Wolves 2 Manchester City 5
Wednesday 26th October 2011, 9:45PM BST.
A stunning triple blitz from Manchester City sunk battling Wolves in a Carling Cup goal-fest at Molineux.

A devastating spell of three first-half strikes in just three minutes and 42 seconds from Adam Johnson, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko powered the Premier League leaders into the quarter final.
Nenad Milijas fired Wolves ahead but they had no answer to City’s big guns, despite barely deserving to be 3-1 behind at the break.
Dorus De Vries’ unlucky own goal made it 4-1 and Dzeko added a fifth, before Jamie O’Hara pulled a goal back on 65 minutes to make it 5-2.
Wolves now go to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday after seven winless games in the top flight.
Manager Mick McCarthy made nine changes from Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea with captain-for-the-night Stephen Ward and Kevin Doyle the only survivors.
The visitors, fresh from their historic 6-1 rout of Manchester United on Sunday, recalled two-goal hero Dzeko, Kolo Toure and Nasri, while Mario Balotelli was on the bench.
The changes seemed to unsettled City as Wolves started brightly and Milijas’ free kick deflected behind, after Stefan Savic fouled the lively Stephen Hunt.
It was a positive opening by the hosts and Doyle nodded over on 12 minutes following another left-sided raid by Hunt.
The hosts pressed and should have been awarded a penalty when Milijas’ free-kick struck Aleksandar Kolarov’s arm on 15 minutes.
But, three minutes later, Wolves got their reward for an industrious opening.
Sam Vokes outfoxed Toure on the left and, when his cross found Milijas via Adlene Guedioura’s leg, the midfielder smashed into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
The hosts’ high tempo game rattled City but only George Elokobi’s last ditch tackle on Abdul Razak denied the visitors a sight on goal soon after.
The tireless running of Doyle and Vokes was causing the slack City defence problems with Savic, cautioned earlier for a foul on Hunt, struggling.
But the Premier League leaders moved through the gears and threatened when Luca Scapuzzi fired just wide on the half hour.
It was just a warning as City then tore Wolves apart with a devastating spell of three goals in less than four minutes.
First Johnson levelled when he swept in from 19 yards on 36 minutes, before turning provider for Nasri to outpace Matt Doherty and drill in just two minutes later.
Johnson then produced a cross which saw De Vries save from Scapuzzi but Dzeko tap in the rebound on 40 minutes.
It rocked Wolves, who had more than matched their billionaire visitors, and Guedioura fired over as they tried to respond.
But any hopes of a revival were ended five minutes after the re-start when the luckless De Vries saved from Nasri but, when David Edwards blocked Scapuzzi’s follow up, it hit the goalkeeper and squirmed in.
De Vries then saved well from the impressive Dzeko but could do nothing to stop the striker adding a fifth on 64 minutes, ending a stunning flowing City move.
O’Hara and Adam Hammill replaced Doyle and Milijas and O’Hara pulled a goal back with his first touch on 65 minutes, sweeping in Ward’s cross to make it 5-2.
It stemmed the City tide and O’Hara and Ward both went close, but the valiant hosts couldn’t find a way back.

Valiant losers.Just about sums Wolves up.We just haven’t moved forward.

It sounded like the lads give it their best shot, but were undone by a mad ‘three minute spell’ apart from that, they didnt disgrace themselves against the mega-bucks boys of Man City. I think some of the players may have earned themselves a crack on Saturday? UTW:

A good opening 30 minutes. Should have had a penalty. However, city’s superior quality shone through eventually.
A tough game ahead on Saturday but if we show the same endeavour as today we’ll make a game of it.

Thought we looked quite lively with some good chances and lots of effort but Man City looked unreal! Up the Wolves – will be happy if we can keep them to less than 3 on saturday!

Watched on Sky – improved valid effort by Wolves against vastly superior Man City.
Doesnt auger well for Saturday.Poor gate against big team opposition suggests many stayed away – the missing 12000 wouldnt all be watching on Sky. Suggests Mc Carthys anti supporter disgraceful outburst has taken its toll tonight

fabulous game. well done wolves. Mick your the best thing to happen to Wolves in the last 5 years. Can you make my mom the captain for the next game

How long is this pain, misery and total embarrassment going to last ? I’ve been going to Molineux since 1969,and NEVER have been as embarrassed to be a supporter of Wolves as i am now.

