Manchester City 3 Wolves 1

Manchester City 3 Wolves 1

Valiant Wolves pushed 10-man Manchester City hard in a display which would have beaten many teams.

Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey turned from hero to villain, being at fault in the build-up to Edin Dzeko’s 52nd minute opener and Aleksandar Kolarov’s 67th minute effort, which made it 2-0 ,after making three superb saves in the first-half.

Stephen Hunt’s 75th minute penalty gave Wolves hope, especially as City had captain Vincent Kompany sent off for its award for bringing down Kevin Doyle.

But City extinguished any comeback hopes for Wolves – who had brought on axed duo Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Matt Jarvis late on to force the issue – when substitute Adam Johnson curled home their third a minute into stoppage time.

Predictably, City dominated but they had nothing to show for their efforts at half-time after a goalless first 45 minutes.

For that Wolves had to thank Hennessey, who pulled off three super saves to deny the club he served as a trainee.

The Wales international was in action after just 70 seconds to tip over a volley from Samir Nasri.

Then Hennessey produced a superb one-handed stop to foil City, when Nasri let fly with an angled drive from 20 yards in the 23rd minute.

His third major save came four minutes from the break and was just as breathtaking, standing up to block after Dzeko had been put clean through by David Silva.

But Wolves lived dangerously and benefitted from a horrible miss from Sergio Aguero on 25, spooning wide from point-blank range.

Appeals for a City penalty were waved aside 10 minutes later for Richard Stearman’s challenge on Dzeko, as both challenged for Nasri’s cross, before a much-improved Roger Johnson blocked from Silva’s follow-up at the far post.

Wolves’ only chance of the first-half actually came from a City mistake, when Micah Richards lost control of the ball and Hunt fed Doyle for a left-foot shot, dragging well wide when he might have done better.

After a superb display of goalkeeping, the goal that saw City break the deadlock seven minutes after the break was unfortunate on Hennessey.

Under little pressure initially, the goalkeeper took an extra touch, only to see his clearance charged down by Aguero, leaving Dzeko the easy task of firing into an empty net.

Fifteen minutes later, it was 2-0, when Hennessey failed to hold Silva’s curling shot and Kolarov bundled home.

Wolves, who had trailed by 2-0 in each of the previous six league games, continued to battle in typical style and gave themselves a lifeline with Hunt’s 74th minute penalty.

Kompany was sent off for dragging down Doyle as they challenged for the rebound from Adlene Guedioura’s shot, that was parried by Joe Hart.

With an extra man, Wolves came more into the game and McCarthy made a double attacking substitution in the 85th minute, bringing on Ebanks-Blake and Jarvis for Hunt and Guedioura.

But, despite plenty of possession, Wolves couldn’t force another breakthrough.

Ebanks-Blake and Jarvis were two of three changes McCarthy made from the side that drew 2-2 with Swansea last Saturday.

Adam Hammill, Jarvis and Ebanks-Blake made way for Edwards, Guedioura and Hunt as McCarthy switched to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with O’Hara supporting lone frontman Doyle.

Wolves suffered their sixth defeat in seven, making it one point out of the last 21 in the Premier League.

But their performance was one which offered plenty of hope for the tough battles ahead and they remain out of the drop zone in fourth bottom, before next Sunday’s potentially huge home clash against Wigan.

Another good performance from the Wolves!!

Shame about the first goal with but importantly Wolves didn’t let it get to them and they kept battleing. Man City’s finishing is clinical and we did excellent keeping them out for so long.

Were getting better and better with each game we just need that win now to get us climbing the table. Can’t wait for the Wigan game now, I think Wigan have claimed the first religation spot on two left to avoid now.

Hope this brings some positivity to the molinuex.

Now on the verge of the bottom 3. Will be there after losing to the mighty Wigan next week!

When will Morgan and Moxey deal with the incompetence in the manager’s and coach’s offices?

phew… what a bore of a match… plenty of hope?? more like plenty of the same under McCarthy… anyone can park a bus in front of their goal

This team looks pretty hopeless to me.. shame because 2 or 3 players would transform it, I’m quite sure.

Glad to see the excuses of started though… E&S starting to list the injuries and of course we are desperately missing our 3 goal ‘hot shot’ that is fletch.

