Wolves captain Roger Johnson believes Molineux has become ‘hostile’

Wolves captain Roger Johnson today claimed Molineux has become a “hostile” place for Wolves to play.

Manager Mick McCarthy suffered abuse, while Johnson had to endure songs calling for Jody Craddock to take his place in response to the captain’s own struggle for form during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Swansea.

The level of abuse suggests the return of the ‘Molineux Factor,’ which was blamed for holding the club back before McCarthy’s arrival.

Johnson said: “It’s very hostile – we were trying to keep the ball, playing from side to side and we were being booed for it. Some of the shouts I heard were below the belt.

“We don’t want to hear them and it’s not on. The fans have got short memories – they can have a pop at me for saying it, but we don’t need that.”

Mr Johnson needs to remember that we pay a lot of money to watch him and his mates play very bad football

We have a right to an opinion. The best thing he can do is shut up and concentrate on justifying his ridiculously high pay packet

Well said Roger, some Wolves fans do have a short memory – Under MM we have progressed more than at any point in the last 50 years, but thats all forgotten in the case of a few bad games. I for one hope MM is at the helm for a good few years yet – success only comes in two ways – long term stability or vast amounts of cash, and I for one am glad that the board are sticking by MM. We won’t win every game, and have to set our expectations inline with the stature of the club and squad….for me this is premier league stability over the next few years. The actions of some Wovles ‘fans’ hardly make Wolves an attractive team to join/stay with. Poor Roger must have wandered what he came here for! At the end of the day WE ARE WOLVES and the team need every single one of us to be behind them, to support them, encourage them and show them that we are worthy of their efforts on the pitch and off it. Over to you……..

Although we played poorly on Saturday, I cannot see how it helps anybody to have the crowd booing their own players and manager during the game. No wonder we have the worst reputation for being fickle amongst opposition fans.
I was disgusted by some of the jeers and comments I heard around me. As the article says,it looks like a return to the bad old days where our home support helps the opposition and hinders and restricts our own players.

The team needs all the support it can get right now to help us through this bad patch. Anybody who just wants to boo and jeer – keep away or, better still, clear off to Sandwell and boo them!

Our esteemed Club Captain should take a leaf out of Kevin Doyle’s book. “Everyone is frustrated and it’s not nice and you don’t blame the fans for being frustrated …”. Of course fans are frustrated, watching yet another desperate relegation struggle unfolding, having been told upon survival in May that the club set it’s sight on two to three deals that should see us reach for the next level. At the same time, we see a manager who apparently only wants happy clapping-fans, having for years acted aggressively towards fan-criticism of players clearly not up to it. I certainly do not support booing and abuse during matches, but can’t help feeling that the manager and some players bring this upon themselves. For how long shall we have to keep up with sub-standard players in defence (“McCarthy ruing defensive mistakes…”) and some players having their names set in stone on the team sheet while others are dropped for ages after an indifferent half? The club should clarify if it only wants McCarthy supporters to attend the home-matches.

Shut up Johnson. You will never ever be the player Jody is. I do not ever recall Craddock slating the fans. You have only been here a couple of months and your form is terrible. Who is responsible for the poor defending that led to the goals – certainly not the fans!! Even John Toshack and Dave Jones severely criticised your positioning, saying they would never put up with that.

The fact that the game was turned round despite the criticism shows that you are talking garbage. Clear off back to Birmingham.

Unfortunately Roger, the goals aren’t on the sides, which probably explains why we are leaking so many goals.
It might explain why your side-kick Berra was stood by the halfway line when the second goal went in.
Dearey me, I thought he was supposed to be a defender.
Did you watch Norwich Saturday night Roger?
What a breathe of fresh air that was after watching you and your team earlier.
But then it’s ALL down to management isn’t it!!
All week you are coached to go sideways and backwards, so when the opposition score the managers game plan has gone out the window.

Don Goodman was right on Sky, when he remarked that Wolves fans had to take a share of the blame for poor performances on the field. It has been that way for donkeys’ years sadly.

What Johnson has to realise is we pay his wages! And on that performance on Saturday we should be able to give his wages to local charities. He was atrocious, the fans have every right to condem that team because they were pathetic. Yes I agree the played side from side but the word that just opitmises his sentence is we tried? They couldn’t put more than 2 passes together! I disagree with the booing of McCarthy. But I agree with the booing of the players! If he was to work in any other frame of career which was customer based he’d be payed to take abuse! And on £60000 a week he can sit down at the end of the night and take what ever we want to give him. He was at fault for both of Swanseas goals and the calls for Jody Craddock made me giggle but also made me think of how solid he actually is! He deserved to here that? Yes fans can call you heroes one second and villains the next because we have that power too! If he doesn’t like it he can go and play for a lower league team like he did before? Or go back to blues and enjoy second rate football doesn’t bother me! His attitude reminds me of Freddy Eastwood. Big ego huge reputation and so far he’s struggling to deliver.

Whilst agreeing that it’s not on to abuse the players while they are playing – and I believe most of the abuse was aimed at MM for his stubborness in the way he persistently saya it’s not time to panic and change things. It was nearly 6 defeats on the bounce – change has to be made. Mr Johnson also has to accept that despite his clainm that they tried to keep the ball and play it from sisde to side (forwards would be better mind)Swansea had over 60% of the possession and they were the away side. I will support Mr Johnson and the rest of the team like I have for many years and will not boo them whilst they are on the pitch, but, like I have said elsewhere I have th right to be critical on these boards (assuming the moderators allow me to be critical !!)

I agree with what our Captain is saying but I can’t help but think he needs a bit of PR advice at the moment.