Great performances tonight from
1 – Sam Vokes looked more mobile and won most things in the air
2 – Nenad Milijas played some beautiful passes when playing deep where he belongs
3 – the crowd (south bank) who were positive throughout. The 12,000 who stayed away from Sat were not missed

After playing Edwards, Milijas, Guedioura and Vokes, who all seemed to add an attaching spark to the team, I think Mike’s starting line up against City on Saturday will be:
Hennessey,
Stearman,
Johnson,
Berra,
Ward,
Hammill/Hunt,
Henry,
O’Hara,
Jarvis,
Doyle,
Ebanks-Blake.
Please discuss!!

Great performance I know it was 5-2 but fantastic effort from the lads, lets get behind the team next week especially and make molineux a fortress again. (A message for fickle fans, realise what Mick has done for the club and get behind the team for a change).

Absolutely Brilliant!!!!
I managed to get to the game and what a good game it was! 12,500 fans and not one boo!!! I would rather have 12k fans cheering than 25k non-fans booing! The players had no pressure and it showed. They also played well and some very promising performances.
O’Hara was back to his best and Elokobi had a good game. The midfield played well and een though the scor was 5 – 2 we took it to them a few times! Hunt was also good tonight. If I hae to criticise anything it would be the Keeper…. he was the weakest link and I think he should have saved the 3rd goal. He was also quiet and I think Hennessey commands his box very well and it was the only thing missing I felt tonight.
Good atmosphere and I hope this helps boost the players confidence! Also the banter between us and the city fans was funny.
Good game wolves!! see you against Wigan!
In Mick We Trust!!!

Some excellent football played by Wolves tonight. Our defending was woeful at times, but you can’t make too much of it when you look at how good and how fast City are. Their strikers are incredible. We looked very good for much of the game and would have swept many opponents away ourselves tonight. It just so happened we were playing the Barcelona of England tonight and couldn’t fully compete with the billionaires. I’ll be glad when financial fairplay comes in, as it will hopefully reduce the chances of clubs like Man City buying success and paying such ridiculous wages to hire the worlds greatest players.

Thats better
a bit of commitment passion, fire, well done Mick, Wolves and the fans tonight heres looking forward to the start of the rest of our season, dont expect anything from the Etihad Saturday but Wigan is a must win to put our season back on track

Even Man City’s second string team would be in the top 5 of The Premiership, so Wolves should take heart from this performance. They never gave up. Milijas played well, and O’Hara is starting to show glimpses of his end of last season form.
Look on the bright side, we conceded one less and scored one more goal than United!! ;)
That was a really entertaining game. Wolves never gave up and kept up some great pressure on City. The true difference was in the finishing, but when your facing a team,on form and who have more money than King Midas it was always going to be an uphill struggle.
Let’s hope we’ve fooled them into a false sense of security and scrap out a win this weekend. Come on you Wolves.

Wolves can’t compete with an in form Man City.
They did all anybody could ask them to do, they pushed for the whole game. Good effort!

Can’t fault the effort but class is class and we don’t have much.
If the score is any more in our favour at the weekend it will be a good result, but I suspect it could be worse.

A sorry picture of an empty grandstand!! At least it was less than United let past!! Hope we can keep it under a cricket score at the weekend.

How many goals do Wolves need to lose by on Saturday before McCarthy gets the sack? What chance is there that we will see a PL record defeat this weekend? William Hill were offering odds of 6 to 1 that McCarthy would be the first PL manager to get the sack, check the odds today and put some hard earned cash up.

The wolves side were a lot better than the previous one. What a good display they put on to the half filled ground. For the first twenty minutes we showed we can play well. Craddock, for me, is a far better player than either Johnson and shirt puller! Doherty is a solid player who is not in awe of big names and gets stuck in. Milijas and Adlene a good combo and young Hammill is coming on fine. We never gave up really and if that spirit remains we will be okay but I think we still need 2-3 additions to the squad of quality players. The difference between Wolves and City showed. There attacks and counter attacks were slick and their movement was a thrill to watch. Wolves on the other hand were again lacking in this slick movement an ideas. I suppose that’s what investing in a team can give you. Maybe Morgan pondered this for a moment between his pricey pie n bovril! Never mind, the ground’s coming on. Saturdays game may be a different kettle of fish! who know’s but i am not hopeful just realistic.
We can be proud of the team last night but i wonder how many of us are getting fed up of being ‘also rans’. Well done the lads you showed the spirit, the crowd were behind you.
Elokobi had a decent game but he was found wanting a few times and his passing was not brilliant on a few occassions. Henry, average I suppose, gave the ball away couple of times, albeit his team mates were not moving quick enough in to spaces, but that can be worked on. I wonder if last nights gate is a sign of what Morgan and Moxey can expect in future. Who knows? It migh be the boot up the arse they need.
Look forward to Saturdays game, but we need three points soon, maybe Wigan?
Come on you Wolves!

