Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Wolves 1 Newcastle 2
Saturday 1st October 2011, 5:10PM BST.
Wolves staged a grandstand finish before slipping to their fourth successive Premier League defeat against Newcastle at Molineux.
Steven Fletcher’s 88th minute goal gave Mick McCarthy’s men hope along with five minutes of added time, after first-half goals from Demba Ba and Jonas Gutierrez left the hosts trailing by two goals for the fourth game in a row.
And Wolves should have got something out of the game, with Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul in inspired form and referee Mark Halsey failing to spot a foul by Steven Taylor on Jamie O’Hara inside the area in the first-half, awarding a free kick instead.
Twice in the first-half, Krul denied Kevin Doyle before his smart reactions smothered efforts, first from Steven Fletcher then from substitute and Wolves’ man of the match Adam Hammill.
Then Doyle thought he had snatched an injury-time equaliser, only to be denied when the linesman flagged Matt Jarvis as having headed back out of play.
McCarthy made one change to the line-up that lost 2-1 at Liverpool last week.
As expected, Fletcher replaced David Edwards, who dropped to the bench as Wolves returned to a 4-4-2 formation.
Richard Stearman was passed fit despite not training until Friday because of a badly bruised toe, leaving Matt Doherty waiting for his first Premier League start.
Wolves made a decent start but, for the fourth game in a row, they went 2-0 down.
Krul made a good save from O’Hara’s free kick and Doyle missed two half chances, as Wolves appeared to put their three recent defeats behind them.
But Newcastle always looked dangerous on the break and Gutierrez curled wide, after Yohan Cabaye got away from Karl Henry in midfield before they took the lead.
It was an awful goal for Wolves to concede, Ba stealing in unmarked to head past goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey at the near post from Cabaye’s corner.
Wolves went desperately close to equalising in the 20th minute when Doyle’s wayward shot hit Steven Taylor, forcing Krul into a diving save before Matt Jarvis’ follow-up was blocked by Ryan Taylor.
In an extremely open game where both teams attacked freely, Hennessey was next in action to deny Cheik Tiote from distance.
Then the Wolves’ defence seemed at sixes and sevens as Roger Johnson left the ball which hit Gutierrez, Hennessey and then Gutierrez again before bouncing wide.
Wolves tried to hit back with a shot from Doyle that flew past the post, before Newcastle doubled their lead.
Awful defending from the hosts saw Gutierrez wriggle away from Stearman, Stephen Hunt and Henry, whose initial pass left Hunt short, before the Argentina international took on Johnson and drilled a low angled left foot shot into the opposite corner of the net.
Four minutes before the break, Wolves should have been awarded a penalty when Steven Taylor flattened O’Hara, but referee Halsey only gave a free kick when the foul occurred a yard inside the area.
Wolves forced another save from Krul, as O’Hara’s flicked-up volley was tipped over.
McCarthy’s men showed little to suggest they were going to get back into the game until the arrival of substitutes Hammill and Adlene Guedioura in the 59th minute.
Almost immediately, Hammill’s cross caused chaos in the Newcastle box and, although Fletcher couldn’t turn to get a shot in, he teed up O’Hara, who fired woefully wide from an excellent position.
With more attacking options on the pitch, Wolves built up a head of steam and, after Jarvis’ shot was blocked in a crowded box, Krul pulled off a magnificent point-blank save from Fletcher and another to deny Hammill’s follow-up.
Finally, Fletcher beat Krul and broke Newcastle’s resolute defence by stooping to head home at the far post from Hammill’s cross.
Doyle was then denied an equaliser when Jarvis’ header just went out of play, as Wolves poured forward at the death.
But it was too little, too late and Wolves must wait until the Black Country derby at the Hawthorns on October 16 before they can try to pick up points and end their losing run.

What a farse. Talk about granstand finishes all you like but no wins in 4 is typical of this manager.
Compare that to them up the road – they lost 1 in 4 and are getting peleters whilst we aint won in 4 and seem to think we are doing well…. oh well, at least we can post stuff on their site to wind them up – only fun thing about being a wolves fan these days.

What do Hammill, Guedioura & Doherty have to do to start a game?
It wasn’t inept, it wasn’t appalling and neither was it down to bad luck or decisions by the officials running the game that we lost. It simply wasn’t good enough……..again.
This Wolves out fit are a bunch of triers, no doubt about that but with nothing up their sleeves to pull off any surprises once they go behind. Nor anything up those same sleeves once they’ve taken the lead, to convincingly kill off the opposition.
Another season like the last two in prospect. The best we can hope for is that three other teams have a worse season than we do.
McCarthy holds his head in his hands. Well, even I could have told him that Guedioura and Hammil would have been better starting than Hunt and Henry. Better Henry doesn’t start at all in my view. Disappointing, yet again.

Oh dear its all going pearshaped!!!
What’s MM’s excuse for another loss? Another 3 points down the drain. None in four games now is it??? That’s relegation performance.
A good start to the season has now been ruined by another loss!
It doesn’t matter how the team plays because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the result.

Before I start, I am not a Mick hater or a mick fan I am just a bewildered fan looking at facts. Last season we survived by losing by one goal in the last game of the season. We only added one player, O’hara was already playing. If Mick thinks that squad with one addition was good enough then I rest my case now. If Mick has not been allowed to spend then the board should be honest with the fans as therefore i think it would be harsh to criticise Mick if his hands were tied. All I ask is that we play players in their right position, play players in form, not on reputations (Henry, Kightly, Stearman etc)and give players an opportunity to play i.e. Milijas, Guerdiola, Hamill, Dougherty. I am sure some will label me a Mick hater but they are blind to the facts. If we continue with this squad and his reliance on his favourites then I am sure we will be relegated. Thank you for listening!