Don’t put ALL the blame on Hennessey for that first goal.
Every team from Walsall to Man United knows that when the Wolves have the ball they are always looking to pass it backwards.
    City obviously did their homework.

    Well another loss.

Sky sports news say Hennessey had two howlers. Oh dear!!! Mind you they had a player sent off…and we still couldn’t score….spot the problem…

I still say its time for change…and the day of Muppet and Clipboard’s reckoning will be next Sunday against Wigan. Hopefully we will lose and be rid of these two!!!

1 point 7 games shows how bad we are. Mistakes from the players has been costing us for the last 3 seasons – same players – same mistakes and same no ambition. It is hard to slate the team against a rampant City.
The effort and application was First Class.
Adlene who I have always wanted in the team did not perform, his shooting left alot to be desired.
He lost the ball a good few times and many of City’s attacks were done when we lost the ball “CHEAPLY”.
I really dont know where we go from here other than we have to start winning and must beat “WIGAN” who have lost “SEVEN” on the bounce,I sincerely hope we are not in our charitable mood and halt their losing sequence by letting them beat us!!!
It as happenend quiet frequently under “MM”.
Who knows what we may have done if “HENN” had not made such a blunder.Cant completly blame him as we do tend to pass the ball back to him far too frequently. One could say “He should be used too it so”!
I still beleive this team can survive but we do require a manager who will fill them with confidence.
What ever flair we have in the team “MM” seems to kill it!!
Hamill came on and looked unsure of what to do,may be Adlene was also in two minds hence a poor performance from him.
Hunt should not have started as he is a timebomb who explodes ,when their is no need.
We need compusure but if the manager does not have it how are his croonies going to be composed.
Doyle did have one shot which was woefully off target, yet he was talking the talk before the game.He needs to be given a few weeks break “SEB” as to start starting as I beleive he can score and also work as hard has doyler.
We fans are also very fickle in the sense alot of fans will be saying that the “WIGAN” game is a must win, this line is becoming predictable as the same was said for the “QPR,SWANSEA” games!!
“MM” is a poor manager who is lost in his very own “WORLD”.Why else would a manager play “STEARMEN”!!Ok he made one great “BLOCK”!Has all the “HAPPY CLAPPERS” will state.
“MM” is a tinkrer so why not go the whole “HOGG” “MM” play “K HENRY” as a “CENTRAL DEFENDER” I beleive this could work as he surely can tackle and as been known to defend last ditch more than the likes of “BERRA” and co.
Henry should also be made “CAPTAIN” has much as his negative play is a problem,he does show very much he is “WOLVES” inside out.
He shows amazing amount of desire and fight which can not be bought.

It’s obvious the players can’t use their feet, so the only way for Morgan to wake up is for the paying public to use their feet and stay away, maybe with an empty stadium he might get the message. It’s the same story every week but if nobody is there to listen we can only hope Morgan will change the story.

I do fear for us as the likes of bolton and Blackburn could be in false positions.Wigan like us are lucky to be in the league “MARTINEZ” is just as bad has “MM” as he sees everything through Rose fuelled glasses.
That is why these boards are full off “same mistakes by the same players the defence makes basic errors” this as been the case for 3 years! this is enough of a clue to know where “MM” needs to go?!

As a genuine fan and not a nutter I have been very critical of MM and the board in the previous weeks. However, readin some of these messages make me sick to be a wolves fan. What did we expect today. If it was less than 8 I would have been happy. We had a go and that result is the best we could have coped with. They had 10 men for a short period of time and there 10 are far better than 13 of ours never mind 11. Be realistic. They beat the champions by 6. If we lose to Wigan fair enough start with the criticism. But get real. We are wolves and O’Neil/Hughes won’t touch us with a barge pole because we will always have a level. MM has done a great job. In my opinion he has reached his level and will never take us further. However, use an ounce of sense before the drivel that fills this site and gives all wolves fan a bad name!