If Man city play out their skin like they did last weekend….the result of Man City 10 Wolves nil would not be a surprise.
And from other people are commenting…I wouldn’t be surprised if the ground starts looking empty if this form continues for home matches…after all why go see a team who aren’t good enough to make a decent show of it???

I think my Wolves team would be:
Welsh Wayne
Doherty
Johnson
Craddock
Elokobi / Ward
Hammil
Guedioura
O’Hara
Jarvis
Milijas
Doyle
I’d have Milijas just behind Doyle (whilst Fletcher is injured) and Doherty whilst Zubar is injured. Stearman gets turned too often.

On the plus side we did better than Man Utd against them!

I watched match on the box last night and it was our second string against their second string. We played pretty well, Milijas scored against what must be his fave opponents as he always scores against them, we should of had a clear cut penalty….and then 4 minutes of absolute class from Man City second team n we was buried 3-1 first half. Second half we drew 2-2 and must say when O’Hara came on he looked like the old O’Hara i grew to love…showed urgency, nice passing and scored 2 good goals. I hope we see this version of O’Hara saturday then maybe their first string wont have it so easy….but i do fear the result lol
Love da Wolves!!

Battling display with lots of positives.
Agree with comments that the crowd was not helped by the rift designed by Mick and key players, between the fans and the team.
Can any business afford to turn on its customers in the current economic climate?
Season Ticket prices may be lower next season due to more seats available than people willing to pay to be called an idiot.
Pleased that the South Bank were happy with fewer yet more positive fans…..not sure Mr Morgan will feel the same way!

I went tonight, thought the atmosthere was good, I know we lost but thought it was a spirited display, thought AG was great(not in your team THE SMIFFY, I think he has to be).
I thought milijas and guedioura played well and vokes and doyle worked well together up front.Would love to see them given a chance.
Defence is still the issue and the cover in front of them. Back four play too far apart to even have a chance of covering one another.
Vokes is showing how he can be a temporary replacement to Flecth and if we are going to play 2 wingers Vokes should start. I hate to admit it be Henry should also play then to get the ball down the wing.
On the flip side if we are playing Doyle on his own or Doyle and SEB then yesterday’s formation was more suited. Hunt on his own who can take players on and 3 attacking central Midfielders to get the ball into the box on the counter attack. Doyle will drift onto the Vacant wing anyway but SEB wont. Maybe play O’hara behind the strikers and Mijias and Guidderia behind. Dropping Henry.
We have a decent squad and plenty of options. Mick just needs to guts to drop his favourites not because they are playing bad but for the good of the formation. We just haven’t adapted to missing Fletch very well so he should really change things round a bit.
8 & 22 above- shame on you for the dreadful negativity. Add up the price of a couple of Man City players on the pitch and it’s more than the cost of Wolves team. It is not McCarthy’s fault that he can’t afford that type of player and he tries the best he can with resources available.
The result and the score do not matter. What does matter is that the players did everything they could and not only worked hard but showed some nice touches. As McCarthy acknowledged, there was some poor finishing which could have made a difference. We do not need to worry about results against the top teams as they will beat all around them, so what we have to do now is work on the tactics and formations that will beat the teams around and below us.
I’ve moaned a bit but after last night I will moan no more, it was a bad result but a fantastic effort. Well done, and well done to the crowd for staying positive throughout.
Fingers crossed.