Same old favourites played again, the subs showed who should be in the starting eleven. Very disappointing.
Not good enough yet again. Stats don’t lie, 5 games and 2 goals scored, 9 conceded, 1 point from a possible 15, 3 straight home defeats 2 of which are against teams we really should be getting something from.
We should have invested more in the summer when we had the chance. I love the look of the new stand but was it REALLY needed?! I’d much rather see a successful team on the pitch.
Henry is just not good enough at this level, he’s done a fantastic job but if you want to move on you can’t be sentimental. He’s one of the weak links, along with Berra and stearman and should be replaced.
Lose against west brom in 2 weeks and the alarm bells will be doing overtime.
let’s get the ref decisions out of the way yes they were poor and both could have turned the game for us.
After that, the first thing is the manager again picked the wrong team after the last few games changes were needed, he didn’t do it, Jarvis wasted on the R Wing for 20 mins, Hunt ineffective, Henry should have been dropped for Adlene.
We had so many opportunities to score and didn’t take them that is the fact of the game.
Some believed that Henry was MOTM last week, I really couldn’t see it he was so poor last week and every game so far, he has I have said last season & this been ineffective, WOW looks like McCarthy has seen the light, I never thought he would take him off, didn’t the game change!
I was prepared to give McCarthy a fresh start, but we are going no where with this guy, Moxey wants to know why attendances are dropping, mainly it’s because we haven’t got a goal scorer or a manager who knows what he is doing, he lost us the game again today before we started.
As for Conner why he has the rolled up newspaper I don’t know, (unless he is looking for a job), it doesn’t do us any good week after week.
Bright spots, Hammill & Adlene may be in the team next game, however don’t bank on it.
Darkside, we are in for another season as last, unless pigheaded McCarthy sorts himself out or the board does it for him
Result, if not more fans will stop going to the game, and we will be in the bottom 3 again!!!!!!!!!

I don’t EVER EVER EVER EVER want to see Karl Henry start another EPL games EVER EVER again!!

SOUTHWICK WOLF – I think when teams miss chances but dominate, it shouldnt be considerd bad luck, but when huge poor decisions go against you, theres nothing you can do about it, and therefor it has to be deemed bad luck. The decisions were really poor today, and our performance at least deserved a drawto say the least.
Having said that, our start of the season is now over, and I think its essential that we now get 2 wins out of 2. If that happens, things will no doubt look good again. If we dont win our next 2 matches though, we will be in serious trouble.

Same as last year but what can you expect with the numpty and clipboard in charge. I said last year MM has had his time and should go before he destroys everything. We are fast becoming a laughing stock. Not concerned with late rallies, its the previous performance that killed us off. Bottom line is yet another rubbish performance. Defence is laughable, Johnson would need to be superman with this lot around him. Stearman and Berra are simply not good enough.

I’m listening, no problem, you have my sympathy. It’s the board who need to be listening………….and watching as less fans turn up to each home game and make for the exits…..seen it all before…best manager in thirty years my ass. That’s a sad reflection in itself. Getting out of the Championship is difficult I grant you, staying in the prem is harder. We need a manager who can do that with some style, not one who does with doubt in his expression and his head in his hands.

McCarthy out, its now 7 from 7 and that is below what we need. I can’t beleive people pay to watch a McCarthy team. He has wasted more money in the summer and a bottom 5 place is a certainty, if not a bottom 3!!!

Well, I’ve said it before and I will say it again. MM & TC are not fit for the Premiorship. They keep picking their favorites instead of form players. Most posts on here have been calling for Hammill, Guediora and Miljias to start. Only when two of them came on did it look like we might get something from the game. It’s a shame that those in charge seem to have their jobs set in stone.
COME ON THE WOLVE BOARD AND SEE THE LIGHT, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. MM & TC OUT.
To those of you that have called me negative in the past. Hopfully you will see the light too.

Yet another inept display devoid of any sort of quality by this £60m team of honest but sadly lacking players assembled by McCarthy.
Suppose that Mick and his merry band of Happies will spout a story of bad luck and bad decisions but the truth is that we are nowhere near good enough and never will be under this manager.
It seems we can only win games if our opposition has an off day and rely on idiot referees getting their decisions correct, although the latter certainly helps.
Don’t paint it up as anything else because yet again we only started playing when the game was over and the opposition backed off….as the above article says ‘too little, too late’.
Are we in the bottom 3 yet?

!6 Wolfhedd,
I agree it was bad luck that denied us two legit goals. But what about getting two bad decisions against us and still putting away three to four golden opportunities that were missed. We would have won then. Same old, same old. Poor team selection by a manager who simply refuses to see where his weak links are. True a couple of wins from a couple of games will make things look different, that’s obvious but followed by another four defeats is no kind of pattern for survival. End of.

My business partner is a Newcastle fan and said why does your manager continue to play the wrong players, Stearman who didnt play too bad should not of Started Henry should not of started Milijas didnt make the bench.Hammill should of started. Too little to late. The whole team weren’t interested today. Johnson seems to have caught a nasty disease off Berra and they’re as bad as each other now. The defense needs sorting quickly. I’m not sure 4-4-2 works with the quality of players we’ve got.
Lack of investment in the team is starting to show.

”Robbed simple as that, by not One but Two officials” MM went into Mark Haseley’s dressing room and showed him tv replay of the first penalty shout, and he told MM i didnt see it properly so didnt want to make ‘guess? well he did and got it bloody WRONG. Then the farce of his assistant referee with his Cap on, who wasn’t even in line and had the sun in his eyes, but somehow he could see clearly from where he was in the bright sunshine? I havent seen MH give a good performance since his return from is illness in the BPL. Yet Leicester v Derby now have a World Cup referee Howard Webb in charge of their game? I only said on here last week that the standard of refereeing is awful in the BPL, no better than the Chapionship level. Well today proved me right, just look at Martin Atkinson’s performance between Evtn v Livpol ,he was only two yards from the incident and sent Rodwell off with a straight red card, yet he clearly took the ball, not the man. I know we’ve now lost 4 on the trot, but its in the manner were losing them that matters, yes we gave away two poor goals yet again, but it doesn’t help when you’ve got to put up with such a awful standard of officials in charge. I did smile though when the Beacon commentator said Terry Connor has got a piece of paper in his hand, i shouted i hope its his P45 from Morgan/Moxey. I do feel we need a Top Coach in a.s.a.p. ( Ray Wilkins ), Im not going to say MM should be sacked, but people who know me on here, will know ive said for along time i believe Mick as taken this club as far as his ability will allow him? This is not a ‘knee_jerk’ reaction, as ive said today’s game was lost by ‘TWO OFFICIALS’ not MM. I dont know about clubs wanting to sign Doyle, i think its Fletcher who would fetch the big money, he’s clearly a Top striker in hte BPL, and clearly our club’s best striker. I thought O’Hara was awful always getting caught in possession, and playing players into trouble. I do feel sorry for MM in that SM/JM didnt do what they promised him in the summer, and that was back him financially, saying he could get two CH and one LB aswell as signing J.O’Hara? Its clear our defence even with Johnson in it, isn’t up to playing consistantly in the BPL week-in week-out, thats 9 goals against in 4 matches. Its ok saying yes we’ve played well in Three of the games, but its all about points, and we’ve taken none out of twelve? UTW:

