Liverpool 2 Wolves 1

Liverpool 2 Wolves 1

Never-say-die Wolves pushed Liverpool all the way but still fell to their third successive Premier League defeat.

An 11th minute own goal by Roger Johnson and a superb effort from Luis Suarez before half-time blew away a bright start from Mick McCarthy’s side.

But a reply from half-time substitute Steven Fletcher four minutes after the restart – ending a drought of 359 minutes without a goal for Wolves in the league – set up an absorbing second-half which swung from end to end.

Fellow half-time sub Matt Doherty enjoyed an impressive Premier League debut as Wolves, who reverted back to 4-4-2 as they chased the game at the interval.

And they put a disappointing first-half display firmly behind them to take the game to the hosts and launch a spirited fightback, that suggests their losing run will soon come to an end.

Certainly the sell-out travelling following appeared to think so, as they gave a rousing ovation to the efforts of the players at the end.

McCarthy made two changes from the side beaten 3-0 by Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

Back came Stephen Hunt and Dave Edwards for George Elokobi and Michael Kightly as the manager switched to a 4-4-1-1 formation with Edwards, making his first Premier League appearance since February 26, just behind lone striker Kevin Doyle.

Wolves had a bright start and forced the first chances of the game – and both fell to Jamie O’Hara.

But the midfielder was harshly booked for high feet for catching Andy Carroll after his free kick hit the wall.

Then a poor backpass from Jamie Carragher fell to Edwards, who quickly found Kevin Doyle.

Doyle could have shot from the angle but chose instead to square to the on-rushing O’Hara, who couldn’t get a clean contact on the ball and his right foot shot into the ground flew straight at goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

After Adam’s shot was blocked by Christophe Berra, Liverpool took the lead.

It was an unlucky one on Wolves, after Adam’s drive which was going wide was headed into the corner of the net by Johnson, leaving goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey helpless.

The Reds began to take control and Wolves had a major let-off in the 14th minute, when Andy Carroll was completely unmarked to power a header goalwards, forcing Hennessey into a diving save on the line.

Suarez, who won applause from all four sides for an outrageous back-heel that took him past Johnson but too close to Hennessey, then screwed wide from Downing’s left-wing cross.

Karl Henry became the second Wolves booking and it was a soft one too as he barely caught Adam, before Lucas soon followed him into referee Kevin Friend’s notebook for flattening Richard Stearman as the game briefly became sloppy.

After sustained possession from Liverpool, Wolves’ first chance since the goal came in the 35th minute.

Edwards’s shot hit a defender in a packed area after Stephen Hunt rolled a free kick square, when it looked as if Doyle had been caught just inside in the area.

But, just three minutes later, Liverpool doubled their lead with a superb goal from Suarezin the 38th minute.

Berra played the £23million Uruguay international onside from Jose Enrique’s long pass and was turned one way then the other, as the Liverpool No 7 slalomed stylishly on the edge of the six-yard before slamming the ball last Hennessey at his near post.

Wolves tried to hit back quickly but an effort from Edwards sailed high and wild into the Kop.

Liverpool returned to the attack to end the half seemingly in total control, as they forced two more chances in time added on.

Suarez poked wide from a loose ball when Johnson blocked Stewart Downing’s cross, before Carroll fired wide from the edge of the box.

McCarthy reacted to the scoreline by making two half-time substitutions, as Matt Doherty and Steven Fletcher replaced Stearman and Edwards with the team reverting to 4-4-2.

Doherty, who signed a contract until 2014 this week, was making his Premier League debut and along with his other Irish team-mates, was being watched by Republic of Ireland scout Frank Stapleton.

Wolves again started a half brightly and the game sprung to life following a goal from Fletcher.

The £7million club-record signing lashed home a right-foot shot into the roof of the net from 10 yards, after Henry retrieved O’Hara’s cross and the former captain’s centre bounced off Jose Enrique for Hunt to cross.

The game then became end to end with Hennessey making a great save to deny Suarez an open goal, after dropping Enrique’s cross under pressure from Carroll, who then rocked the goalkeeper’s right-hand post with a thundering header.

Hennessey later did well to get a hand to Stewart Downing’s angled shot from Adam’s pass, as the Reds broke at speed.

Wolves, who were having their best spell of the game, threatened again when Doyle’s shot on the turn was blocked from Matt Jarvis’ cross.

McCarthy’s side enjoyed plenty of possession but their first chance of the half didn’t arrive until the 69th minute, when Berra beat Reina to Jarvis’s hanging centre but his header drifted wide.

At the other end, Doherty just got a head to take the sting out of Suarez’s header and deflect it out for a corner.

Then at the death, Doherty twice blocked Carroll’s attempts to shoot to complete a hugely successful top flight debut.

But despite a huge effort, Wolves couldn’t get the equaliser they were chasing.

Overall a poor performance against “SUAREZ”.
Stearman was rightly taken off as it proved that he is not a rightback..19year old came in and had a good match…Doherty will only get better I wouyld still say “FOLEY” is the man in his rightful position when fit.
Doyle again proved that statistics dont lie!
Today I will give him “ONE ATTEMPT AT GOAL”.
Fletcher should have started and I am not being wise after the event.Majority of the non-numpties called for this change also…He is not contributing much to the team.
Hunt was only average apart from the cross for the goal and “HAMILL” should have played and dissapointed he did not come on.
Adlene came on 81 minutes too late.
Has O’HARA had another “POOR” game yet “MM” still went with him.
Henry turned in a much improved performance showed fight and desire. So after last week’s shenanigans he showed alot of “CHARACTER”.
Roger Johnson is not playing well and seems to be very unsure at the moment hoofing the ball in no mans land, and currently he is showing he lacks compusure.
Jarvis had a poor first half but improved in the second half,Jarvis I still insist you need to be playing at pace and taking men on as that is when you are at your best.
I am convinced “MM” does not like to play players with “SKILL”.Meaning the likes of “ADLENE,MILIJIAS,HAMILL,FLETCHER” will always be favoured by other players.
“MM” got it wrong again today not so much the formation but selection.
I still know that this “WOLVES” team are capable of much more and this will only come if “MM” is sent packing.