I’ve been critical of the manager in the past and stand by my opinion that, unfortunately, he’s taken the club as far as he can. That’s not being disrespectful of what he’s achieved. He will go down in the history books, quite rightly, as, first and foremost – a success.

However the time has come for a change because of a number of key decisions he’s got wrong. Giving Johnson the armband for one.

Johnson is certainly not living up to the billing he got when he signed on the dotted line. For me, he’s not a captain. He is a vocal, confident organiser but that doesn’t mean he’s the right person to have the armband.

He’s not playing well, he’s new to the squad and I think, at times, his attitude has done little to inspire the team or endear him to the fans.

This is the second time in a few weeks he’s had a pop at the supporters. For me, both justified to some extent, but surely he needs to either keep it shut or tone down the strength of this comments.

A major, major part of the success of this club in recent years has been the spirit and bond that’s been built up between fans and supporters. Our captain’s comments recently seem to be taking a ‘them against us’ type stance. In the short term and long term that isn’t going to help anything!

Sorry Roger but you are wrong. The fans weren’t having a go because the team were trying to hold onto the ball – the reality is that Swansea held onto the ball and no Wolves players were even pressuring them to ge it! We need to get the ball before we try to hold onto it! Coming out in the press and slamming the fans is not going to help any harmony within the club and it’s supporters. People were chanting for Jody Craddock because your confidence appears to be shot and the fans want to see changes in personel to make a difference. How would you feel if you were sitting on the bench watching a defence conceed 2 goals a game – surely you would want to get on the pitch to make a difference??

Then to top it off having a go at them when they’re not happy with your schoolboy defending and lack of leadership!

2 points from 7 games – is that form not worthy of some changes?

    Bob’s been saying it all along and was slated after the good start to the season, but the same weaknesses have resurfaced;

    - Poor defence and lack of pace at the back
    - Too many players out of position
    - Ball lumped up to 2 small players and not retaining the ball
    - Wingers not up to the task
    - Crab playing in midfield
    - O’Hara believing own press
    - Squad too small to make changes
    - Vokes not given a chance: he changed the game by winning the ball in the air
    - Hammill belongs in Championship
    - Ward ripped to pieces by pacey winger (again!!)

And to top it off Jez too busy running the Birmingham Half Marathon to do sack Mick on Sunday morning!! I saw him walking (on my way home after the race) at the 10 mile mark and told him to get rid of Mick.

I was appalled by the reactions of some of the fans, when MM made the substitutions on Saturday. Its MM’s job to put on who he thinks fit and when he thinks fit, if the crowd don’t like it then tough, he (and not them) is the manager. MM did himself no favours when he allowed the fans comments to get to him and swore at them, he knows darn well that in this game, once you lose the fans your in big trouble. Having said that, to many players make all sorts of upbeat comments through these pages prior to the match, and more often than not these upbeat intentions disappear as soon as the players step onto the pitch. So much so that numerous fans have commented on these forums that the players should put up or shut up, I’m very surprised that MM hasn’t banned them from making these pre match comments! I think MM did a good job getting us into the Premiership, and keeping us here for the last two seasons, but, and it is a big but, this game is entirely results driven, if you don’t get the right results then inevitably you lose your job. I admit that I have become more and more disillusioned with the team, it started mid way through last season! We do not seem to have (or been capable of) making any steady progress, in fact I believe we have actually gone backwards. I think that MM should resign as I would hate to see him sacked after what he has done for us over the last five years. At least by resigning he can leave with his dignity and reputation relatively intact. Failing that, then how about he moves upstairs as Director of Football or some such fancy title that clubs seem to invent these days? If the powers that be insist on keeping MM as manager, then for Gods sake give him a large enough transfer fund, so that we can get some class players (more than one this time!!) in during the January window!!

It is completely irrelevant to whats going on at Molineux this season. If you dont want to pay his wages then either stay away or if you have a season ticket then dont renew. Otherwise, listen to what he says, think about the effect it has on the team and try and use your brains to see how we, as supporters can support our team better through a difficult patch. There was booing at Mad Mick for his inability to have a plan to combat Swansea in the first half (do they do any research into how they play???) and also taking ages to make the subs, I disagreed with taking Hammill off but the subs worked in the end.

Sorry Roger but the fans have had enough of players under-performing, saying in the media ‘we will do this’ or ‘ we will do that’ but end up doing next to nothing. The fans also do not subscribe to Mick McCarthy’s total disrespect of their views or advice because he is so pigheaded he believes he is the only one who knows anything about football!
YOU as a player do not like to hear the kind of derision currently being handed out and that’s fair enough BUT the team is not performing as it should and 5 successive league defeats has made fans wonder what the hell is going on.
The shouts for McCarthy’s head have not suddenly occurred this season, the fans have been frustrated for some time now with him. If it is not his choice of players, it is his substitutions and if not that then his tactics or his comments such as ‘ … is the first player on the teamsheet’, the list just goes on.
Yes it could be said he got it right on Saturday but he was damn lucky his substitutions came off (but why wasn’t the team that finished, the one to start?). Any other team but Swansea would have shut up shop and successive league defeat no.6 would have resulted – And you wonder why Wolves fans are so hostile?
The way to change the atmosphere is for you players to sort yourselves out and get results. Defeats are part of the game but not 5 successive league defeats, that is totally unacceptable unless that is you all want to find yourselves playing Championship football next season and with a ground half empty!
Still, you wouldn’t have so much hostility then would you for there would be far less people to shout comments at the players and at Mick McCarthy – if he was still at Molineux by then that is!
Finally what Mick McCarthy has achieved at Wolves is history. This is a results game and history wins nothing but results will keep us in the Premier League and hopefully Roger Johnson you understand that?