The fact that MM only made 2 substitutions when we are losing 2-0 tells me he doesn’t think he has anyone better to but on. If that’s the case then that is McCarthy’s fault, it’s his squad, his signings. says alot about the man. Why didn’t he bring Doherty on for Stearman. Or take off Jarvis, move Stearman up to midfield and Doherty at RB. Jarvis is an out and out waste of space. A lazy one trick wonder who doesn’t get back to help out the full backs. Wardy today was worth 10 of jarvis.
Lets not forget that Tim Krul their gk was by far the BEST PLAYER on the pitch today, even Pardew said it on the tv. If it hadn’t been for his exceptional display and not forgetting the awful decisions by two so called BPL officials, the result could have been very different. UTW:

Yes, it was frustrating to watch. yes, we should have had a Penalty. Yes, Doyle scored a legitimate goal to tie it up. Should we have got anything out of this game? Answer, NO!!!
For too much of this game we were outplayed and outmuscled both in midfield and at central defense by an average looking Newcastle side. And Krul played really well when needed.
Our crossing was unbelievably poor from Jarvis especially and, on too many occasions, from Hammill.
We are now in free fall and there does not seem to be any end in sight other than floating gently down into the bottom three. What is diabolical to is the fact that we are losing to teams that have been largely reorganized with new players ( Liverpool, QPR, Newcastle))whereas our squad has been together for a long time. MM has frequently boasted about our team spirit and togetherness. Question – where is it???
Certain players have had their chance to justify their starting positions and have failed. It’s time to make changes – if we cannot defend we might as well let Adlene and Milijas have their chance. In January the Club is going to have to find players that will make a difference because we are heading for the Championship.
Poor Decisions by the ref but more poor decisions by MM have cost us yet again.
The midfield is shocking. Henry offers nothing to the team. It normally takes MM a couple of years to see what 26,000 others already can (Collins, Keogh etc etc), lets hope he’s eventually woke up about Henry. Lets get 4 midfielders in who compete and can go forward.
MM out, but we know that will never happen as he tows teh line of minimal squad investment in both transfer fees and wages which keep Morgan and Moxey happy. At least the bigger ground will allow Morgan and Moxey to exploit more paying supporters with broken promises on player investment!!!
A very disappointing result, and the fact we let them score two, and boss the midfield in the first half, shows changes are needed urgently. However, look at the stats – we had more possession, twice as many shots on target, denied a goal and a penatly, and even Pardew thinks we were unlucky not to get “at least a point”. With a fair and/or competent set of officials we would have won 3-2 today, and the posts here would have been different. I’m not a happy clapper, but a sense of objectivity is needed for looking at results like this.
All the supporters must be numpties because the biggest cheer of the day was when HENRY was taken off!!!will he now also have the bottle and leave STEARMAN,BERRA,and HUNT out the team. Unfortunatly he will once again state I pick the team and I am not bothered what the supporters think or say.
What is his problem with MILIJAS?…He must have said something to him like FLETCHER did when he picked WARD instead of him, before DOYLE was injured last season.
The manager has lost his credability and should have gone last December.
So Mr MORGAN wake up and do what you should have done last year before its too late again.

I can not believe some of your stupid standard comments on what is becoming a really boring forum day in day out. I torture myself reading these comments everyday and its the same old boring kack. Karl Henry was by far our best player today until he got subbed when it was clear that O’Hara was the man to go. Shame on all you who booed. A blatant penalty and a disallowed goal which was called by a linesman who was wearing a cap because he couldn’t see and couldn’t or keep up with play and we win 3-2. I agree it was a terrible performance, but between the ref and ourselves the game was lost. There was plenty from that game to suggest that we will be more than safe this season.

Today i felt ashamed to be a wolves fan!cheering sarcastically our player when he gets substituted! He was nowhere near the worst player on the pitch!we may not all agree with karl henry’s style of play, but it’s not him that picks the team and puts himself out there. he gives 100% every week. And still some wolves fans slag him off!for some reason this seems to be mainly at home games. I don’t hear it away from home as much. Booing our team does not do them any good, stop it or our players will become scared to play at home

Another game played and lost and y ?
Bad ref and linesman ? realy. it was in the box so yes it was a pen. did the ball go out ? all i can say is the lino was not in line by a mile so he should not have ruled it out of play (attacking team given the bennifit i think the rules state) and before you start saying thats the offside rule. im sure it allso goes for any inciedent not realy sean by the ref or lino.
our defending is poor to say the least. stearman and beara might have started the season good but now are showing how poor they are !! what sort of defending at the near post was that and for the seconed !! was messi playing for the toon cuz talk about bad defending. that was one of the few time you want henry to do a bad tackle but he just stood and watched and beara. he,s got the turning speed of a aircraft carrier.
It seems that no matter how good you are mm will not replace his fav !!
I for one say he has to go if he dosnt have a change of hart soon before we end up back in the championship.
the stand will look great there, empty.

Another botched selection with in form players warming the bench. Hammill has hardly had a chance since he arrived, Hunt is out of sorts drop him. Stearman not a full back, having a poor run yet still he plays over the promising Doherty. Great opportunity to give a talented young player a chance, but no sticks with tried and ‘trusted’ and l use that final word loosely!
O’Hara dont recognise him from last season out of form drop him for Milijas (not even on bench, is he injured?). Henry is limited at this level and has no direct competition for that role so he plays every week irrespective of form or should l say lack of it. You have to have a player in there who does not give away possession.
Yet another example and favourite Edwards starting last saturday instead of Adlene. He was awful.
One player l will defend is Doyle. If you don’t think he is an outstanding talent then you don’t understand much about football. He does a fantastic job for the team especially last season when we he played up front on his own.
Mick has got some thinking to do over the next fortnight.

