Ronald Zubar gets set to step it up
Wednesday 28th September 2011, 1:59PM BST.
Ronald Zubar today insisted he is ready to step it up for Wolves – putting him in line for Black Country derby action at the double.
The French defender made his comeback from a groin injury when he played 71 minutes of Monday’s reserve draw against Wigan.
Zubar insisted he would be ready for the bench if called upon for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle.
But the 26-year-old is more likely to see action in the reserve derby against Albion at Telford next Tuesday, which could then prime him for the real thing against the Baggies at the Hawthorns on Sunday October 16.
He said: “I feel as happy as a kid – it was my first game in a long time, since pre-season, so I’m happy to be playing again.
“The physios have worked really well with me and I feel I’m ready to play. I said to them ‘give me 45 minutes or an hour and I’ll prove I’m alright.’
“After the first half, I felt fine and we decided to carry on because I need the extra minutes in my legs for the fitness.
“We’ll see how the week goes but I feel I’m fit enough to be back in the squad, and if that’s the case, I’ll be happy.”