So we should play Jody in the league next Saturday against some of the fastest forwards in the country? I don’t thnk so.

Johnson has not done well but slagging him or anybody off during the game doesn’t help. Confidence is not high just now but mutual recriminations just makes it worse all round. The whole defence has got the jitters not just one player

Mick will have to decide who he plays and I guess the Carling Cup ofers a few opportunities to experiment. people can be ‘rested’ not dropped. Zubar used to be a centre back and it would be good to see whether his inclusion in a central role offers us anything. Anybody know how Stephen Myakolo is doing out on loan? Matt Doherty also seems to offer a different option.

I also think we need to revisit (yet again!) ther issue of 4-4-2. I just don’t think we can play it. At the very least we ought to have one forward in a less advanced position. But I am not a football manager and would have failed to get us where Mick has got us in the past 5 years.

I think he has a point. Morgan, Moxey and Mick have built a fantastic business based on loyalty, good decision making and long term investment. I see no reason why this should not continue. They haven’t become a bad management team overnight just because the team is going through a bad patch. Of course there are the usual football manager experts who think they know so much more. Frankly, I respect your right to an opinion but I regret that you have been given such an enormous forum on which to put it.

Johnson said: “It’s very hostile – we were trying to keep the ball, playing from side to side and we were being booed for it. Some of the shouts I heard were below the belt.

Did anyone see Wes Hoolahan for Norwich at Anfield on Saturday evening? Very rarely did he play a backward or sideways pass. He was always looking to go forward and be positive. I also saw the comments of O’Hara “The fans didn’t like the changes but they had the desired effect, enabling me to push further up and be in the right place to score. That’s not luck. That’s good management”

Surely good management is O’Hara playing further up field in the first place. The trouble is Mick doesn’t think thats his position, and that does concern me.

I agree with Johnson……..yes he didn’t play very well, but it’s never going to help the confidence of him or his team-mates giving him a load of abuse.

Fans of other teams at my work think our fans were a disgrace at the weekend. And I agree with them. I didn’t enjoy the performance of the team on Saturday, but I enjoyed the performance of our fans even less.

And the Swansea manager is right saying we should have more respect for Mick.

Thank goodness we never listened to Bob Wolf and got the failed manager Ince in.

This is taken from this article below. If you read it in full. he actually says hes not doing his job at the minute.

‘We were struggling because confidence was low after five defeats on the bounce but the gaffer changed things, we scored twice to end that run and we got a point. They booed when he made the changes but I hope they are looking at what happened and asking themselves honestly who was right in the end.
‘Fans are fickle and in the gaffer’s case they have short memories. He was a hero when we started the side with three wins on the trot and when he kept the club up last season. Yet here they are calling for him to be sacked.
‘They can have a pop at me, no problem, because I’m not up to scratch at the moment and accept that I need to start doing the job I was brought in for. You have to accept a bit of hostility when you are making mistakes, but the sort of things aimed at the boss were not nice to hear when you know how much work he puts into the club.’

Can you please do me a favour and watch your performance and the teams against West Brom and Swansea.
Then please somehow forget you were involved in these game’s and then see what you make of the performances of certain players.
R.Johnson if you were on the bench and watching those performances, would you not feel, that a change of personal is needed?
Would you thank your Manager for keeping you off the pitch when the defenders on it were making Basic errors week in week out?
Roger the fans are on your back because you have been very poor since your arrival.
Yes the first two games you looked good but this was more too do with the opponents just not turning up!
Hence why I never got carried away,in this league their are teams with inexperienced Managers and have spent less yet they seem to be able to perform like a “FOOTBALL TEAM”.
We in some matches have looked “DIRE” and lost as individuals and as a team.
Wolves fans are not the only fans in the country who express frustration this is done at all clubs.
Clubs that are winning week in week out still get fans on their backs!!

I’m not sure what booing your own side actually achieves. It’s hardly going to encourage them and improve confidence.

I like many in the crowd was perplexed at the substitutions. Not so much Jarvis, who deserved to be taken off, but Hammell seemed to be the one forward player trying to do something. However, McCarthy was proved right.

I sincerly hope that McCarthy remains manager of Wolves. I really do not want a return to the days when we seemed to be part of a managerial merry-go-round.

Surely the way forward is to concentrate on improving confidence and start playing football again. I don’t know what has happened at the club but the lack of desire, getting back to defend, chase and harrying was non-existent at times on Saturday.

What MM needs to do is start players who have the desire and are proud to put on the shirt. Too many players are not up to it at the moment JARVIS for example should not be playing as he hasno confidence and spirit at the moment. GUEDIOURA & MILIJAS MUST START!
STEARMAN is not a full back so get someone in who knows how to defend. Stick with Hammill as he will come good.
BERRA is lacking in so many things at this level I don’t know why he is playing.
We really need a stronger backbone as at the moment we are leaking in goals all over the place.

Bottom line is the managert has to take the blame as it is he who chooses the players in the first place.

Watching the game on ESPN2 in the USA, I did not get the senses that the fans were booing from the kickoff. They certainly ( and rightly) got frustrated after our first half display which was simply atrocious. I am not in favor of booing and slagging off the players as it is wasted energy. However, given our overall lack of results over two and a bit seasons at this level the fans are well within their rights to be turned off by what they are seeing on and off the pitch.

There seems to be no end in sight with yet another season of relegation threatening at our door and no legitimate progress to a higher level. Johnson has been made the Captain but surely he cannot deny his own performances have been way off base.

Our defending individually and as a team was unacceptable. Johnson was at fault on the first goal with his Kung- Foo kick instead of staying on his feet. And against Newcastle he was sold a simple dummy move by Gutierrez. These basic failings are not down to the fans but down to Johnson.

