Don Goodman’s take on the Molineux ‘mob’ who want Mick McCarthy out
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 4:05PM BST.
Wolves’ future rests not just on boss Mick McCarthy’s resistance to the mob but the bravery of his players.
That comes from a man who should know and remains uniquely-placed to pass comment on the return of Molineux’s hate culture – former striker and now Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman.
The 45-year-old knows what it is like to be down in that home dressing room when Molineux is in poisonous uproar and what today’s players now have to cope with.
He said: “Somebody handed me a ‘stat’ pack before Saturday’s game which said Wolves hadn’t lost three successive home games since Mark McGhee’s day, which would have put me at the club.
“I couldn’t remember that – but I do remember the venom that was directed towards Graham Taylor before him. It is hard to deal with.
“I was playing in Graham’s last game against Charlton’s 10 men. It finished 0-0 and I had a header which hit the woodwork in the last couple of minutes. I’ve always wondered how history might have changed had that gone in.”