We’re now prepared to put up will being THUMPED 5-2(and at home) – we say it is a good, honest performance – God help us! Manchester City never got out of second gear and still made us look totally inferior. Swansea made us look like schoolboys for 82 minutes and look how angry we got – so have other teams this season. MM is a decent enough man but let’s not fool ourselves he is not, and sadly never will be, a premiership quality manager. His record at THIS LEVEL speaks for itself! I’m totally against booing the man or worse, but facts are facts the only way we’re going is to the Championship. I’m not sure who could save our season – we seriously lack quality players: Morgan and Moxey are far more to blame than MM. Never mind ‘keep the faith!’

A good effort from the lads out there but City were just too good. To be able to make 11 changes from their derby match and include the likes of Dzeko, Nasri & Johnson. Their 5th goal was incredible pass & movement.
A few players i think staked a claim for a start at the weekend, Hunt, Milijas & Vokes in particular all played well. O’Hara did well when he came on & took his goal nice, 2 in 2 for him should boost his confidence.
Good support from the stands too.
Well, if Milijas, Gedioura & Craddock don’t get in the team from now on, then MM is the biggest numpty ever seen at Molineux!! They made a huge difference & actually made us look dangerous in attack. Adeleine was huge, he never stopped & helped to break up their midfield play, creating numerous openings. Nenad was his classy self again, his passing was superb & nine times out of ten the ball went forward (a rarity at Molineux these days!). Jody has still got it, might not be the quickest but his footballing brain makes up for that. I thought Dave Edwards had a reasonable game as well given that he’s not played regularly & has been out for a good while with injury. Even Sam Vokes looked more mobile & threatening. All in all, I think changes are now obvious & I hope that MM can be man enough to make them.

Dispite the result, which was probably innevitaable, the performance was good and so was the crowd. No boo-ing or anti-Mick hate.

Some observations from last night and based upon comments above:
1. The new stand looked nice with that little light on the top of the mast;
2. I enjoyed the entertainment at half time provided by Henry Hennessey and Hammill (football bowls for those that missed it);
3. It was nice to see some goals;
4. Hunt and Guedioura shouldn’t start as they gave the ball away too often, I don’t know what other people saw but their first touches and pass selection was one of the chief reasons we surrendered possession so easily;
5. De Vries? Really? Think I’m nearly as good as that;
6. Doherty looks good but shouldn’t be first choice as was exposed at times through inexperience;
7. Vokes is too slow for the premier league.
I would therefore go with the following on Saturday:
Wayne, Stearman *unfortunately*, Craddock, Berra, Ward, Henry, Hammill, Ohara, Milijas, Hunt/Jarvis, Doyle.
Based on last nights show,my team for Sat would be
Hennesey
Doherty
Johnson
Stearman
Ward
Guadioura
Henry
OHara
Milijas
Hunt
Doyle
Wingers will be a luxury we cant afford v City.
Stearman last chance saloon in his best position.
Berra never been good enough no improvement.

Great game last night, end to end stuff from both teams and how the linesman missed the handball i will never know.
Plus points would be Vokes, Guedioura, Ward and craddock. Milijas played well but was weak in covering at times and against City it left wide open spaces.
Team for Saturday would be Wayne, Ward, Johnson, Craddock, Doherty. Doyle ( in fornt of Doherty ) O’Hara, Guedioura, Milijas, Hunt with Vokes playing up front on his own. This would allow us to smother Midfield where we have been weak recently and break when we have a chance.
Looking forward to going to a ground i have not been to yet and supporting the lads, just hope Mad Mick can see past Henry, Berra and Stearman for a change… UTW

Well done lads, although the result would not ahve changed there were a lot of positives to take from last nights performance, particularly the lack of the ‘long ball’
On another topic I ask the question ‘When are the mindless idiots in the South Bank going to realise that they are serioulsy damaging our club’s reputation?’
Over the last three home games the following has occured:-
1) Karl Henry’s subsitution greeted by loud cheering
2) Loud renditions of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ and ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’
3) Standing ovation for the “mindless idiot” who ran on the pitch last night
What on earth are you doing????
Seems like whoever plays in defence the problems are the same. We have mainly the championship players that got us up three years ago plus Roger Johnson who is proving to be a mistake….. so who’s to blame ?
At least with less than 10,000 of our fans there the booing was a bit quieter…..wonder how that will look in the big new stadium. Bit embarrassing I would suggest.

8. I do wish people would stop mentioning O Neill, it aint gonna happen, Moxey does not like the bloke.
That’s the second string Man City sorted, now for their first team, worry not tho as we will have our first team out as well, you know, Berra, Stearman, Johnson….
Oh dear!