I think bitter disappointment sums up most of the posts. Disappointment with the very modest ability of this squad, at the continued selection of players who quite obviously can’t hack it at EPL level and with a financial straight-jacket caused by top slicing funds for building projects etc, thus relegating strengthening of the team to lower levels of importance.
I would also add that communications between the hierarchy and the fans is poor to non-existent, a state of affairs that can hardly assist. They don’t have a good communicator among them so why in heaven’s name can’t they get one? He could save his salary by filling a handful of empty seats.
This season was one I anticipated with a keenness I can barely recall, but it’s now like watching the film Titanic for the umpteenth time having being told in this version the liner doesn’t go down, yet witnessing it’s stern in the air within minutes of the film starting. No doubt the happy clappers will continue re-arranging the deckchairs until it reaches the sea bed.
Someone at the top better get their sums right for next year – because in the twilight world of parachute payments new stands will need to be delayed, or the tea lady’s job will be in jeopardy and Division 1 will be staring the club in it’s collective face.

Just watched the game again on SSFF.
And to be honest we have battered them, 7 decent attempts on goal in the first half with their keeper making 4 decent saves.
Few points though.
Firstly, the manager, last 3 matches he has he hasn’t helped the team with basic selection errors.
QPR – Kighty & Elokobi & then at half time in that game not changing the shape of the team to give us a foothold in it, when everyone else in the ground could see wwe needed an extra midfielder.
Liverpool – Played Edwards as the extra midfielder, when he just wasn’t fit, away at Anfield!!!! why not Milijas or Georduora???
Newcastle – Playing a half fit Stearman, who was awful first half, he surely had to continue with the team that finished the game at Liverpool including young Doherty, who was excellent.
Secondly, the new signings, Johnson & O’Hara, are just awful at the moment, O’Hara, just plays for himself keeps looking for a ‘milion dollar ball’ & keeps looking the score a worldie instead of playing team-mates in when they are in a better position he is starting to look selfish & not a team player, Johnson, captain??? do me a favour, the guy doesn’t want to know, his body language tells the story, as soon as we go a goal down his head drops & he goes into his shell, not captain material, I also think he was at fault in part for both of the goals yesterday especially the second one, bring Craddock back.
Finally, the ref, quite simply Halsey just shouldn’t be involved in the game any more, the last 3 times he has reffed at Molineux his incompetence has cost us points, Villa – not giving Warnock a stone wall 2nd yellow card who the puts the ball in for the winner, the lad commented after the match that he was lucky to stay on!!! Spurs – gives a penalty for a foul on Milijas in the 6 yd box as he is about to put the ball into an empty net, but doesnt send Hutton off for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity after 30 mins of the game!!! Newcastle – well by now we all know what happened yesterday so no need to go over that, but just to rub salt into the wounds he booked Henry for a tackle just wasn’t a foul, I can only presume he booked him for being Karl Henry, which has now happened 2 weeks on the bounce, I think we should be sending the FA a DVD of these incidents with a request that he doesn’t turn up at Molineux again & these guys plead for respect!!!!
These are not excuses IMO they are the reasons for our recent poor results, apart from QPR our performances suggest we are not far away as we have played well against 3 good teams in Spurs, Liverpool & Newcastle.
Apologies for the very long post, not my style, but I had to get it off my chest, anyone agree????

I suppose we should say that we were robbed. It was definitely a penalty and what was wrong with that goal? and your not allowed to critisise refs. But,having said that we have an International goalkeeper still not commanding his area well enough and can`t even wear a cap when he`s having trouble with the sun.Following that Stearman must go,Henry must go,O`Hara must concentrate for 90 minutes,Johnson needs a partner and so does Fletcher. We need to give a run to Guidi and Milijas. Finally I am sure McCarthy has taken this team as far as he can and after another inspiring TV interview should at this minute be packing his bags along with Moxey after his comments on why the fans are not going to matches.

Well , again, as I predicted…we lost…and we shall also lose our next game at West Brom….

Johnson’s indecisiveness for the second goal was a joke, and committed himself so easily. Park players the pair of them…. Stearman plays yet Doherty had Downing in his pocket the previous week….and Mick…we just can’t play 442 as we do not have 4 good midfielders….what does Hunt bring to the table…and funny how we picked up when Gued and Hammill came on…and remind me Mick who crossed the ball so perfectly for Fletcher? Both of these have to start…go back to 451 at the Albion, but with Fletcher up front , not the out of sorts Doyle, he is also no worth a place. So 7 points from 7 games, relegation stuff for all to see, we can’t score, we can’t defend and we have the worst midfield of the top two divisions. I was going to buy 3 lots of the 99 quid offer for the next 5 home games, but after this latest shambles, I think I’ll leave it…lose at West Brom and it’s time for McCarthy to go….his tactics are rubbish, his team selection appalling, and the players bought in are passengers.

24, couldn’t agree with you more about Doyler the toiler but you see we numpties don’t realise what “a lovely guy he is to have around the place.” Puts a shift in, of course, cost 6.5 million but what the hell if he can’t score goals, he’s a lovely lad and what we Numpties clearly don’t know about football, is that’s just what you need in todays game. Lovely lads that put a shift in. Not goal scorers at all.. What you need to stay in the prem today is the firm hope that three other teams are worse than you.
Why didn’t I realise that? Wow, there’d have been no room in Mickos team for the Doog then, nor anyone with a spark of personality. Boring manager at aclub with no ambition, er well except perhaps a certain Mr Moxey who has an agenda slightly removed from the actual football, I think it’s called a pension plan.

4 on the bounce and no changes to the first team is absolutely unacceptable!
Stearman, Berra, Big George, Henry just not good enough!
Jarvis and Doyle only slightly better!
Imagination, creativity coupled with quality and endeavour is what will win footbal games not inept planning and poor tacticts.
MM and TC have clearly have no plan A never mind a plan B so for that reason they should be held accountable for the bad run of games.
What is MM’s mission statement regarding youth team players? because in 5 years not 1 young’n has been able to break through into the first team. They keep getting shipped out on loan so we don’t have to pay their wages, thats just MM’s Wolves all over.
Paul Lambert or the guy at Southampton should get a phone from Steve Morgan.