The interview with Doyle and OHara after the game on Saturday was very telling. Their body language and what they did not say suggested a lot is wrong behind the scenes. Doyle was not excited by his goal and Johnsons body language during the game suggested he would rather be somewhere else. If that is the case then Johnson needs to be honest and put in a transfer request.

We face City twice this week and after their pummeling of United yesterday this could be a very rough week for our team. At the very minimum the players have to at least show some fighting spirit as we cannot match City in terms of skill or creativity.

Whatever we think of the management we need to support the players on the pitch. I firmly believe there will be a point when management must ring the changes. there is too much at stake to doggedly stick with a management style that is not producing results.

Too many wolves players have been under the cloud, too many wolves players dont get a look in.
This is the main reason for the frustration, players need to be changed after such inept performances and if this was done you will find the fans would show more tollerance with the knowledge the manager is trying to do something about the situation being created in front of us.

They are not man enough to own up to their failings.. We need a fresh start with people who are willing to work with the fans, or at least not abuse us for having an opinion. In the mean time bring back Jody Craddock, he always gets us out of a mess.. I do see Mick losing his job with the Manchester City games coming up.. Look at the team which Mick inherited and look where we are now before slagging him off, he’s doing his utmost as are the players, hopefully this result will be the kick up the backside and that littl bit of luck we needed to turn our season. We seemed to missing that final ball again but I the players can’t win, we boo them when they keep posession so they lump it forward and lose it then we boo again! I will say though that I think it’s because we were playing a team who come up through the Playoff’s why it had such a reaction, there a good footballing side (which a lot of our fans wouldn’t appreciate) but they did make us look poor, fair enough if it was a Man Utd but we should be beating teams like Swansea, definitley need to cut out the defensive errors which seem to be costing us big time. And we are renowned for pressing the ball which we didn’s seem to do on Saturday.

I would certainly have him as the CAPTAIN as he is a true “WARRIOR”.
He was very dignified in his behaviour after the rollickings he suffered at the hands of the fans, even though majority of it was not “DIRECTED” at him it was for “NUMPTY”.
He as gone out again and performed better in terms of breaking up play,in my opinion he should be one of our central defenders as the lad can tackle, above all he as shown more restraint in the way he tackles showing he as learnt from the last two seasons.
Karl got alot of stick from oppossing players and fans for being a “THUG” wich he never was,but he still recognised were he needed to improve and he as done by being in control of his tackling.

Roger Johnson is not good enough for the prem and he`s beginning to realise this so he`s trying to deflect his own massive inadequacies by speaking out against the fans.
If he`s no good then thats not his fault, its just the way it is. The fault lies with McCarthy, he pursued him and spent big money on him without doing his homework. Fact is Johnson was poor last season without Dann, so if we buy any Birmingham centre halfs we buy Dann.
Woy down the road meanwhile notices that Northern Irelands skipper and Ipswichs supporters player of the years contract is expiring in June. So he tells him if he wants to test himself at the highest level theres a place he`ll be welcome. So McCauley exercises his right under the bosman ruling and Hodgson nips in and gets a no nonesense centre half to put next to Olson, all for nil pounds.
Question is did MM or anyone in our scouting dept. know about this guy, and did they know his contract was up in June?
McCauley is just an example by the way, there are a lot of players slipping through the net because I don`t think anyone at the Molineux does the proper groundwork.

We were lucky on Saturday, nothing more – Swansea switched off and we never gave up. The subs were irrelevant in my view. But, yet again, I keep saying there is a lack of method and direction in the team – we have eleven headless chickens on that pitch most of the time and that is pure and simply down to two men, MM and TC.
And RJ should remember what the Blouse supporters said about him last season – seemed disinterested and was caught sleeping on more than a few occasions…..there’s a pattern here somewhere. I think JC should get a run back at centre half.

Let’s face it… compared to other supporters around the country, the Old Gold army have always been a pretty fickle lot.

I’ve long been mystified at the eagerness of the boo boys to berate individual players or the team in general and find myself embarrassed when it happens.

Sure, ‘you pay your money and have your say’ – I get that, but booing your own team 20 minutes into a game doesn’t provide the ideal playing experience and we’re surprised when they falter.

I’m surprised at Johnson’s readiness to speak out on the matter – surely he hasn’t earned the right to be the voice of the club – not yet anyway? My opinion is that Mr Johnson’s confidence outweighs his ability at the moment and he’s become a little wrapped up in the inflated price tag he commanded.

This season is likely to be a long, long trek with some undoubted low points but five years ago we were booing them in the Championship, so let’s be thankful and get behind them with a little faith.

I know not everyone cannot be satisfied, but we have come to the end of our tether! This fan frustration is the result of the bull eminating from Moxey, MM, and lack of investment from an owner who is more like Bob the Builder! He is more interested in building houses on Compton than the inept team. We do feel aggreived, The amount of money it costs to watch such underperforming overpaid fops is unreal! The owner says nowt, Moxey says nowt! Wolves have a brilliant fan base! when we were in the fizzy pop we had gates bigger than more then half the premiership. If the new ground goes ahead anddecent players are invested in then Morgan will fill that new ground week in, week out. The fans attitude has not suddenly sprung up, it the culmination of months, years of false hope and total lack of investment in the team! In this league you have to spend money to achieve, okay some teams do not spend a lot but like Blackpool etc they go back down.
The fans here are, IMO, the golden nugget to the funding of most of the Mol coffers. Give us a team and management to rave on about Mr Morgan. We know it will not happen overnight but if you do reconstruct and invest we will be right behind you. If we want to grow into a huge club then lets get going in the right direction. Players should keep quiet at the moment as they will only be shot down in flames.
The situation will only get worse as MM continues to be in charge if we do not raise the game. I have been a fan all my life and grew up in Wolvo. Only want to see us do well and aim for europe. You do have the fan base, it is achievable!