Tony, by league cup standards it was not a poor gate.
7,749 vs Millwall in the previous round. Last season, 10,284 and 11,516 vs Southend and Notts County respectively. It’s actually one of our better attendances in this competition in recent seasons. Admittedly, it was boosted by a full complement of away supporters, but it still doesn’t justify your conclusion that Mick’s outburst made fans stay away.
What was nice to (not) hear were boo’s and vitriol when we conceded. If all fans could remember this when we are not playing well in the league, it would help. By all means boo at the end of the game if we played badly and lost. Don’t do it during the game, because it only gives the opposition a boost and makes our players more nervous.

And AG puts in another great display…be warming the bench again at the weekend I dare say. I think Mick has done a fantastic job since he has been here and am truely greatful but it is clear he has now taken us as far as he can. Look at the money he has wasted. Get hughes in who is prooven at this level and will take us to the next level, not another relegation fight!!

A spirited performance but totally outclassed by the mega riches of Mansour City.
The British and Irish template is clearly not good enough to make any progress in the premier league therfore Mr Morgan must clearly address the lack of investment in playing staff made to date. The January transfer window will be a pivotal period if WE are to continue in the premiership, if he wants the stadium full then get some quality players in (Onuoha and Bridge for example) and reward the loyal support with affordable ticketing.
I give the upmost credit to Mick McCarthy who guided us back to the premier dreamland within the limited budget available unfortunatly the graft and shift ethic leaves us chasing shadows and doom beckons if not addressed in the immediate instant, the international break is almost upon us, how long can we continue in this manner.

46. Blake’s Heaven…..just for accuracies sake….it was the Swansea fans singing ‘you’re gonna get sacked in the morning’….not the Wolves fans.
On last night’s game, I didn’t see it so can’t really comment on the game as a whole. However the couple of goals I did see on Sky & the Beeb tended to show that our defending was again extremely suspect at times – an area where the club said that they were going to strengthen pre-season.

6 – The ‘anti-Mick’ chants “suggests” it kept fans away? With due respect, I think that’s more than a bit presumptuous, Tony.
The missing fans might be down to several factors such as:
Having 2 home games in just 4 days -that costs money! Then there’s the near-guarantee of having two reserve teams on view in this competition, so that aint a crowd puller, is it? Then there’s the fact we’re playing City twice in 3 days -and most fans would anticipate another 2 losses. Then there’s Sky TV, the local boozer (ask Jez, lol!) or internet coverage to choose from. Then there’s the awful football we saw versus Swansea, as well as our shocking, 6 game winless run to take into consideration (which is soon to be 8, it hurts to say). In short, I don’t think 99% of fans who WANTED to go were put off by Saturday’s nasty atmosphere -no, let’s face facts: they were THERE.
Want a genuinely good example of when fans stayed away? Think of the hooligan problems we’ve suffered in past years. Now, THAT kept folks away -but we still got much bigger gates than last night’s 12,000! So let’s not find excuses for the gate and instead look at it in a reasoned, logical fashion.
Anyway, due credit to our boys last night. We were just hopelessly outgunned -but most teams would be, in firness. Still, the players showed a bit of passion, a bit of willing and wore the shirts with a bit of pride, too. It’s all we can ask in the absence of multi-billionaire owners burning cash for fun at the Wolves. Good effort, lads, even if it was in vain. Let’s just hope we don’t get a soul-destroying thrashing at City because that side looks truly frightening.
Anyway, best of luck, me babbies. UTW.

We shouldn’t expect to get anything out of the next game other than a committed performance. I would like to see Jody play alognside Johnson. RJ would learn a thing or two about positional awareness and leadership. I would also like to see us keep possession a bit more especially when we take the lead. I liked the pairing of Milijas and Guadiora and it was nice to see us have a shot whenever in range. The most positive thing for me last night was “the never say die attitude”. Well done to all those that turned up and got behind the team. True supporters.

i was gonna write the same thing…doesnt matter who played well last night it wont affect the first team..
Elokobi player alright in the wrong position
for a while but then gave the ball away quite a lot.
The keeper WAS shouting at the players,,,a lot more than Hennessey does.
Id have Doherty over Stearman every time..
Yeah he got ripped a few times but look who he was up against and he wasnt put off at liverpool….he should defo play against teams like Wigan.
Craddock for Johnson or Berra is a must..
How about Stearman in his proper position with Craddock??
Ohara came on and played like last season…Henry came on and slowed the game down in my opinion…
Adelene ha to start for me…yeah he looses it every so often…BUT hes not scared to take players on, shoot or try and setup something INFRONT of him..(not behind or to the side of him)