A positive performance in the second half once the substitutes came on.
Adlene and Adam showed real intent it also seemed to bring improved performances from Jarvis and O’hara when they were brought on.
Doyle looked sharp had shot’s and got in the box.Doyle certainly put up an improved performance, hopefully this is a sign of things to come from him.
I have and will continue to maintain we are at our best when we are being positive and showing purpose and intent.
Jarvis is just so much more effective when forcing the play and show’s he can cause problems when allowed an attacking liecence.
Adlene,Hamill were both impressive, they were assertive, aggressive and wanted to give hell to the oppossition, they both showed ample skill also and some beautifull touches.
I would like to ram these facts down Mick’s throat.
Play players in form, let players play their natural game, play them in their natural positions, play the players that are showing form on match day’s not training!Hunt as been off his game for a few weeks yet is kept in the team as a passenger,Henry can and does break up play but he does not have much else to his game for this league, may be Mick if you have to keep him in the team then play him in defence.
Adlene can tackle, can shoot, pass and take players on so he as to start as long as he maintains form.
Defence as to be much stronger and composed changes need to be made,Foley and Zubar have to be in the team, these two can have their lapses but they are players who are intelligent calm and composed and would give us more fluidity as they can play also.
The only thing we take out of this game is that attack is the best option unless you are playing a top four side.

at least the new stand is coming on.

Mick we are losing anyway so what is the problem in changing things around?
Some of these players have had ample chances by the run in the team they have been given, now is the time to give Adlene,Hamill,Millijias,Foley,Zubar and Doherty the same chances and time.
We have to negate oppossition pressure by applying our own pressure.
Players like Stearmen,Berra,Johnson,Henry,Hunt,O’hara these players have shown they are out of form, they have had enough game’s to bring themselves to some semblance of form,it as not happenend,so Mick this is were you need to show your metal and equality by bringing in players who will give us some hunger and desire and give some of our players who think they are irreplaceable time to reflect and be given a break from the pressures of premiership football.
Apart from the Happy Clappers majority of the wolves fans have been asking for changes to be made and Mick you have remained unmoved and have atleast cost us 5 points with your ability of picking favourites.
I can and will not tolerate such obvious contempt for majority of the wolves fans who demand changes in playing staff.
At the end of the day it’s not about Doyle,Adlene Hunt as it is about Wolves the football team!

It hurts to see your football team get beat week in week out, especially when you can see that that some players are not playing at the top of their game, when we attack as a unit we look a very very good premiership side,a side that does look like a mid table team.
So I beg you go for it,be adventurous go out to win games no matter the oppossition and you will find even if we are losing fans will remain behind the team and you.

@15 I can’t take seriously comments from anyone who refers to this league as the EPL.
I read the predictable attacks on Stearman, Henry etc but let me point out some elephants in the room and uncomfortable truths.
Doyle is not good enough. There I said it. There can’t be a striker in this division with a weaker shot. And his goal tally year after year makes him a luxury.
In Johnson I just don’t see the player that has been hyped up either as a captain and a defender. He has been culpable to a greater or lesser degree for most of the goals conceded this year. In fact Berra is carrying him most of the time.
so open your eyes to the wider shortfallings before blaming everything on the usual suspects. Not that I am defending them either.

Missed our chances yesterday simple. Krul in goal was top draw. To all the fans who cheered when Karl wad took off. Your not real fans watch the game down the pub. Golden rule never boo the team or a wolves player. Need at least 4 points from the next 2 games.
Doyle is absolute quality and was yesterday. He did actually score too, as the replays showed.
However, to me, Doyle is an attacking midfield player, to sit just behind the front two. Fletcher is a natural goal scorer but what we need is perhaps SEB playing alongside him.
Henry is hopeless and I’m afraid to say O’hara is heading the same way.
Back four all hopeless. Johnson sadly, has proved me right, that Scott Dann was the better of the two players by some margin.
Stearman is really poor, Ward, well, wardy is wardy, and that isn’t a defender.
Long long season ahead.

Sustandard management, substandard team! Again
same old! Watched it down the pub! Nothing eminating from the Mol about any loan signings! Mcarthy blaming officials for game going against us, that may be but, it is down to him, he chooses the team and again they have been found wanting. Useless. This team is going nowhere except down.

It’s shame we are trying to make Henry a scape goat. Much like Paul Butler. We’re mid table couple of wins a we will forget what this is all about. Henry is not playing well, it is Mick’s job to give him a break, same goes for Hunt. Hammill and Guede to start next game, and bring Zubes back.
The treatment of Henry yesterday was shameful and utterly unjustified. His loyalty and efforts over the last 5 years have been unsurpassed, and he is from Wolverhampton. I agree he needs a rest from the team, but what a disgraceful vote of thanks he was given yesterday. Why people are having a go at Stearman and Berra is beyond me. Johnson was bought to win tacles and headers. At the moment he is losing both and conceding goals against us, worse than any of the others. The other worry is the form of Jarvis who persists in making space for crosses then NOT looking up to pick someone out. He stares at his feet, kicks it aimlessly and watches it go straight to defenders or over the heads of everyone. Back to the drawing board for him and Johnson.

A carbon copy of the QPR game losing the game in the midfield, O’Hara didn’t have a good game at all, but at least when Henry went off it freed him up a bit, all Henry does is go backwards which invites pressure onto us.
Ady and Hammill coming on changed the game – by then it was too late. Mick knew at half time it wasn’t working so why not make the changes then!! the guy is so stubborn, hopefully he will give these 2 a starting place against WBA as they are creative and want to go forward but he probably won’t – it will be the usual favourites – poor management…

Three home defeats at this stage of the season is totally unacceptable.
My nine year old granddaugher and her dad have their first season tickets but everytime the opposition scores, she cries. By May time i reckon she will have shed buckets of tears and all because of the most stubburn manager in Molineux history.
This idiot must go this week because rest assurred Milijas and Doherty wont replace Stearman and Henry, MM’S two favourite jokers at albion next sunday.
Personally i dont expect MM to change things and it will be the same old sunday dish again.
Quit now Mick your time is up or your stubborness will bring you down anyway.
Dougan, Richards, Wagstaffe, some fans used to be critical of this trio but what would they think today of Doyle, Fletcher and Jarvis.
i know which threesome i would stick in but no doubt stubborn Mick wouldnt have a clue.