Well, were in a dog fight now that’s for sure, hope MM, TC, Moxey and Morgan are happy with this disgraceful situation we are now in and think back to when the transfer window was open. 128 games and only twenty won, no points from the last 6-7 games now! The writing will be on the wall next week against Wigan, wonder what the gate will be and the management position if we lose?
Getting more depondent with each game. When fans don’t turn up at games and refuse to renew their season tickets, that will be the wake up call they will need. All we want is some success and watch a quality skillful team, not this rubbish.

All i asked of the lads yesterday, was give it your all, and i think most the fans ,would agree thats what the lads did,and would be happy with that performance, against ‘mega-bucks Man City. I really felt sorry for Wayne, has ive always been a big supporter of his. He kept us in the game in the first half, with two-three top saves, but then made at least one if not two very costly mistakes,i do wish GK’s would just stick their foot through the ball, even if it ends up in row Z, rather than try to play football with it in/around the penalty area, lets face it most GK’s are poor with the ball at their feet. But before people get on his back, remember he’s kept us in a lot of the games this season with some outstanding perfomancess, remember what ive said many time about Wayne, he’s only a young lad, still learning his trade, and how many GK’s in the BPL are the same age as Wayne? As for the second goal, why is it,when GK’s push a ball out, strikers always react first, while defenders always seem static? It sounded a decent game on the radio, and with a little bit of luck who knows we may even have snatched a draw? I just wished our subs, had come on soon as Kompany was sent off. Yes we conceeded a third, which killed the game off for us, but that was only because we were pushing up for a second goal, and you often find that happens to you, especially with the class that the opposition had today. But i feel our players may have gained alot of confidence with that performance, and must now take that into next Sunday’s vital game with Wigan. It is without doubt a must win game, nothing else will be accepted,by the owner/manager/coaches/players, but more so by the ‘SUPPORTERS’ UTW:

I’m more interested on how we perform against Wigan as this is the real test. If we take 3 points I’ll lay off MM. Anything less then the 3M’s really have to start thinking about the R word.
Is it really too early to panic, maybe but this season we are unlikely to pick up points against MU, MC, Chelsea and Liverpool. That is the reality and if we don’t beat Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and other relegation candidates at home you can say goodbye to the PL. We would have all put 6pts in the bag when we saw QPR and Swansea at home, never mind Norwich who appear to have some steel.

We simply cant win premiership games like this no matter how well we play and thats why were 4th from bottom.

In the last seven Premier League matches we have taken one point from 21.
    We have scored five goals.
    We have conceded sixteen goals.

Suggest for the next game we change both the attack and defence for ones that can compete at this level.

Finally I take it that bad “Game Management” you spoke of on “Match of the Day”, means because we took no points it was the player fault, but when we salvaged a point against Swansea it was because of the “Great Mick McCarthy”.

23……………What transfer policy are you talking about. Is it the one where we show interest in a player but then fail to get hime cos he costs more than £50 ?

Most teams put up a valiant fight against the big guns and that’s expected. It’s the valiant fight against teams like QPR and Wigan and Swansea that matter most.

When we play these teams we put out sides that compete energetically. What we should do is play our creative players – or at least one of them.

Once again Wigan is a real challenge when they should be ‘easy meat’. On past form and team selection we will probably lose and that will set us up for a very very long winter.

Not a bad result against City at the moment restricting them to 3 goals is a lot more than other teams including Man u have managed. Getting rid of MM is going to achieve nothing at this time as his squad is not good enough and no manager will change that fact now however the end of dec would give a new manager the Jan window to ship out the rubbish and get quality faces in just have to hope we get a couple of wins in the mean time.

I was able to watch the entire Man City game from a hotspot in Thailand and saw nothing different apart from a little more effort than what i witnessed during the Albion mess.

But it’s a fact, Adolf and his henchman dont deserve a stay of execution after this dreadul run of results, what is is it now 1 point from 21,i’m losing count, but this is totally unacceptable herr McCarthy.

You should have the guts not to pack your bags along with your chronies and clear off. Let someone else try and sort out the mess you have got us into.

Unless you go its championship football again next season for sure.Your cv just isn’t good enough for WWFC

watching Man Cty couldnt help but think why can’t this be wolves then i realised JM and SM are not interested in team building.

All they want is a new and empty ground. Shame on both of you,go and join MM in the dole queue.

    Waynes big gloves!

