Stephen Hunt ‘fancied’ taking Wolves penalty at Manchester City
Monday 31st October 2011, 10:35AM GMT.
Stephen Hunt today revealed he took Wolves’ penalty at Manchester City because he fancied himself to score.
The Republic of Ireland winger buried the 75th minute spot-kick to get off the mark for the season to make it 2-1, before Wolves went on to lose 3-1.
But Hunt only took it after stealing in ahead of regular taker Kevin Doyle, who won the kick after being fouled by Vincent Kompany, the City captain sent off for the foul.
Doyle scored a penalty at the same end of the Etihad Stadium last season as Wolves lost 4-3, but never got the chance of a repeat this time.
Hunt said: “It was one of those things – if you fancy it, you take it. If you score, you’re a bit of a hero, if you miss, you’re the villain. But I fancied it so I took it and I scored.”