What a frustrating game! Not just the Ref’s but not converting the chances we had… and we had many of them! The Ref’s were disgusting! it really frustrates me when a Ref can have such an impact on the game and it’s final outcome. They should be there to enforce the rules and nothing more, he may as well have had a black and white striped shirt on!
But we did fail to convert our chances and we should have won comfortably. There was some worrying times when we gave the ball away with silly mistakes such as Henry leading to the second goal! Can’t believe how the crowd cheered him off and Geudi on =)
It wasn’t as bad as people on here are saying we played some good footy and Newcastle hardly had possession! we were out playing them but just very unlucky in all areas of the game. It was a good atmosphere though the crowd were very noisy at the start and end I was screaming when our second goal went in. Can’t believe it was denied poor Doyle!
Hammill & Guedioura should start the next game defo! so much more energy when they came on it was a different game! and it wasn’t because Newcastle went off the boil, they were never on it! We should have won today but the bad omen is well and truly with us at the moment.
One more thing… anyone see Match of the Day? Doesn’t the new stand look a bit crap on the far side? massive concrete block where the disabled seats are going I think, but the wall is huge and look terrible in my opinion. Hopefully it will look better when finished but it is a huge concrete block where the cameras look a lot of the time.

Am I the only thinking MM has 2 games to turn this round or let someone else have a go? He is tactically naive and blinded by favouritism. Henry, Berra, Kightly and Hunt have been worse than useless this season – why has it taken Hamill 7 games to get on the pitch in a struggling side? He was our best player yesterday!

Here we go again – the moaners are out in force.
The simple facts are:-
1. We deserved at least a point, as acknowledged by Pardew.
2. We should have had a penalty.
3. Doyle’s disallowed goal should have stood.
4. Their goalie played a blinder.
There’s nothing Mick (or anybody else) could have done about those four things, but change any one and we would probably have got something from the game. Just accept the fact that rotten luck happens sometimes and stop slagging off everybody in sight.

When will Mick learn that henry is not and never will be a premiership player. Anybody at the game yesterday would have seen the difference when Henry went off and Guedioura came on. O’Hara had a bad day but I’m convinced it’s beacause he’s played with Henry too much and he knows ha cannot rely on him being in the right place at the right time so tries things that naybe he shouldn’t and he’s gatting caught out. hunt wasn’t at the races yesterday either. Hammill was the other breath of fresh air yesterday. him and Guedioura have to start the next game.
Ref was awful – I have never seen a more clear penalty than that, and the linesman that flagged that the ball was out of play for our ‘equaliser’ should be shot. haven’t heard a single person, pundit, Wolves fan or Newcastle fan that has said we weren’t screwed yesterday. Having said that, we made a rod for our own back with the poor first half again.
A creditable fight back and some BAD decisions BUT the game was lost with the second goal – when O’Hara literally gave the ball away he made no attempt to win it back and just watched Newcastle score and put the game out of reach. He’s looking like a flash in the pan and the flash has LONG gone.
Henry and O’Hara do not work as a central midfield partnership, both want too many touches of the ball and when they do they are closed down quickly and lose posession. the improvement was there to see when Guediora was bought on as he wanted to go forward at every opportunity, if he was given the ball under pressure he didn’t try anything to fancy (O’Hara take note) it was touch and pass. Hamill was also an improvement his crossing quality is so much better than Jarvis, i don’t think Jarvis should be dropped though as he looks more dangerous than Hunt.
Defence wise Stearman should not have started as soon as we conceded the first goal his head dropped, Zubar needs to be returned to the team he is far superior than Stearman, Johnson was at fault for both goals losing Ba for the 1st then being sent for a bag of sweets for the 2nd by Gutierraz. but the goals only came due to our midfield giving the ball away. Berra did ok but got turned too many time by Best as he got too close to him. Ward played well could’nt fault his efforts.

So much negativity.Ok we could have defended better for the goals, & maybe finished better. It just wasn’t our day. We played well & desreved to win. Their goalie had a blinder, the ref owes us in future games for his bad day at the office. I’m dissapointed as every one else is, but don’t loose that faith of our undefeated 1st 3 games when we’ll all saying top 10. It will come wright. Except for the QPR game, were playing better, more attacking football. The game as gone. Won’t it be nice to give does Baggies a pounding & get back on track

When are wolves going to ban ref Mark Halsey from Molineux?. Because hes totally bias against us.Last season he reffed the Arsenal game when he failed to send off Fabragas for a horrific tackle on Stephen Ward and penalise wolves every time touched a Arsenal player. Then against Tottenham failed to send off Hutton when he was last man and dragged back Milijas, then disallowed a winner by Stearman when he being fouled the keeper, but Halsey seen it the other way again.

I flew over for the game and was deeply disappointed. We were inept in midfield. Conceded possession far too cheaply.

Gotta learn to play keep ball around midfield.

What’s it going to take to sack thick Mick, before anybody starts on me for calling for his head, I’m a season ticket holder and I pay my hard earned money to keep watching defeat after defeat after defeat.
Mick keeps playing players who are not on form, and the defence is just as shocking as last season. If Mick thinks that he is happy with his players he needs to take a good hard look at himself, for a start I would drop O’Hara he needs a good bloody kick up the arse, he also needs to start players like Hammill and Guedioura, as for Milijas he ain’t even on the bench, I find that unacceptable he is a class player.
Mick you are starting to do my head in, the Numpties as Mick calls us have been crying out for Hammill and Guedioura to start matches, look what happened yesterday, they came on and changed the game.
Everybody can go on about the penalty decision and the disallowed goal, but the damage had already been done with the school boy defending.
I’m really fed up with the happy clappers, who are happy to watch this complete rubbish, where I sit in the South Bank a lot of fans are starting to turn against Mick, another few defeats and I think the fans will turn.
If he carry’s on picking the same team he started with yesterday then we are in for a tough season.
One last thing we need to know if in the close season was there any more money for Mick to buy players or was he told that signing the three players was all he could do, as I’m starting to think that Morgan won’t spend anymore money because of the stadium re build, I know he said the money has been put to one side for the new North Bank and would’nt affect buying players, but I think it has.
If we lose againt WBA who frankly are just as bad as us at the moment, I’ll expect Mick to be sacked on the following Monday morning.

