Wolves are back for Mick McCarthy
Monday 26th September 2011, 1:30PM BST.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy today insists his recovering side are back in the groove despite going down 2-1 at Anfield.
Saturday’s defeat was Wolves’ third in a row in the Premier League but it came with a stirring second-half fightback that saw them push Liverpool all of the way.
And McCarthy believes, if they can continue like that, it won’t be long before they return to winning ways.
He said: “The lads were terrific – it was a far better performance, much more like us and a Wolves performance.
“More like that and we will pick up points.”
McCarthy believed the first goal, an own goal by Roger Johnson, shouldn’t have been allowed because of a push by Andy Carroll in the build-up.
The Wolves boss said: “Carroll pushed him going up for the header. I was annoyed because I think if it had happened anywhere else on the pitch it would have been given as a foul.
“For the second goal we tried to play offside and didn’t do it properly. But it was an excellent second-half.”