Remember when we lost to Southampton 6 – 0.
This was the press response – “Have you heard the one about the team which lost 6-0 and were applauded from the pitch?

Twenty-four hours later, and it would have been passed off as an April Fool.

Believe it, it’s true. And those Wolves fans so often derided for so-called fickleness and eagerness to criticise should today be taking a bow”.

No booing, no jeering, a good display outdone by a better team on the day.

Let’s do it again and see what happens.

If we join the “happy clappers” and are still in jeopardy come early bird renewal, then let Moxey know what we feel in no uncertain terms.
We cannot then be blamed for the clubs’ dire league position should that be the case. At the moment all the ‘Booers’ are doing is giving the club an excuse for the poor performances.

I have real sympathy fro Roger Johnson who remains a quality player struggling for his best form. It is the job of every wolves fan to help him find that form.

He is also the Captain and it is his job to represent the views of the dressing room however good or bad they may be.

The Craddock chants could just have easily have been meant for Berra who surprisingly is escaping criticism but must take his share of the blame for increasingly woeful displays at the back. Craddock however is likely to be exposed for pace especially against the likes of silva and aguero and whilst I would not rule out change, maybe seeing Zubar come in either at centre back or right back with Stearman moving to the centre, our options are limited and we need to recognise that a change of personnel is just not possible mid transfer window so we have what we have and need to suport them in their efforts to improve.

It is the fans job to recognise that the manager is doing the best he can (and he has achievements to be proud of that we have all enjoyed)and get behind him and help play those players who are struggling back into form.

No manager/player will succeed against open hostility and ultimately it will be the same fans who lose out as it will be them that have not done all they could to avoid the worst.

    Hi all.
Just thought I would put my opinion in.

Let’s get started, I am not a happy clapper and have stated that I think Mick and Connor are not the answer going forward.

But I am a supporter and it finally dawned on me over the weekend, that we really need to lose the negativity around molineux. We are being our own worse enemies at the moment.

Any team coming to the mol, just have to go for it and get a lucky break and we are all huffing and puffing to the world.

If we don’t get behind the team regardless of what we are seeing(and I know that this can be hard going currently), then come the end of the season the club will blame us.

Let’s not give them the opportunity and support through thick and thin and get behind the team, regardless of what our thoughts are of mick, clipboard, moxey or Morgan.

    we are wolves.

Typical response from some, we pay our money we can say what we like, we pay their wages, blah blah blah. For the record you do not pay their wages and using that as a justification is a joke, in any other walk of life this behaviour would result in arrest.
Problem is Roger Johnson is speaking on behalf of the players who need our support at the moment and are simply not getting it due to idiotic expectations because we are in our third season in the Premier League.
He knows he is not playing well enough at the moment, yet some were lauding him as the second coming after the first three games, thus proving how fickle our support are.
I call all those not happy to resign their season tickets and Moxey to give them a refund as the negative impact they are having on the club far outweighs the relative small investment, comparative to total revenue, they make to it.

My memory tells me that we have had 2 relegation scraps out of 2 and heading for a 3rd or worse! the type of football being played has not improved and his tactics and player choices have arguably got worse! yet its us that are the numptys!

Positivity breeds confidence its not rocket science. I was ashamed of the events at Molineux on saturday. We will always be in the lower reaches of the Premiership because we are trying to establish ourselves slowly and surely moving away from being a yo-yo club. The substitions completely threw Swansea and we very nearly got something from nothing. Its a building block to move forward and rebuild the confidence that has been knocked out of them by their own fans. It sickens me that you think booing the players and manager is going to help the side…. what do you want another 20 odd years in the Championship or a club that slowly improves year on year in the greatest league in the world? We dont deserve a 4th season in the premiership. Boo and criticise at half time or full time…. but for pity sake give them some support….cause this time next year we will have nothing but a half empty stadium, our best players gone and a bunch of journeymen who dont care about the club or the shirt they wear on thier back. Think back to the twoddle era you bunch of fickle moronic prats! My apologies to the fans that do SUPPORT the club, but this needed to be said! No54 bang on!

This can all only end with one outcome if the club is to move forward. Morgans lack of action in getting someone in (ideally Lee Clarke, unbeaten in 39 league games at Huddersfield) is a total disgrace.

The “fans” should be ashamed of themselves. Why do you “fans” think we have an automatic right to become a mid table side? Teams like Wigan, Blackburn, Sunderland, Stoke have all been in the Premiership for longer than us, so why do we feel like we should be suddenly better than them?

The only teams to have been in the prem for less time than us are Swansea, QPR and Norwich. So to finish anything above 18th means that we are punching above our weight. Either by: a) spending more money than those around us (QPR). or b) managing ourselves better than those around us.

This isn’t easy – or do you expect other clubs to step aside because we won the league 3 times over a 10 year period. 60 years ago.