The team’s attacking play was better than previous games, the Newcastle goalkeeper was on fine form and we should have had a penalty plus the goal that was disallowed. However the defence need some serious work on the training ground or Mick has to try out Doherty and maybe Zubar in the centre to give us pace, with the exception of Wardy no one out of the back four could come away from this game with their head held high.
So Johnson, Berra and Stearman need to buck their ideas up, Stearman did start out as a fullback but ever since he’s being at the Mol he’s played mostly at centre half so the lad is more use to that position and sadly maybe not good enough play an extra position.
The centre of midfield needs to be looked at as well, Henry and O’Hara couldn’t keep hold of the ball well of enough and does any of the players mark up properly there were far too many holes through the midfield and defence. Too many players were half a sleep and it took us too long to get going in the second half for the fight back, also fans are getting fed up with the constant favouritism of Mick with players hence the ironic cheers for Henry being subbed, and no Milijas on the bench? Another injury from the training ground?
We need something from the derby game next weekend if we loose that one and get off to bad start against Swansea at the next home game then we might be hearing the fans chanting for Mick’s head, in fairness he has had a tighter budget this season but then again two players brought in Johnson and O’Hara are on a combined wage of 75 grand a week, those two should be performing better than what we are seeing at the moment.

Another fine mess Mick has got us into. Another mummbling performance on TV camera and what did he say, what he always says, “nothing.” As always the defence had wide open spaces withthe usual non paying spectators hanging round, you know them as called . It is just a shambles. I have questioned Doyles ability for a couple of seasons . He looks good in action , but like beuaty,it is only skin deep
O’Hara has come through a footballing system which encouraes movement and quik passing, unfortunately, his talents are being wasted. Why? Henry, was he on the field of play? Whilst the referee and liesmen influenced the game, the los is down to the manager. The buck has to stop there, does he repent or apolagise, no, he believes in fairies

Only one player bought from last season means we are still a bottom six side so it’s in the lap of the gods if we stay up.
It’s time for a change. I felt that if we are still struggling come mid November we get another manager to give him time to decide what he wants and to have cash in January to get them. Martin O’neil really should be our target.
Why did we not get Dann from Brum. Why don’t we play at least one of our playmakers instead of the workhorses.
I think the stand is to blame. The only ambition is we stay up. With Norwich,QPR and Swansea clearly up for the fight, I don’t think we will.

The ref was a joke and we can be deemed ‘unlucky’ to lose again. Anyway, doing things on the cheap is really starting to bite now, particularly in defence. We have been deceived by the board who promised TWO centre halves and a quality left back.

I’m seeing the same mistakes as last year. We gave 2 goals away and then wake up!!!!!
Nobody sees demba ba’s run for the first goal and if ward stays at his post he has a good chance to clear it off the line.
The 2nd goal o’hara and henry were at fault for giving the ball away to set up the goal.
We were very hard done by with refereeing decisions in the end but i thought we made krull look like a top class keeper. Nobody was calm in front of goal to place the ball in a spot they just blasted it at Krull.
We need craddock, Zubar,Seb fit as soon as possible.
I’d like us to go back to 4-5-1 to get a result
i’d like to see johnson/craddock in the middle of defence.
I dont think ohara/henry are good enough in the middle and would like to see a 3rd player in there like miljas.
Hamill did well and should get his chance next game.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Newcastle are a very good side who are in form. Attacking we played well and with so many close chances the scoreline could have been very different.
Henry started because he’s playings as a defensive midfielder and its important to keep things tight at first. Yes Guiddi could have started but then we’d have 2 attacking mid-fielders which leaves us wide open.
My criticism is with Mick. Why at 2-0 down at half time did he not make the sub then. No point staying defensive when were out of game at that point. We’d have had more time to get back in it and secure a point or 2.

you all may go on about how we were robbed and penalty this and ball was in play that, and the E & S going on about a grand stand finish.
when really the game shouldn’t have relied on all that, the players out there are makers of their own destiny, they are the ones in who we supposedly trust, and yet they just roll over and let these other teams take full advantage. we show these teams far too much respect. it has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous, from good form that would see us comfortably placed in the league to relegation form, you can all say it is early season still, but we know for a fact that teams that don’t get their act together go down.

HUNT doesnt bring anything to the table, attacking wise, he is good at winding the opposition up and running around trying to get the ball, but he is NOT a winger, poor touch, too slow, cant take people on, and poor crossing, HAMMILL!, on the other hand, good pace, good skill, can take people on, and has got a teriffic cross in his boots, and he’s not affraid to try a trick or two, if he doesnt start starting,… well…the only reason why he wouldnt be starting is because Mad Mick holds grdges against players after a bust up and plays his favourites, if u play your favourites before the better players, surely thats not a premiership manager, thats the problem with Mick, .. What do people expect ?We were playing a team that finished well above us last year and who have strengthened areas of the team which were poor last year. We on the other hand have done virtually nothing. If the last match of the season against Blackburn didnt tell the people who run our club that our defence was nowhere near good enough then nothing would. We have now lost 4 of our last 5 home games and in all of them conceding 2 or 3 goals. The club are taking us for a bunch of idiots. In Saturdays match programme Moxey said and I quote ” it is perhaps untimely that we have picked up a few unfortunate problems in quick succession which may well have affected our early season form”.You couldnt make it up. And yet there are people posting on this site who actually believe this rubbish and think the club are making progress.
By my reckoning the club spent a net figure on transfers this year of approx £8,000,000. A pitiful amount considering it is our 3rd season in this division. I would like to ask Morgan 2 questions.
1 How much of his original investment of £30,000,000 has actually been spent.
2 What was the thinking behind spending a fortune on the ground when we cant fill it and the ream was clearly not good enough. Rant over

Time for Mick to wise up and pick the players who will win us a game of football and not his favourites. Players who should be dropped – Berra, Stearman, Henry, Edwards, Hunt and Doyle. Dont think I need to explain why!! Players who should be playing – Foley, Zubar, Gued, Milijas, Hammill and Fletcher.
Personally I think we need to go 4-5-1 which although it sounds negative at first, can be as positive as any other formation. With Milijas, Gued and O’hara you have three players who can keep the ball and also be creative. Hammill and Jarvis are both direct and can take players on and make chances. Fletcher is our best goalscorer and as a lone striker is better than Doyle. I’d go with the below team for Albion which would give us the creativity, speed and flair we are currently lacking. With Foley and Ward both good at getting forward we would have 6 or 7 players attacking at any one time. Cant see this team playing mind but well, who wud be a football manager!!
Hennessey
Foley Johnson Zubar Ward
Milijas
Gued O’hara
Hammill Jarvo
Fletcher

All of you ‘so called’ fans should be ashamed of yourselves booing one of your own!!!! There were worse players on the pitch on Saturday but once again, we have to have that one player singled out, disgraceful! I really don’t know what you think it acheives, the only thing it can achieve is to knock their confidence. Get behind the lads and support em instead of criticizing them and before you all have a go, I do think we need a change in midfield, but I will NEVER boo one of my own!!

