Molineux redevelopment reaches new heights

Friday 30th September 2011, 11:30AM BST.

The new Stan Cullis stand will extend into the north east corner

Piece by piece, the roof of Molineux’s new £16 million Stan Cullis stand was today taking shape.

Steel girders are in place ready for the new roof to be lowered into place, which Wolves bosses say will be complete by November.

It means 4,000 fans located in the completed lower-tier of the new stand, who are currently exposed to the elements, will be under cover in time for Wolves’ home fixture against Sunderland on December 3.

The new stand dwarfs the two-tier Steve Bull stand which will be the next to be pulled down and rebuilt under owner Steve Morgan’s £40million overhaul of the stadium.

The girders are an imposing addition to Wolverhampton’s skyline and show how high the new steepling stands will rise as Mr Morgan tries to create an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams.

Once the new Stan Cullis stand is completed, Molineux’s capacity will rise from around 29,000 to approximately 31,700.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