Can’t really blame Hennesey, thought he had a good game and pulled of some great saves to stop it going higher. He must be pushing Hart for the England jersey, far better keeper IMO.
It seemed MM’s game plan was, as usual, hoof it to Doyle or try to get it down the wings which, against a team like city, does not work, their defence is quite solid and Doyle hardly won anything and was always on his arse. Our midfield play and counter attack is slow and flatfooted. When we do attack Ohara or Ward are looking for a gold shirt but there ain’t none moving quick enough. City seemed to slice us apart with their slick passing and movement. Never mind how much city players cost, these moves and skills can be learn, it ain’t rocket science, but on the other hand most of the team are championship.
Look on Wikipedi, put in Roy Keane and you will see what he thought of MM as a manager.
It ain’t nice but we need to be real if we want to progress and this management and team will not do it. I don’t expect to have Morgan spend millions but just a bit of what city have would be nice and to have some success instead of bloody losing every week. 2-3 quality players would make a difference. Mr Morgan you have a fantastic fan base and that new ground would be filled each week but the club, you, need to put niceties aside and clear the decks of this regime, bet you do it in your construction business, you are not a millionaire by being nice, so please apply the same strictures and get the club moving.

Wanting our team to lose to get someone the sack really is shameful, some ‘fans’ are rotten to the core. I hate to say this but listening to the Albion fans cheering and singing their team on at 2-0 down to Liverpool last night was commendable, in a million years I cannot imagine us doing the same at the moment..

Our transfer policy/lack of signings/naive perception we had a good enough squad this year will be our downfall, and everyone from McCarthy up needs to be accountable for that. I would like to see a change, but not by wishing defeats on the team.

Not a game we were expected to get anything from, given the comparative investment of the clubs, but the manner of conceding the goals was pathetic.
Just when you thought we only had a poor back 4, the sloppiness extends to the goalkeeper, with his potential replacement hardly providing a reliable alternative on the evidence provided last Wednesday.
Whilst Moxey and Morgan may still trust Mick McCarthy, like many fans they must be losing confidence in his ability to ever comfortably compete at this level.
When the fixture lists were announced not many supporters can have expected Wolves to have accumulated less points than Swansea and Norwich at this stage.

MM cannot attract these quality players either by the fact his record of management at this top level is awful and players know this and won’t come to the Molineux and /or the Wolves will not pay higher wages than the Championship salary scale we still adhere to.

Somebody tell Jarvis he is too prectable. Why does he cut back every time to his right foot (distrusts his left?)? He is becoming exasperating…..and so so predicatble. I am sure opponents have already noticed. He waa the last WW player to touch the ball for their 3rd on saturday. He had space to hit vthe by line by, as usual, cut back for such a weak cross that Lescott easily dealt with it, setting up their passage of play that ended in the goal. Laughable again. Hennessey is too young and the players have no respect for him and always will be for another 6 or so years. He is very inexperienced and comes nowhere close to what Hanneman offered. Until Hennessey is removed the defence will remain weak. The Goalie is the glue for the back four and he needs to command the box. He’s too young hence and the players treat him like a kid.

Lots of comments above from those who have only read the above report and not seen any of the game.

As someone who was in attendance yesterday, I thought it was a good performance considering the opposition. Karl Henry was superb in midfield, Stephen Ward continued his good start to the season, and I thought O’Hara looked far better pushed further forward off Doyle.

Guedioura was hit and miss; got caught in possession a few times but was the catalyst for winning the penalty with his strike from distance.

Hennessey at fault for the first goal but he made a couple of world class saves in the first half. The worry for me is still Roger Johnson; it might be a lack of confidence but he was poor again yesterday. His lack of pace and poor distribution is a worry – Balotelli pushed him off the ball so easily for the last goal. I wouldn’t think I’d be saying this after the first few games of the season but perhaps it’s time to get Craddock and Berra alongside eachother to steady the ship.

Overall though more positives than negatives yesterday; play like that next week and we’ll win.

If we draw or,God forbid, lose that game I really don’t see how MM can honestly continue as manager of our beloved Wolves. How can he? If the only team worse then ourselves in this league take 2 or 3 points off us we’ll more than likely be in the bottom 3 with trips to Chelsea etc.. ahead of us. We desperately need new quality players – but will they come if we’re in such a dire mess and will Morgan pay for them? Personally I do not believe the hype that ‘all is rosie in the Wolves garden’-how can it be? Surely the management can not be that naive, just to let things continue the way they are? Can they?

