Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will not accept a tame Manchester City surrender
Thursday 27th October 2011, 3:00PM BST.
Boss Mick McCarthy insisted last night’s heavy Carling Cup beating had not set in stone the outcome of Saturday’s Premier League rematch with free-scoring leaders Manchester City.
It has fallen on Wolves to tackle in-form City on their return to their home stadium after the epic performance which humiliated their arch-rivals Manchester United last weekend.
And by way of a taster, last night’s 5-2 City victory in the battle of the second strings gave Wolves and McCarthy a real warning of what is to come.
But McCarthy is adamant his team will not be arriving merely to fulfil the fixture – despite their own worrying run of two points from the last seven games.
“Were we expected to beat Man City last night? Probably not,” he said. “But we will do our level best and it’s not a given that they will beat us on Saturday. “We won’t go there with any trepidation, we will go and play the game and see.”
