Ronald Zubar gets Wolves run-out
Tuesday 27th September 2011, 9:30AM BST.
Ten-man Wolves battled back to win a hard-earned point against a more experienced Wigan side as captain-for-the-night Ronald Zubar made a 71-minute comeback.
Steve Weaver’s team played for an hour with 10 men, after goalkeeper Aaron McCarey was sent off for bringing down striker Nouha Dicko outside the area.
Wigan took an eighth-minute lead when Michael Ihiekwe allowed a long kick from goalkeeper Chris Kirkland to bounce and Dicko rounded McCarey to fire home.
Wolves levelled in the 25th minute when Ihiekwe drilled home, after Zubar’s point-blank header was tipped against the bar by Kirkland.
Then came the flashpoint, when McCarey saw red for bringing down Dicko.
Wigan regained the lead in the 59th minute when Callum McManaman’s goal-bound shot was turned in by Dicko.
Wolves hit back in the 70th minute when Ashley Hemmings powered home a header to make it 2-2.
