Steven Fletcher is missed at Wolves
Saturday 29th October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Boss Mick McCarthy today admitted Wolves are sorely missing £7m record signing Steven Fletcher.
McCarthy is hoping the three-goal top scorer returns to full training on Monday to be fit for next Sunday’s visit of Wigan, which will be seen as a real test of Wolves’ resolve after their recent struggles.
Today’s trip to Manchester City was the third Premier League game in a row Fletcher has missed with a torn calf. After the first two games of the season, the goals scored by Kevin Doyle and Jamie O’Hara in last week’s 2-2 draw against Swansea were the only ones netted by anyone else but Fletcher before today.
Fletcher’s injury has been complicated by a cyst at the back of his left knee which the striker has had since the start of pre-season but has now burst.
The former Hibernian hitman has been sidelined at a time when McCarthy is also without Ronald Zubar (groin) and Kevin Foley (ankle), while Jody Craddock (groin and hamstring), George Elokobi (ankle) and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (knee) are only just returning to full fitness after lengthy stints out.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

Its no good complaining what about what we need now.. If Mick had sorted the striker options out in the summer, we would not be here now.

No
What you really needed is a left back and another centre half, as the many on here indicated in the summer but you knew better.
How many goals have we conceeded now?

How things change. MM only played when Doyle got injured last season

Totally agree give big Sam a go he looked not too bad when he came on against Swansea last week. I’d just like to add too that we all our Mick McCarthy a huge debt of gratitude for all he has done for OUR club!! I haven’t had the chance to post as ive been busy at work but lets all stand behind Mick and OUR team!!

Oh really? You weren’t that bothered about him when you froze him out for the best part of last season, only giving him a chance when your ‘babbie’ Doyle got crocked; Mind you, your eye for a player is so poor, it makes you wonder what you’ve got over Moxey that’s keeping you in a job? Of the £48m you have spent in the top flight at least half has been wasted, add in Johnson and the non-scoring Doyle, that rises to 75% wasted; Please do the honourable thing and resign at 17.00 today;

Strange that Mick cause last season you didn’t want to know him and played Ward up front instead of Fletcher!! It wasn’t till Doyle got injured end of season that you played him and Fletchers goals saved us…Very lucky but hope we get something today, football is a funny old game!!

Just seen the team sheet for today….Where the hell is Milijas ?????
This is too much, just about Wolves best player against City during the week…Is the manager mad ?

I don’t understand how he can release a story saying he misses Fletcher when he has taken ages to actually play the guy, injuries aside. Fletcher plays, he scores, what’s the problem, Mick?

Am I missing a trick but this guy plays for us and is netting….

Que??
Which basically reads….
Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood is hoping to extend Leigh Griffiths’s loan deal beyond January.
The 21-year-old Wolves striker opened his account for the Edinburgh side on Saturday, scoring twice in the 3-2 win at St Mirren.
“We’ve got to talk to Wolves at the time,” said Calderwood.
“We’re in contact with them just to keep them up to date with how Leigh’s doing and it’s something we’ve got to broach.”
Thoughts anyone??

Watched the game on line today – sad for Hennesey as he made 2 magnificentsaves and then faulted easy efforts to gift Man C 2 goals. Sha the playersnme after all his valiant displays so far this season but we played well and could have got a point out of it.
Well done

Watched the game at Man C today on web.
Greatly improved effrt by the players. Shame for Hennessey having made 2 magnificent saves to gift City 2 goals . Could have had a point today.

Strange how valuable Fletch is all of a sudden. The fans have always recognised that Fletch is way better than wing hugging Doyle. McCarthy got lucky last year when Doyle got injured and he had no choice but to play Fletch. It was Fletchs goals that saved us. Not. mcCarthys “managerial or tactical skills” . Like last week the manager got lucky when Brendan Rodgers took off his best two players. This season McCarthys luck will run out. Then we won’t have to read or listen to his almost intelligible illiterate comments. He’s supposed to be a professional. If a player had reacted the way McCarthy did last week they would have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute and fined.

Facing facts Doyle is not the type of striker we really need up front who can turn a game around.
His return from all these recent and past games as the lone front man speaks for itself in this regard.
True the service often isn’t there and as a result he has to go looking across the whole pitch but half the time thats the problem.
Some of the top gola scorers often seem not to those putting “massive shifts in” or running the length of the pitch but can pop up in the right place and put those half chances away!
Question is – who else do we have and even if we did have that type of goal scorer would he get a game anyway!
Any one know why Milijas was missing?

If a manager in any division was told that he had £40 to £50 million to spend on players would he say no?. I’m not a supporter of our manager because I feel he has no idea of how to apply tactics so surely the problem lies with our owner, who we all know is a Liverpool supporter. I expect that as a successful business man, he will sell the club as soon as the alterations have been finished. Why a business man in his position uses MM as a mouthpiece can only lead me to beleive that Mr Morgan is not a true supporter.

Couldn’t get it on line, what site did you watch it on? saw it on Sky later and nice to see the extra effort and energy and Hunt coming back into form, be there for Wigan and looking forward to seeing Fletcher score, why doesn’t Ebanks Blake get into the box when he comes on??

its not the left back that is the problem any more. ward has become pretty decent and his positioning has improved.
wish i could say the same for stearman at right back.