Whether we like it or not, jeering fans will not inspire Wolves to play good football, and may even impair their confidence even more. Ok, the results lately have been disappointing but it is not going to help the team avoid relegation if they face nothing but hostility from their own fans. I know it is difficult to suffer in silence, and the price of a ticket seems that it is not worthwhile, but as a Wolves fan since 1949, I still have belief and faith that a great team will emerge. Roger Johnson is entitled to his opinion but he needs to accept that making negative comments about his own fans will lead to some of them giving him an uncomfortable time next time he’s on the pitch. The only reason wolves fans are booing is that they can see another relegation dog fight this season. We have only beat blackburn and fulham and they are below us and we have not played the big teams yet!! The home form kept us up last year because we showed passion and desire to grind it out. We have not showed that so far, Qpr and Swansea played us off the park and showed us how to play. Yes it was a point and a good comeback in the last 10 mins but if we play like that at home we will be down by april.

the fans were behind the team at the start of the game but the inept performance caused the divisions. booing of the team and manager will never achieve anything but at alot of clubs the crowd would have gone mental when the second goal went in against us, after five defeats. Mick has had to say he was happy with the squad as he was obviously told there was no more money available. that said his team selections, tactics and inability to sort out a dreadful defence are baffling. we were incredibly lucky on saturday as Swansea outplayed us for most of the game. Morgan wont sack Mcarthy and we are stuck with the players so we can only try to support the team and not effect their already fragile confidence. it would be like the Wolves to beat City in the league against all the odds.

Roger – I am that wound up i have has to post to make a few simple points very clear.

I was booing and this is why: –

    1) Stearman, Berra, Henry, Johnson are not of Premiership qulaity whilst they dont have the legs. (thankfully that is only 40% of our team!!!)

    2) Our defensive capabilities are awful, we cannot carry out basicis such as marking and tracking runners.

    3) We have no idea going forward, in terms of creating space and movement.

    4) Tactics are non existent.

    5) Good wingers but no big man, some of the crosses were ok but no one to attack them.

    6) Are passing is dreadful.

The list could go but what is the point. We need to thank Mick for all his help but if this club wants to establish itself as a mid-table team, Steve Morgan needs to realise Mick’s capabilities. There are managers at other clubs struggling who deserve more faith, Martinez at Wigan & Coyle at Bolton because long term they will do well.

With Mark Hughes and Martin O’Neil out of work, now would be a good time to act.

What we don’t know is the extent to which MM’s hands are tied by the restraints, re. funds for new players/wages, put on him by Morgan/Moxey. He is not the type of man to reveal such things. Morgan’s stance re. Premier League players’ wages indicates that we are always going to be amongst the minnows when it comes to this and, as such, will only attract a certain kind of player. Unless we get lucky with our buys, we are in for much of the same – at least for the foreseeable future. Perhaps that is why we have had players that when put to the test, couldn’t quite come up to the mark and had to be moved on.

It is clear to all that the team are obviously performing well under par at the moment.
As fans however we have to support the team. What amazes me is the fact that so many supposed ‘supporters’ fail to see that it is often fear of criticism or failure that leads to a lack of creativity and mistakes within the team.
Is it any coincidence that managed to beat so many top half teams last season, yet often failed to do so well against those around us? Has anyone noticed that this seems directly related to the ‘expectation’ that many fans have about the outcome of a game.
When we play big clubs we often support the team regardless, with nothing to loose as we are expecting the worst, often giving the players room to play creative attacking minded football. This kind of support clearly seems absent against teams we feel we ‘should’ beat.
Why exactly? We are in the top league in the world, anyone who knows should be aware that they have some decent players and newly promoted sides usually start the season in the ascendency.
The supporters who booed when the wholly ineffective wingers were taken off the pitch on Saturday, no doubt thinking Karl Henry should be removed, despite being our most consistent and tenacious player on the pitch.
Those wanting to oust Mick, who clearly have the memory of a senile goldfish, and who would you have replace him? Mark Hughes is jobless for a reason.
As much as we use the ‘players pay packet’ argument or the ‘bought a season ticket so I can moan’ card, its rubbish. The painful lows are what you take along with the ecstatic highs such as beating United, Chelsea and City last season, and I believe the players take professional pride in their game, regardless of money.
I believe it is the fans who have thrown in the towel way before any of the players on the pitch. The players performance is under par and they know it, and will hopefully rectify it. The fans however need to perform in a way that gives the club and players a lift when they most need it. But then there is no pressure on you, is there?

Wolfie – Think you will find the fans were partly to blame for the second goal. After all, we were calling for the players to close down the ball, and then when the players did that, gaps opened up. Its sad to say this, but The fans wernt behind the team on saturday.

Mike Pearson – I think after about 10 minutes the fans were starting to get on players backs. Its not a case of conspiracies, but the simple fact that the confidence is obviously low at the moment. The players are struggling. People want us to play amazing attacking football, but that only comes with confidence. The best move of the entire game came straight after the first goal, and you could clearly see our players were playing how we know they can, with composure and class. In our first 2 matches we played like this for large periods of the game with the same players and management.

The simple fact, which nobody can deny is when a team goes a few matches without winning, the confidence is going to be drained. Is our losing streak our own doing? Of course its not, we deserved a point against Liverpool, and were denied by a dodgy ref, and we deserved a win against Newcastle and was denied by another dodgy ref. That would have been W,W,D,L,L,D,W,L,D. That would have been 12 points from 9 games, which potentially could have seen us sitting in 8th place. More to the point, whos to say that had we got those deserved points, our confidence would have been much higher, and we may well have got something against WBA, and a win against Swansea. I think we definately would have played better.

Yes, Johnson’s underperformed. And yes, we should put pressure on MM to have high expectations (even to the point to more than that which we are capable.)

But if any fan without even Sunday league experience truly believes that they can pick a ‘better’ team or ‘better’ tactics than someone who have worked professionally for decades, you need to look at yourself.

Yes, debate and muse. Have a perspective based on 10,000s hours watching football. Put the pressure of expectation onto MM (badly needed.) But these fans shouldn’t pretend that they have any authority on tactics or players beyond bellicose bantering in the pub or on the internet.