All i asked from the lads on Friday, was give it your best shot, thats all the fans want from you, no one expects us to get much from this match against ‘mega-bucks’ Man City. And until Wayne’s costly error, we kept them reasonable quiet, except for two excellent shots, but before people get on Wayne’s back, remember Wayne saved those two shots with top class saves? My only gripe is why do most GK’s think they are equally as good with their feet,as their hands, when they clearly are not. Why didnt he do exactly what he’d done a few times before and lump it 30/40yrds up the field, without taking that first ‘heavy’touch,as about three minutes later the same situation arose and he did exactly that. But until that error, he was our best player,so lets not forget that. Some people on here will know ive always been a huge fan of Wayne’s, yes he’s not the best at coming of his line for crosses etc, he’s still learning his trade, but he’s an outstanding shot stopper, and more importantly he’s only about 23yrs old therefore still vey young,in goal-keeping terms,as most in the BPL are about 30-38yrs old, and playing in one of the toughest league in the world. But like some supporters im still not happy that MM is still our manager, for many reasons, but i said to someone on here last week, that ive always have/will support WWFC first and foremost, and manager/players second, so it beggers belief how some fans above wanted us to lose, just to get rid of MM. I never ever want my team to lose,no matter what ‘MY’ personal liking/disliking of the manager or certain players are. How can anyone say their a true supporter,if the ever want their team to LOSE??? But i will say i think next weeks game v Wigan is a ‘MUST WIN’ match, i dont even think a draw will be acceptable to even the hardcore ‘HAPPY CLAPPERS’ on here. But i think our lads will gain a lot of confidence from yesterdays performance, and i also thought Roger Jonson’s performance was his best since his first two games for us,and hopefully after getting 3pts from next weeks match, it could kick-start our season off again. Well, an honourable defeat is about the best we could really expect from this match wasn’t it? Guess we would have lost anyway, even without Hennessey’s howler, because there is only so much time you can hold out against City’s array of talent. And that was the sole objective, hold out for a 0-0, because there was no ambition to attack until we went behind. Says it all really.
I would like to know why Milijas was not in the squad, especially with his goal scoring record against City. I think MM owes it to the fans to explain why.

The problem at Molineux is not McCarthy but the transfer policy last summer. That was probably decided by Morgan, not by Moxey or McCarthy. To spend enormous sums on a new stand when the club barely escaped relegation was an odd decision to make. It will be difficult to strengthen the team in January, no one wants to come to a club at the bottom of the League. Of course that could be part of the reason why only one player was recruited last summer. Perhaps Morgan was quite right to ensure that silly money wasn’t paid out in a desperate attempt to sign someone.

However, I think that saying “Valiant Wolves pushed 10-man Manchester City hard in a display which would have beaten many teams” is more than a slight overstatement of our attacking prowess. As Richwolf says, “Anyone can park a bus in front of their goal” -and aint that the truth?

The bottom line? Sorry, but there’s no getting away from it: We simply HAVE to beat Wigan at home if this nightmare run isn’t to destroy any remaining threads of confidence. Mick’s going nowhere, so let’s unite behind the boss and team and show them a united front for the biggest game we’ve seen this season.

No drawn knives. No booing. No protesting. Just 100% total support for 90 mins, please. Do that and neither Mick nor the boys can have any complaints. Save anyvitriol until after the match, if it’s needed. UTW.

Who would you replacehim with? who could we afford? Weare not a rich club, our owner is not a Russian billionaire or an Arab oil barron. Lets keep it real, lads. With the backing we have, the money, support from fans we are doing pretty good to keep in the prmiership. Football is not just about winning games for clubs like us, it’s a business and we have to balance the books. We could spend and get in all those “usefull” payers we think would solve our problems – just like Leeds United did once!

