Wolves explain James McFadden bid

Wolves today denied they were outbid by Everton for James McFadden.

The 28-year-old free agent rejoined the Toffees on Monday on a contract until the end of the season, after rejecting a similar offer from Molineux.

But Wolves manager Mick McCarthy believes identical offers were tabled by both clubs, crushing speculation that the former Birmingham forward returned to Goodison Park because of cash.

McCarthy said: “We never lost him – he chose to go to Everton. And as far as I’m aware, there was nothing in it in terms of the finance of the offers.

“He went there purely by choice because he wanted to go to Everton – he was there before. They offered him a deal to the end of the season, which was the same as we were offering him.”
