Michael Kightly ‘shop window’ chance

Wolves winger Michael Kightly gets a ‘shop window’ chance after his loan to Nottingham Forest collapsed – as three team-mates prepared to hit the comeback trail.

Kightly is in the reserves line-up to face Albion in the Black Country mini-derby at AFC Telford tonight, 12 days before the real thing at the Hawthorns as Kevin Foley, Jody Craddock and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake prepare to start full training again.

Former England under-21 international Kightly had agreed to join Forest, but the failure of the Championship club to seal the deal because of finances was believed to be a trigger for Steve McClaren’s resignation on Sunday.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “There was interest – I’d spoken to Steve McClaren about Michael Kightly but I’ve no idea what happened because I was open to it and so was Kightly.”

McCarthy insisted Adam Hammill wasn’t going to Forest on loan as had been rumoured, stressing: “No. They wanted a winger and we’ve got Kightly, but Adam was never in line to go.”