What MM has done is immense. ‘Better’ managers have failed. I remember watching Wolves vs Rochdale in the late 90s in a league cup match when we didn’t even finish in the play-offs (perhaps!) We had 15 shots on goal and didn’t score in the first half. We were booed off, and went on to win the game. That’s how I remember Molineux in the 1990s.

The second goal yesterday had a lot to do with the fans being so negative in the build up. The wolves midfield and defence were holding them at bay and being booed for not pushing forward. The players foolishly let it get to them and pushed forward leaving a whopping great hole at the back.

I am not happy with the way things are going, but to behave like that is terrible.

    Carr Johnson Dann Ridgewell

    This season

    Stearman Johnson Berra Ward.

Which back 4 would you prefer??.

Yes Blues went down but lack of goals seen them off not defensive weakness.

I’m proud of how the majority of responses seem to be saying:

    1) It is right MM is under pressure. He needs to be aware that this club has high expectations, no matter how unrealistic, thanks to its history in the 1950s.

    2) That Johnson has underperformed.

    3) That MM has done an immense job for which he will be remember fondly.

    4) (This is mine…) That there is something about Wolverhampton itself which I think breeds negativity, and that negativity manifests itself in sections of the crowd. These people, while angry like the rest of us, have an entitlement akin to Paris Hilton, but without the looks…

Nice that our own players are worried/scared/ uncomfortable about playing in front of their own supporters – it might be better if we cheer for the opposition from now on, it has the same effect. I can imagine the phonecall “Mr Rooney, fancy signing for Wolves – they will match you wages and buy you a nice house”. “No thanks, I don’t fancy being derided by my own fans week after week”. If we go down it will be the fans that put us in the Championship not the players – Premier league club, Premier league ground, Conference fans.

Oh dear, oh dear. Some of the stuff coming out of the woodwork is teeth-gratingly sour. I agree that the fans exasperation with results and performances is producing some very counterproductive situations, but Roger Johnson is NOT the man to be complaining about it. He has not yet earned the respect of the fans, and should be fully aware of that. He has been exceptionally poor, and needs to concentrate all his time, thoughts and energy on retrieving the form for which he was bought. ‘Shut up and start playing better’…I cannot disagree with that sentiment.

Apart from the first couple of games Johnson has made it perfectly clear that he is disappointed to be at Wolves and as such he will be very little use to us which is exactly what we are seeing on the pitch from him.

Most players coming to Wolves seem to settle in quite well but a few dont. Steve Claridge and Dougie Freedman come to mind from the late 90′s. Jell Van Damme last season. Now add Johnson to that list. Strip the captaincy from him, put him in the reserves and ship him out in January (….if we can!)

With Toshack saying that Johnson leaving his man in the box, but then standing off the Graham, with his his hands behind his back was wrong. He should either close down completely or not go at all. They both also questioned what Berra was doing up on the halfway line and O’Hara just letting Graham run off him.

Toshack also said ‘the 2 wolves central defenders look comfortable with players coming at the front of them, where they don’t have to think too much. But don’t like players coming at the side’. They were both very critical of our defending but not one mention of the fans. They highlighted our defenders were marking no-one for the first goal. 2 The fans don’t get brassed off watching rubbish

3 The fans keep their hard-earned cash to be spent on more worthwhile, enjoyable activities.

I like to see Wolves players try, so I am happy as long as the players put the effort in. Unfortunately what I perceive is either a lack of effort or something deeper. Five losses on the trot is enough to get most fans upset. At least we will have some players prepared to put in a shift in the cup game even if we do lose. Hang on, apparently we are not allowed to do that and should be ashamed of watching the pathetic crap being served up week after week at the pub rather than paying £40 for the priveledge and lining the pockets of an organisation that clearly has no respect for us. There is a saying in retail that criticism is vital if a company is to put right its mistakes and improve. Why is this any different with football, if you had shopped in tescos for twenty years and they doubled their prices and treated you badly, would you still shop with them, no of course you wouldn’t. At the same time, many people commenting seem to be saying the players mustn’t express views – really? Taken also with the vicious remarks here about people who disagree with the critics, it all seems like a frenzy of self destruction. Roger, you ain’t heard nothin’ yet. Molineux is notorious for its over the top expectations and Wolves fans for their pessimism. There’s a reason that Wolves fans have been negative and that’s decades of disappointment. When Dave Jones got us into the Premier League we were walking away from the Millenium Stadium and Sheffield United fans were reminding us tht we’d won. We couldn’t celebrate winning. We didn’t know how to compute that emotion. We were in shock. The script is that we get to the brink of success and spectacularly fail. In the play-off era, we probably hold some kind of record for finishing 7th. There’s a reason we’ve not had this for 5 years and that reason is Mick McCarthy. Why our fans would want to get rid of him is a mystery to me. Why we would get agitated at yet another useless centre-half is not.

Wolves are not in the bottom three and 2 wins eases any pressure, it looks to me that what Roger Johnson is actually saying, is that the team is being booed for attempting to pass it sideways etc, but this is the team attempting to keep possesion, you can’t score without the ball and nearly every Prem team now has improved with ball retention, look at Swansea and to Say Roger Johnson is rubbish is nonsense, he really can play and defend and is a strong minded charachter which is just what you are going to need

The fans must learn patience, if some fans want the team to ‘launch it`and are screaming and boing the team, then Wolves really will be in trouble but at the moment you are not rock bottom by a mile