Ran out of petrol after a 30 minute shift retrieving the ball after giving it away too often.
A rigid 4-4-2 with wingers has served its purpose at Molineux and it’s time to embrace a more flexible formation and recruit players to suit? No one seemed to pick up Adam Johnson when he moved inside to do all the damage?
Can’t fault the effort and plenty of plus points compared to Saturday’s performance, but the defensive frailties appear to be endemic throughout the squad.
DeVries for Hanneman looks a backward step – lets hope Hennessey stays fit.

The first three Man City goalscorers cost £71 million. Enough said about the vast gulf in resources. Great evening, who cares if the ground was half full, if the stayaways are the abuse throwers, stay away for ever PLEASE! 451 Saturday, Milijas extra midfielder. Henry, OHara, Doyle all showed renewed confidence. Well played Wolves and well said Moxey in the programme! Mick is going absolutely nowhere, get that in your thick skulls or stay away.

I note Moxey has put his head above the trench and supported MM! ‘Business as usual’ he is quoted in E & S. Hhhmm! Will it be though? A lot of revenue was lost last night by the lack of attendance. It must be worrying for him and Morgan if there is a repeat of that against Wigan.
Don’t count yer chickens Mr Moxey, the next two or three weeks will be telling! Whether you build the next stand or not will not matter a jot if we go down, you are leaking fans quicker than a seive mate. Carrying on with this tight lipped tight fisted attitude at your peril. if you want to progress, you have to invest! do i hear you shudder Moxey?

A good game and we played our part. We were positive with a good tempo and good passing even at 5-1 down which shows good spirit.
Defensively we were poor and cut open time after time but nice to see Craddock back at last.
Mick mistake in not keeping the Hoff or getting in a 4th striker of similar quality showed.
There were some great balls into the box and no one looking to get on the end of them.
Vokes is clearly not the answer and was anonymous once doyle came off.
nice to hear that Mancini spent time before the match signing autographs for wolves fans. Mick has a lot to learn about public relations.
Moxley pre match interview about a minority of disenchanted fans is deflecting from the obvious. We are not winning games and the numbers of unhappy fan will only increase.
I dont expect a result a man city but I do expect a performance like today against Wigan.

Well simple minds certainly have low / no expectation.
It appears the Happy clapper brigade are glad to just be at the game and never win!
Well I’m sure the board miss the revenue :)
Anyway, All of the real fans will be back for the mighty Wigan, complete with an opinion and a loud voice.
So if you expect me to cheer a poor performance then dream on.
Until Mick goes there will be no happy clapping:0)
Mick out to get my support, must beat Wigan or else the happy clappers will cry again.

Dynamo Wolf – I agree with your team selection but I’d put hunt ahead of Jarvo who I’d have on the bench. It is so obvious that Stearman is not ready for the premiership. He ought to be playing in the championship as a centre back, getting the experience and confidence to then play in the premiership later. Send him out on loan and see how he does! Get more youth players involved Micky! You know who for starters! On the right wing hint hint….

did’nt go to the game last night nothing to do with saturdays game or the mick issues, the reason being moxeys aggresive pricing policy 20 quid for me 5 quid for my son after paying 15 quid for 2 against millwall the e-mail from the club said 50% reduction in ticket prices but did’nt mention that reduction was against a categorey a game in the premiership.when are the club going to realise they are going to lose a whole generation of fans with ridiculous over pricing for cup games.having said thought we played well and come out of the game with a lot of positives

And to all you shouting for O’Neill – He wasnt universally popular at Villa, being accused of sticking by his favourites regardless of form, playing people out of positions, baffling substitutions etc etc. Just be careful what you wish for, and be thankful that we’ve got a Chairman and CEO who don’t pander to the mindless few.