Ok we want a possible replacement manager to keep us happy. Who?
Martin Oneil – A good friend of mine who is associated with the tottenham board has already lined him up to take over from Redknapp who will get the england job next year. Thats why spurs have not spent money this season and thats why the chairman did not want to sell modric. So he is out the question simple as that.
Mark Hughes – open chequebook at man city could not even get top 4, walks out of fulham saying there not ambitious!! do we want someone like that who will just walk out…
Alan curbishley – londoner born and bred, at his age happy to do the odd sky sport punditary and not upsticks to move to the midlands. also been out of management for 3 years might as well ask keegan!!!
Poyet – just signed big extension contract moxey wont get involved in that.
Lee Clarke – looks to be getting leicester job.
Sven goran erikson – what another possible ex england flop, no way.
Anyone else, ancelotti, benitez, get real please.
So c`mon MM haters lets back the team because we survived last year on good home form and we need that 12th man desperately. Oh by the way anyone says we are going backwards in the premiership please look at the fact that 2 years ago we finished with 38pts last season 40 pts is that going backwards? UTW

I agree with 115 Ye Old South Bank.

Nothing allows for the abuse given to the Manager recently.

The fact remains however we have the poorest Manager in the PL and one who has zero respect for the fans whose hard earned money pays his wages,

He will be given no more money to strengthen the side and has wasted millions on many players who are still on our books.

He still as last season no idea of his best side or formation, this is evident by looking at the table, we are again now 4 from bottom. Remember the words this is not my club.

He should be replaced but probably won’t be unless there is a dramatic fall in attendances.

I am afraid Wigan looks like a banana skin waiting to happen, and he will have no idea on how to avoid it.

    20. Wigan 0 points from 7 games

120 – (the Flying Winger) Mick doesn’t float my boat, either, because I genuinely feel he’s reached the end of the road with our club. If he can change my mind, fine, I’ll take that willingly -but I sincerely doubt there’s much left in the tank. That’s just being brutally honest, not malicious. Unlike some on here, I can separate gratitude from sentimentality. Living in the past doesn’t help my beloved club progress, only the present does. However, I’m not and never have been a boo boy, TFW. The club has always received my total support on match days (spanning over 40 years), hence why I express my feelings on this site, not at Molineux. That said, let’s be a little more understanding of the Wolves’ boo boy culture. Take last week’s Radio WM phone-in, for example:

One grumpy Villa fan asserted that trouble would inevitably erupt on the Villa Park terraces if they lost at Sunderland. A second Villa fan later endorsed his view. Not bad for a club that had only lost TWO games thus far -one of them a 4-1 thumping at Man City, the other a derby loss to the Tescos (and we all know how unpredictable derbies can be). So, what’s the difference between potential unrest at the Vile or over at Molineux? In a word, none.

Only this very morning, Radio WM’s Daz Hale (a huge Wolves fan, as many will know) said that ANY Premier League with 5 straight defeats behind them can expect a huge backlash from fans if things start going badly wrong. Well said, Daz. You’re 100% right, of course. So, can everyone please stop painting our fans as somehow worse than others? That’s my message to both the media and to those seemingly ‘perfect’ fans who apparently wear golden halos on their unblemished heads.

    Let’s face facts:

Wolves desperately wanted to be part of the ‘Greed League’. Wolves dreamed of having some of the world’s finest gracing their hallowed Molineux turf -and probably wrung their hands in glee at the thought of the cash tills ringing. All were willing to betray that all-important bond between fans and the club to be part of the Holy Grail of top-flight football. Wolves and fans alike were willing to do whatever it took, just to live the dream. Had it had meant selling their soul, Wolves would probably have done that, too -though some may be tempted to say that Wolves already have sold their soul, such is the lack of respect afforded to the average fan these days, not to mention the feeling that your pockets are being bled dry at every turn.

Wolves and their fans were eager to get their hands on all the boundless fame and cash that only global marketing can deliver. Seemingly everyone with Gold & Black loyalties wanted to dash out and buy the latest Wolves shirt (complete with badges on the shoulders!) just to be able to boast: “We’re Premier League!” as they puffed out their chests with newly-acquired pride. Hell, we’re seemingly prepared to lose countless games and take the odd, sound beating, too -whilst simultaneously winning very few ourselves- just to be able to say: “We’re still in it!”. How sad.

