Stephen Ward still modest despite skippering Wolves for the first time
Friday 28th October 2011, 3:55PM BST.
Stephen Ward has just captained Wolves for the first time – but modestly believes he’s still a novice.
The 26-year-old is finally seeing his long-held popularity in the dressing room reflected among fans.
Arguably Wolves’ most consistent player this season, the left-back added another honour to his achievements by being named skipper for the first time in a competitive match for Wednesday’s Carling Cup defeat against Manchester City.
He said: “It was a real honour for me after being here as long as I have, and it was a nice gesture from the gaffer.
“I enjoyed it and it was good to lead such a good group of lads. Even if it’s the only time I ever do it, I’ll cherish it.”