So now we have created a situation where the players are playing with fear with a section of the supporters whingeing and groaning. We will go down if our home form collapses. The support WW get when playing away is far better – lots of unreserved love of the team and unfailing backing of the team. The team is not playing well. Are we helping them by moaning at them? McCarthy and the team must be gutted. I say get behind the team that is picked and support them to the hilt. Moan after the game if you have to. All the fans on here, for or against McCarthy, can you honestly remember the last game you went to watch a game and actually enjoyed it? Perhaps 1 maybe 2 games per season when there are a total of 19 played at home. The tactics, positioning, team selection, coaching, backroom staff are all average championship level. Sideways play and pushing the ball down the wings all game is basic championship play. Teams only have to watch us once to know how we play. There is nothing different. The amount of times it is played from Hennessey to Ward, Ward to Jarvis, Jarvis to Henry back to Ward, Ward to Jarvis for a poor cross to be put into a 5″ nothing forward who is outplayed by a tall centre half who clears the ball is ridiculous. Watch MOTD or Sky, watch another premiership team and watch them attack down the middle of the field, run at pace at the defence, runs being made passed the ball to get in behind the defence, wingers coming off the wing and making runs. None of the above happens at the wolves it is dull, boring, uninspiring, championship football and after 3 seasons of relegation battle football things need to change. Thank you Mick for taking us this far but we now need a Premiership manager who will use his technical knowledge and backroom staff to improve on our play and use his contacts in the game to bring in new faces in January, in the hope of achieving a finishing position above 18th.

Also with regard to booing the team, it doesnt work, Mick is stubborn and pigheaded, that is then reflected on his team who obviously buy into the MM regime and will support him. Simple solution, protest with your feet and don’t turn up, don’t buy the tickets, don’t buy the merchandise, return your season tickets and when the stands are empty things will have to change, panic buttons will be pressed and Morgan and Moxey (the money men) will need us back.

I am 50/50 on this one I do not think that booing during the game will help but also how can this be used as a excuse that the players are not performing. There was no major hostility until we were 2-0 down and we drew 2-2 so to use this as an excuse is a joke.

I hope that for the next home game vs Wigan (which will be another massive game for us) we all get behind the team when they are on the pitch so if we do fail we can put to bed the excuse from the players and management that they are not performing due to the hostility from the crowd and if we do and please god I hope we do win then maybe we could use that as a blue print for all home games and hopefully get the results we require.

With regards to MM I personally believe we will not progress to the next level with him but do not want him forced out due to the good job he has done so would prefer that if a change is made it is made in the right way, that said the results and more importantly performances cannot go on like this much longer.

If they are so convinced in what they say, let them prove it. Show us that THEY can turn around Wolves fortunes by their vocal support.

We don’t want him back. We told you he wasn’t good enough anyway. He had a shocking second half of last season and looked well out of his depth.

Not so long ago I remember Wolves fans saying he was the missing link and would provide the steel in the back four. He’s not that good and never will be.

Looks like great business for Blues – a player past his sell by date.

    See you next season.

    100 – Doyler – well said mate.

This club and it’s fans have seen far more lows than highs over the past 30 years or so and having battled to get back into the top flight, we are paranoid about giving up that status so cheaply. Based on Saturday’s performance we’re headed for trouble again and if people expect the fans to clap and cheer on the journey then they’re deluded. Utterly frustrated.

    Have a nice day.

Roger Johnson is not helping himself of his team mates with comments like this. It comes across as antagonistic. But he is taking the lead from MM who is talking in the same way. Fans don’t know everything but they do need to feel that the club/manager, are hurting like they are.
Fan get frustrated at the late changes as they know that whenever MM makes a change the game sees us start scoring, it’s been happening for weeks, it usually comes too late in the game though! My only part critique would be, Guiadiora has been coming on regularly, he has being doing well, he also helps moral on the pitch, when will he be given a starting slot.
I don’t agree with the negativity in the stands, it wont help, but over the last few weeks the team has come out and looked lacklustre, and unconnected with each other. The crowd does not have short memories- we remember the last game of the season, where we where kicking every ball, we remember the games where the team came out with virtually no hope of winning on paper then pulled out a blinding performance. The fans will get behind them again when they show willingness to fight.
We also remember the last time any stadium work was done and the jinx that was. We want the development, but football fans are superstitious!
I would like to say….Henry has had a lot of stick, especially as he passes back any ball he is given, on Sat he did try varying it- not everything came off but he TRIED!

I agree with this comment to some extent. After the opening 3 games the Wolves fans were singing ‘Super Mick McCarthy’ and now we’re on a run of 8 PL games without a win the fans have turned completely. Some fans have to realise Wolves are going to go on these type of runs. We have only strengthened last seasons line-up with one player effectively in Johnson, so are we really going to improve our league position that much? I don’t think so. Some fans need to be more realistic. However, I don’t think Johnson should be talking to the press criticising the fans when his performances are below the required standard. Wolves fans need to get behind the team, booing the team after 30 minutes every home game isn’t the answer.

What does R Johnson know ? Not a lot at playing centre half, yet he has the nerve to criticise fans. Perhaps some fans go over the top , but Johnson, McCarthy, Swain of the E&S and others fail to understand that Wolves having arrived, have been followed in a loyal fashion. For this privalage they willingly pay high prices in return for a poor quality of football in hope M.M would produce the goods.

What is not understood is why K.Henry lost his captain’s role. I am not a Henry fan,he just about makes the team but he did not deserve the humiliation from Mc Carthy or the booing of some sections of the crowd. Do not use KH ,If nothing else, he has been loyal to a club.
If the captain’s role had gone to a Wolves established player, who is another question, that move would have been understood. It was the method of disposing of the captain that has to be demoralising. Henry has lost some of his bite and without that, what else can he offer? Not many footballlers would have took his demotion in such a manner. For that, if nothing else, Henry should be be given some praise and not be sujected to any further hassle.

Not one local newspaper reporter or columnist has queried this move. Perhaps instead of poking fun at various managers, players and others, could they give it a go and find out the reason for his demotion?