The moral of all this? If fans become acclimatised to sitting at the rich man’s table whilst dining on caviar (or so they think)….

…then you can reasonably expect a backlash from the peasants when those very same fans fear a return to the soup-kitchen frugality of the Championship. You know Oliver Twist and his immortal line, “Please, Sir, I want some more”? Well, it’s the same thing.

You wanted Premier League? You got it -but it all comes at a cost! I mean, do any of you HONESTLY think that the high expectations, greed and sheer heat of playing in the Premier League is conducive in making role-model supporters who sit idly by, never raising one word of objection, irrespective of the fare on offer? Never in a million years. High prices drive high expectations, no matter how unrealistic they be. Fans are only human, too -something that we’re always too firmly reminded of when players or manager are less than perfect themselves. Well, it cuts both ways.

I may not be part of the boo boy culture, but at least I understand them. Such rebellion was always going to be the price we paid for owning that Premier League passport.

And that’s a fact, like it or lump it. UTW!

If you genuinely wanted Wolves to suceed, you wouldnt condone booing during matches, as that isnt going to help the club in anyway whatsoever.

do you seriously think just because your a customer you have a right to spew hatred towards the management and players.

I was a customer at Rileys, I paid my membership fees, but if i wasnt happy with the service does that mean i could call the staff every name under the sun. If that happened, i would be kicked out, banned, and possibly have a police visit to deal with.

I can actually express my concerns with the staff at Rileys a number of ways, maybe I could have sent a letter, or actually spoke to the staff like an adult, and I would probably have been treated like a valued customer , but if I spouted any of the words that have been directed towards the likes of Mick, Henry and ward during matches, theres no way I would get away with it.

You ask ‘what do I expect ?’

I expect a little more quality for the £50m McCarthy has spent and I expect a manager who has the guile and know-how to take us forward.

I am fully aware of the quality of the league we are competing in and I’m not naiive enough to expect comfortable midtable finishes quite yet.

Please ask yourself honestly, do you think what we get served up each week reflects decent value considering we have been relative big spenders even by Premier League standards ???

Do you really think the manager is doing a good job by sending out a team of 7 or 8 guys from the Championship backed up by 3 or 4 players who have ALL tasted relegation to scrap around making the same mistakes week in week out whilst relying the other team to have off day if we are to win ???

It is plain to see for anyone with more than an ounce for footballing knowledge that McCarthy has hit his natural ceiling and as long as he is here, we will NEVER progress, having to rely on luck each season to hopefully survive…and yes, luck has played a major part in both of our survivals so far.

I believe that both club and fans do share the same ambition of establishing ourselves in the Premier League and showing steady progress…nothing more, nothing less and I refuse to just stand by and watch this excuse of a Premier League manager dismantle the little bit of good work he has done and happily sit in the Championship for the next ?? seasons.

I don’t think lecturing Wolves supporters on behaviour whilst trying to justify the Barnsley Brawler’s behaviour works that well. I also detest booing our team or hoping they lose.

Nevertheless it does stretch patience (not loyalty) to the limit when we are comfortable with a point at home to Swansea and are grateful that a loss wasn’t a mauling. The Brawler has been given significant funds in his time, most of which has been wasted. We stayed up last season on the back of Birmingham’s spectacular collapse after the League cup win. The Realist says he wouldn’t insult staff at Rileys (where?) but would discuss his problems. This is football, get more real, Realist.

It is likely that Wolves will re-launch Wigan’s season on Saturday (they always do) anyone who slavishly praises such an abysmal record is seriously lacking common sense. Don’t tell me to go to Sandwell, Wolves is my team, has been since Billy Wright. I am not a fair weather supporter otherwise I would have gone years ago. I am just very unhappy at the lack of enjoyment or entertainment at the Mol lately, we have not moved one inch forward in three years. Anyone who ignores the reality of the situation we are in ignores the probability the attendances will be affected. You can understand why MM hasnt been picking Guiedoura of late, he lost the ball at least 6 times in the game and I do know as I went to the game. Apart from that wolves were excellent and we should have snatched a point.