Does this mean that we are better than Manchester United by two clear goals? I always suspected it but it’s nice to get it confirmed.

kolarov, toure, zabaleta, de jong, johnson, nasri, dzejo aint exactly reserves and wud easily get in most sides.
wolves still played doherty, elokobi, vokes, edwards who aint really 1st chioce either.
played alot better, pace, purpose, more ideas going forward – alot down to milijas and guedioura -edwards left doherty exposed 2 often by not tracking kolarov who played like a winger.
if nothing else surely that showed that milijas, guedioura and craddock shud get a decent run in the team (not just a hiding away to man city) o hara and hammill looked ok when they came on as well.

Really think Mick needs to put stearmen, berra and henry on the bench. I think they all have a place in a our current squad until we find better, but just not in the first team. Think Doherty, guedioura and craddock deserve a go. not to bothered whcih of the attacking players he picks as i think all of them can do a good job. Its defence that we need to improve on, and a centre back is still a nesesity in January as it was 18 months ago. Shows how bad some of the others are, when we aren’t mentioning the ‘left back’ like we all were in the summer!

For what was largely a Wolves second string team, I thought we played quite well at times. We were certainly not disgraced despite the scoreline. However, once City upped their game the result was never in doubt.
Nevertheless there were some plus points to be noted. All the players looked as though they were fully committed. No sign of poor moral or dissention.
I thought Guedioura had a decent game. Not all what he tried to do came off, but at least kept going till the end.
It will be interesting to see what team is selected for Saturdays game. The likelihood is that Wolves will revert to a 4-5-1 formation. If that is the case I would expect both Guedioura and Hunt to start with Doyle as the lone striker.

Mick told me his team for Saturday is as follows:
Hennessey
Stearman
Johnson
Berra

Henry
Milijas

An enjoyable game – end to end and a chance to see players who SHOULD be starting in the first team not coming on as subs in the 80th minute.I had hoped that the defence would be more organised with Craddock back….it wasn’t . Sadly,I cannot agree with those who said he played well . If you look at the 5 goals , he was either not to be seen or showed slow reactions . Nice bloke and all that but he is not the answer to our defensive woes . Give him another chance with Johnson ( MM won’t drop his skipper) instead of Berra and the argument for him starting regularly should be settled .I hope I’m wrong . We still have a future in the Premiership if the players are used correctly with decent tactics.Good luck on Saturday.
Up the Wolves .

So now i’ve put my medals on the table and told you all how good a manager i am i can reflect on 2 games where 20 players have been used and offer the following team for saturday based on those on form and a shape that might just keep the score down-
Hennessey
Doherty,Craddock, Johnson, Ward
Hammill,Guedioura,Edwards,Milijas,Hunt
Doyle
O’Hara on the bench for a 20 minute cameo.

Just a question for all Wolves fans who went last night – How many of that team do you expect to play against Man. City on Saturday?
I ask because we all know that what we see is totally different to what McCarthy sees and I would not be at all surprised to find only 1 or 2 changes from the side which stole a point against Swansea!
Should that happen then really McCarthy would have dug himself into a big hole and 1 he would probably not get out of without some help – but would anyone come to his rescue?

I come in peace.
As an interested observer last night, i saw a Wolves team at last playing with no fear.
Some encouraging performances, and in truth, if the same level of belief, commitment and performance levels had been displayed against Swansea, you would have beaten them.
For those angry/dissapointed about the RESULT last night, Man City are currently on a different planet to all else.
If Wolves can play with the same mindset and commitment in the league gamdes as they did yesterday, they will be just fine.

Sounda strange given the score line but I thought we played well. Defence is still a worry, Doherty was caught out pushing too far forwards on several occasions, but he does show promise. Elokobis best position is centre back, what a tackle in the first half to deny a certain goal.
Team for sat:
Hennessy
Stearman
Johnson
Craddock

Play 4-3-2-1 and try and stifle their midfield. Big ask but worth a shot.

So many blogs, comments on the booing / substitutions /Micks reaction/ missing fans last night, that some basic facts are being overlooked :
1) From my observation the fans were very supportive on Saturday ( as we always are )and things only turned hostile with the substitutions.
2)The unlikely 2 goal comeback then masked everything which had gone before.
3) This meant Mick was spared having to explain what went wrong for the first 80mins when we were absolutely dire!
4)Then Mick keeps the controversy going and thereby avoids the question of why we are back in a relegation struggle and no improvement on last season.