All of you ‘so called’ fans that booed on Saturday should hang your heads in shame! Booing one of your own?? There were worse players on the pitch on Saturday but I have and never will BOO ONE OF OUR OWN PLAYERS! Disgraceful! Lets get behind them at the Baggies and cheer them on instead of getting on their backs WOLVES AY WE!!!

We can dress it up any way we like, but the bottom line is this: 4 straight defeats in a row (including 3 home losses where we scored just 1 goal whilst conceding 7) Near misses, dodgy refereeing and ‘bad luck’ stories simply don’t count over that number of games because you should make your own luck. Even Swansea have put us to shame with their clean sheets record.
The madness of giving our oppo’s a 2-goal start every game trashes any game plan we had. We can blame individuals for that or accept it’s a team responsibility because you defend from the front. The bottom line is that we just didn’t buy enough quality players when we had the chance and that mistake is coming home to haunt us. Mick’s apparently “happy” with what he’s got, but I don’t know a single fan that I’ve spoken to who agrees with him.
I understand fans’ frustrations perfectly, but I can’t see how booing Karl Henry helps matters. He’s a scapegoat for widespread disillusionment in a number of areas. Nobody’s saying he’s a midfield genius, but give the guy a break, please. Mick alone is responsible for all matters team-related and the results (good or bad) so the buck stops there.
Last week we had fat cat Moxey opening his gob and having the cheek to complain about absent fans. This week, we’ve had supporters ripping Henry to bits and phoning Radio WM saying they want McCarthy out. Not good signs at a troubled Molineux, are they?
Next up, it’s the short trip to the Whorethorns. So, that’ll mean instant redemption and forgiveness -in the case of a Wolves win- or nothing short of the fury of hell awaiting Mick and the boys if things go t*ts up. It’s gonna be interesting….possibly season defining.

JIWAL – do we really have to listen to this every week? So you predicted a loss – you ALWAYS predict a loss!
I suppose a win at Weat Brom would be a fluke and that we’re bound to lose when we play Swansea?

My take-aways from the game were:
- I’d like to think the cheers when Henry was subbed were more for McCarthy’s realisation that something needed to change. Cheers of relief, more than anything. Can’t condone getting on a player’s back, if that’s what it was for.
- O’Hara was disappointing. Should have been subbed with, or even instead of Henry.
- Johnson was disappointing. On this showing, it begs the question “what was all the fuss about?”.
- Jarvo – industrious but not at his pacy, incisive, accurate best.
- Doyle – hard-working but strangely subdued.
- Mark Halsey – got it wrong when it mattered, and more than once. BRING OUT THE VIDEO REPLAY TECHNOLOGY! Been saying that for years!
- Hennessey – should have worn a cap
- Hammill – gamechanger
- Krul – matchwinner (why is there always one player who plays a complete blinder when they play us?)
We were tactically naive – again. Let’s not kid ourselves about puttin’ a shift in during the last 10 minutes – it only happened because Newcastle sat back to defend the lead – not because of any superiority on our part.
New stand looks impressive.
Have a nice day.

I notice that the other stories from Wolves camp today criticise the fans for booing. Perhaps the contributors of these stories including players and MM who between them earn vast amounts of money do not really understand true fans frustrations who can only voice their opinion on the day by either shouting or booing. The squad is clearly not good enough and whoever decided that is was should re-consider their position as a matter of some urgency. I am aware that sound finance is important but to improve the ground before the team is ridiculous.Far too much is said by the Executives about staying in the black and several successful clubs operate with a workable overdraft.
Steve Morgan has bought into a football club and to achieve success you have to spend money or end up like Coventry or Notts Forest with plenty of stadium capacity but no support. The defence is just not good enough and is three players short of improvement and I include the centre back playing alongside Roger Johnson who has been consistently been bad for 3 seasons but somehow gets picked. MM knows that a good defence is essential to both defend and support the midfield. Woeful.

Why are so many fans moaning about the redevelopment of Molineux? the board could have said no we’ll leave it a few more seasons and still sat on the money they have set aside for the stadium, they still wouldn’t have given it to the manager to spend on players! why i hear you say? because Mick has wasted so much money in the past on players he never gave a chance Maierhofer, Mouyokolo, Eastwood, Bothroyd to name a few.
the new stands will give the supporters yes YOU a much better match day experience, because at this moment the stands are a joke the seating is cramped the concourses are the same its like herding cows during halftime/fulltime and trying to get refreshments is ridiculous no point waiting your turn as its a free for all and by the time you do get served what you wanted has probably sold out, entrance to stadium is slow if you arrive late.
when it is finished i hope the club do not overprice season tickets or matchday tickets as i do expect we may struggle to fill the stadium but it will be a much nicer and safer experience for everyone.

Reading the comments i cant help but think we are generally guilty of over reacting.
A win or two and fans expectations go through the roof….and a defeat or two and its all doom and gloom.
Although difficult at times i try to get a balanced view and think our performances and state of play are somewhere inbetween.
Make no mistake there is room for improvement (isn’t there always?) but if you look at the bigger picture over a longer period than just 2-3 games i think there’s more reasons to be cheerful.
The squad is improving (steadily)
The club is financially sound
The stadium is improving
The academy is expanding….etc etc
Remember people Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Can we not be content with the above, have more patience, support the team from week to week win/draw or lose, and generally enjoy the steady progress being made at this fantastic club of ours?
PS…Whoever jeered or sarcastically clapped the substitution of Karl Henry aint supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers!….just saying.

I see McFaddon has gone…
Another Jez Moxey success story.
Probably finish up playing in Championship for more money than Tight Wad would give.

Easy next game to bounce back. This is a test. There may be a certain amount of negativity and self doubt happening somewhere with 4 defeats. We will find out lots about the character of the team against S____. Last year we should have won. This year, go there and stuff ‘em boys.
