prem.

Same thing happened at Bolton last season with Zubar.
This is not Hennessey’s fault. The fault is the players and there constant need to pass back to the keeper all the time. Henry was the worst offender but they all do it. They also do the same after every single kick off we do. Utterly pointless.
I have no clue why because they never get on the end of the kick anyway. Its one of the most frustrating things we do every game and it costs us points.

Hes top man, he hasn’t let many get past him recently considering how many games we’ve lost.

2 mistakes don’t make you in to a bad keeper overnight happens to everyone let’s hope he bounces back from it with a world class performance Sunday

I was up there for the game and I thought up until that point he was arguably man of the match unlucky Henno
Keep the faith

A mistake lets get over it.
However its been coming, too many times have we put the keeper in this situation and got away with it.
Other thing for consideration, no defender anywhere when the ball was going backwards to cover the 2 strikers that followed it.
Up the Wolves

Dont think hes a bad goalie but always think theres a mistake in him waiting to happen ala david james.I think hes short of top four class myself but hope he proves me wrong.

Well i think regulars on here, all know how i feel about Wayne, He’s going to be a top GK, in a few years time, most top GK’s in the BPL are about 30/38yrs old, so have far more experience, than Wayne. A lot of people forget how old he is, as he’s been in the first-team along time now. Yes the lad makes mistakes, and yes costly one’s at times. But so do the other players, but because their outfield players, their not so highligted, unless their defenders or in/around the penalty box, when they make them. But GK’s mistakes are always in the penalty area, but give the lad some credit too, most of his shot stopping is top class for a player so young 23/24yrs old,yes he still needs to be braver when coming for crosses, and shout louder too, but given time and encourement he will one day be a top GK,and could play for a top six team, hopefully that will be Wolves. He can’t be that good considering the amount of goals he is currently shipping!
Two goals on average aint good or am I missing the point?

On at least two occassions during the first half on Saturday I was expecting the net to bulge as City scored. The fact it didn’t was down to world class saves in my opinion. Keep your head up Wayne, terrific performance.

Don’t keep going on about it, thats no good for his confidence!
He’s been fantastic this year and 1 mistake gets highlighted, good job Johnson’s havent as they would still be wrinigt them all up!

Wayne is good enough.
We all make mistakes, even some of you guys on here i bet make the odd mistake.
Get off the players backs – (i know i have this thing about Roger Johnson being captain, but apart from that) – lets move on – and get behind the team on Saturday.
COME ON YOU WOLVES

What we should be talking about this morning is the brilliant stops he made in the first half without which we would have been dead and buried by half time!
Keep up the good work Henners.

Top GK no problem, we all make mistakes and he was unlucky the deflection went to a City player.
Another excuse for the Numpties to start posting the usual negative drivel….give it a rest PLEEEEAAASSSSSEEEEE!

11 – The goalkeeper isn’t the only person responsible from preventing goals from the other team – remember the defenders as well!

The first goal was the result of a mistake that all goalkeepers seem to make a least once in their careers. No doubt he will learn from it and simply boot it down field a little earlier in future.
The second error is a little more serious with regard to technique. I’m sure that the coaching staff will be emphasising to him the importance of pushing the ball away from the immediate danger area.
Nevertheless, for a young man who is the product of Wolves academy, he ain’t doing too badly. Two of his saves in the first half I thought were world class. And I can’t think of another game this season where a goal has been the result of a mistake from him.