Most of the Wolves players can pas a ball but they are not sharp passes, they take too long over them. There is never any more than two or three players around the pasing range and therefore they get out numbered. DO THEY EVER WATCH VIDEOS OF HOW THE TOP TEAMS HAVE FOUR OR FIVE PLAYERS WITHIN A ZONE SO AS THE PLAYER WITH THE BALL HAS OPTIONS?

Why pass aball back to the goalkeeper if the player on the ball can clear the danger zone? They pass the ball back some 20 metres for Hennessey to kick. Why cannot the out field player kick it.he has twenty or more metres advantage, or I am being too logical? If using the goal keeper , there should be several players with proximty to receive the ball. Let Hennessey play the role of an out field player in that situation? The Wolves coaching staff baffle most of us.

What does Doyle actually contribute during a match, Not even an odd goal here and there, they a re unique.

Why do they stand and stare instead of running into position?

    140 – Ye Olde SB

A well argued and coherent piece. I think Mick deserves more time, but it’s nice to see someone can disagree and still manage a rational and respectful article. To be honest I stop reading when I see words like ‘thick’ or ‘muppet’ as I find this offensive to a man who (whether you like him or think he’s out of his depth) has been our most successful manager in 30 years.

I think most people outside the club are amazed that Mick is under so much pressure. Wigan is becoming make or break. All I ask is 90 minutes of support for the team – even if we go behind. That is the action most likely to bring a victory, which is what we all want isn’t it ?

79 EIRE – thanks for another illiterate ramble.
Even by the standard of ‘debate’ on this site you set a new low – what is all that waffle about Mick leaving for the Ireland or Everton jobs?

You can all choose you statistics to suit but facts are
1 – we are not even in the relegation zone
2 – we stayed up last season and the one before despite some of you constantly saying we would be relegated

PS Sir Billy – the Southbank is the heart of the club. Admittedly not always the brain, but definitely the heart.

74 – Eastlands. You’re trooper mate for picking out those mistakes & blunders from our Wayne. Luckily for Man City the ball rebounded to their unmarked striker & for the second goal – didn’t Joe (Englands #1) Hart spill the ball forward like our Wayne resulting a red card for them & a penalty for us. By the way you didn’t even mention his World Class saves. Well done Wayne you were unlucky.

164 – Noisy. Thank you for your kind words. Appreciated.

Like yourself, I think Mick deserves due respect for what he’s achieved. We all owe him that much. I may not want him as manager any more because I think he’s reached the limits of his abilities -but, as you say, it’s perfectly possible for fans to disagree in a rational, respectful manner. Mind you, disrespectful behaviour is pandemic in all aspects of society, let alone football, so I guess neither of us should be too surprised, Noisy.

We’re agreed, too, that the Wigan game is fast becoming make or break. In all honesty, it probably already is. I don’t believe that even Mick -and he’s as thick-skinned as they come- could realistically expect to remain in his job should Wigan beat us. Even a draw could be viewed as fatal -and probably would, by many. So, a victory for Wolves is crucial for McCarthy, but even more so for our beloved club as a whole. That’s why I urge, as you do, for the fans to unite for 90 minutes and back the boss and team unreservedly. It’s NOT the time to be divided because we need those 3pts like never before. If the dreaded happens and we fall behind, disillusioned fans MUST remember that it IS still possible to win. Don’t transfer your negativity to the pitch, people. Instead, make Molineux an even bigger temple of noise and urge the lads to overcome adversity. Be that all-important 12th man for just one and a half hours of your life. It’s not much to ask, but may be the salvation of our season. Do your bit for your club because they need you now more than ever. If it’s still not enough, then feel free to make your feelings known once the game ends. Even Wolves themselves would not be able to deny you that right, surely? I’d understand it, too, but I still wouldn’t be joining in with it. Mick may not be my cup of tea anymore, but there’s something very distasteful about a manager being hung in public. That’ll be his fate though, if Wolves flop -I’m certain of that.

Finally: You say that most people outside of our club are “amazed” at the pressure Mick’s under, Noisy. I can’t honestly say that I’m surprised, though. I can think of several good reasons to explain it -but it might take a long write-up! However, purely where Mick’s concerned, I really don’t think he’s helped himself, I’m afraid to say. No manager can effectively take on a fanbase; challenge them indefinitely….and still expect to win. Such is life, huh? UTW.