68 – Lol!!! If only WERE better than the Mancs, PeteNuts, eh? And yes, you’re right, mate: It’s got to be ‘Mick out’. It’s nothing personal, it’s just the way it is. There’s no room for sentimentality in this game if you want to progress. His results speak for themselves -as does the wage bill that amply rewarded him.
76- Lol!!! Dry but witty, Noisy. Nice one ;-)
Regarding Post 77 -and translated into the Queen’s English for the benefit of our overseas visitors- I think Ashley actually meant to say:
“Would those fans wishing to express opinions that may be contrary to the views that I, myself hold, please kindly refrain from asserting one’s democratic right to do so?”
Chill…just a bit of fun, Ashley ;-)

The second string had more urgency, closing down and pace than the first team. Mick has to look at his entire squad and stop picking players who are clearly out of form.
Forget the result and even Citys second string is a superior team. Our boys did well last night

I’ve been supporting Wolves since… Who cares?
Football has changed, just in case you hadn’t noticed. Clubs are now owned by billionaires who can buy who they like and pay what they like, meaning that Man City are the new Galacticos or whatever they call them in Spain. You’ll have to get used to the fact we can’t compete with these teams. It’s not embarrassing, it’s life.
Also, anyone actually placing bets on Wolves sacking MM are pathetic and way more embarrassing than anything Mick does or says. Call yourself a Supporter? You make me sick! Now do one down the albion. Traitor!
Enjoyable game but lets not forget that Wolves are a Premiership team and Man City played second strings and youngsters and won easily against a team unable to defend. Is 2-5 an acceptable result when the object of the exercise is to compete. At least the happy clappers enjoyed the quiet and the space.
I managed to go to the game last night and I was glad there were no boos for Mick. I think the fans realise we were playing a very good City outfit, despite it being their second string. To have Johnson, Nasri & Dzeko in your second string is frightening. Played well the first 20 minutes especially but the class shone through the end. A couple of impressive performances which will hopefully include a start for Guedioura and Hunt the weekend. COYW!

Oh just want to say the reason i stayed away n watched it on Sky rather than go to match is the horrible atmosphere league home games produce. I have my worries over certain things but would never give out unneccessary abuse to manager or players during a game…thats not what i paid for my season ticket to hear. I paid it to SUPPORT my team not knock them to the ground.
But from what i saw on TV and heard on this board it was a nice friendly atmosphere from fans, including good natured banter with man city fans…well done those who went :) see you all vs Wigan…
PS I said in earlier post it was 3-1 to man city and 2-2 second half…i correct it to we lost 2-1 second half…oh well tried to find positive in the score line n failed lol
Love da Wolves!!

Well done! all of you “Boo Boys” and disgruntled, loyal, passionate fans.
This is exactly what is needed.
Let’s talk with the withdrawal of our hard earned cash and let the appeasement brigade have there way, for now at least.
A good performance last night, the kind of performance that has been sadly missing for many of our recent games to inferior opposition.
We do need to understand though that the boys have a lot to gain by playing well against the top teams, perhaps even catching someones eye and getting a big money transfer.
That kind of opportunity does not exist playing against QPR or Swansea.
So, I offer this. Most of them are Mercenaries.
Just an observation of the world we now live in.
Finchy I doubt very much that Mr Moxey would endorse your preference for 12K fans cheering rather than 25K fans booing – anyway what we saw last night was sadly about as good as it will ever get at Molinuex under the present executive and management regime. Wolves tried hard last night but class quality and MONEY prevailed. Our problem is that when we are up against the 3 or 4 other teams in the premiership at our level they seem to try harder – remember it was freak results against the big teams that kept Wolves “up” last season not results against fellow strugglers. All seem set for another dismal season no matter how much the boo boys turn up the volume.

I went last night & enjoyable it was too.
Here are a few facts
We were by far the better side for half a hour.
The ‘die hards’ turned out & were great
We should have had a penalty
Savic should have been sent off
The last 2 points happened because city’s £100m team were on the back foot against our 2nd string upstarts
We should have made it 2-3, what Hunty doing???
Hunt, guerdioura, Doherty, Ohara, Hamil, Doyle & especially Milijas were great.
Play like that against Wigan & we will win, simple.
Message to the faithful, it doesn’t matter what happens Saturday, our great club can’t afford a turnout like the Swansea game, turnout in good voice against Wigan & back the boys to the hilt!!!!!
