Kevin Doyle deal can help keep Wolves stars
Thursday 29th September 2011, 2:33PM BST.
Mick McCarthy today claimed Kevin Doyle’s signing of a new deal can stop Wolves becoming a selling club.
Doyle signed for four years yesterday to end speculation about his future and add to the air of stability with all the club’s star players locked into long-term contracts.
Boss McCarthy believes the £6.5m striker’s decision will help keep current stars and attract quality players.
“When I was taking to Roger Johnson in the summer, his worry was Doyle and Matt Jarvis might go,” said the boss. “I was honest and straight with him and I said ‘if Man United came in for them, we’d have to sell them. But Jamie O’Hara wouldn’t have come here if we were selling our better players. We want to re-sign them and keep them.”