Better in the second half, should of deserved a point in the end on the second half performance but the defence certaintly doesn’t look good enough for top ten. Guedioura came on did well nothing okay he scored a cracker against Millwall but it’s I’m not convince he’s premier league standard is Edwards? Jarvis played well in the second half and Fletcher made an impact.
Sorry for Hammill it looks like it’s going to be tough for him in getting Premier time on the pitch this season he should of been brought I thought but it was better and take that into the Newcastle game but that won’t be easy. Concerned about the defending, when Johnson is up against pace and quality ge has struggled and today likewise but better than QPR

As I said in a post before the game started, what on earth was McCarthy doing playing Edwards, he like Kightly has just come back from a long injury, and playing a lone striker again.

Plus I don’t think Edwards is good enough anyway.

McCarthy lost us this by his selection and team set up, he seems to have learned nothing from last season, very poor 1st half again, then when we are behind he puts on a striker, later he takes off Hunt, as he will never take Henry off which he should have done.

A much better display from Jarvis and O’Hara in second half.

I don’t know what is wrong with Henry, stupid foul again, apart from a couple of good passes today, he seems lazy in his passing and chasing players back, he has lost all positional sense so we not breaking down any attacks in the midfield.

So we put Adele on at 80 mins, and take off an attacker, 2-1 down.

Berra seems to going backwards again after some good performances.

Surely when Foley is fit he must be RB, Stearman poor today.

However to some up, until McCarthy stops selecting the “in crowd”, we will never move forward.

This defeat could very well have been avoided, the first goal conceded was horrendous as “JOHNSON” got it completely wrong and showed he is lacking compusure.
Doherty managed complete compusure a sure sign of a good player.
The lad never flapped against “DOWNING and SUAREZ”.
Suarez showed what a player can do with a brain, our player with a brain “MILIJIAS” does not get a look in.
O’HARA as to be rested has he just does not look at the races,it is suicide playing players who are doing more wrong then right and the blame for this as to lie at “MM” door.

”Yes its three defeats in three games, but it was the manner of today’s defeat, what a sharp contrast in the last two performances, last week the whole squad were awful (Hennessey excluded), but today ,yes another defeat but it was a much improved performance”, especially in the second half, with several good 8/10 performances, with Hennessey, Henry,O’Hara, vying for the m.o.t.m.award,and another well taken goal by Steven Fletcher, clearly our best ‘striker/goalscorer’ in the club, and when fit should always be in the team? And what an excellent BPL debut by young Matt Doherty only 20yrs old, who looks to be top player in the making, Robbie Dennison said he looked like he’d been playing there for years, plus he was against an England International in Stewart Downing. So lets hope we can take the positives from today’s game into next weeks match v Newcastle, who are on a good run, but every run comes to an end, lets hope its next week. Again i must pass on a remark about today’s referee Kevin Friend, a( Championship level referee at best ), who it sounded on the radio made a howler, by allowing the first goal, when Johnson was clearly pushed by Carroll? But we all know the standard of refs is shocking, and they will always give big decisions to the so called ”Big Clubs” UTW:

To be fair, todays performance shows that the QPR match is still our only poor performance of the season, and one poor performance doesnt make a bad team. Im gutted that Guedioura didnt start, what more can he do than his performance in midweek, but still doesnt start. After all Micks talk about the cup match being an ideal time for players to stake a claim aswell. Obviously dropping players from one bad performance can have a very negative effect also, but Guedioura without a doubt deserves that starting role.

To be fair to Mick though, he gets to see these players all week in training, and we only see them in matches. If the players we want to play, arent performing in training then Mick is quite right to go with his team selection. I have faith that our run of losses will come to an end sooner rather than later. Newcastle have yet to lose a match this season, I think that we stand as good a chance as any to change that stat.

God!! I am sick of reading the negativity from people on here anyone would think you wern’t wolves fans!! For gods sake get behind the team and get positive. Today was a good performance and we deserved a point Johnson was fouled and it should not have been 1 – 0 if that hadn’t happened we would have drew and no one would be moaning (but they will because they are wolves fans). It was Liverpool away and we put up a real good fight and we should be proud of where we are. It could be worse we could be Birmingham!!! now they have got things to worry about!

So just give it a rest with the sacking Mick and having a go out our players! we don’t need it and don’t deserve it. Micks the manager not you guys he chose the team so live with it. He is in a better position than any of you to know who should be playing and who is on the bench. Change the record!

I also heard it was a push on Johnson but only heard bits and pieces of the game today.
Every time i caught the game on the radio first half i thought it was going to be a heavy defeat so was pleased with the second half display.
Young Doherty made a good debut for us so i wonder where that leaves Stearman who was given the runaround today.
With Doherty, Foley and Zubar all able to play in that position he will probably be backup to Johnson and Berra.

Much improved performance. The practice of bringing in unfit players that are coming back from long term injuries and are clearly not fully fit seems unwise. We have a couple of good youngsters that would probably do well given the chance. In the close season MM stated that he was looking for two central defenders and although he he signed one that leaves one that we have not and at this early stage we are leaking goals from the middle of the defence.

Apart from the loss to QPR, much as we should have expected. Interesting that some comments were made about Mick getting a better response once we went 4-4-2. Last season he always kept Fletcher on the bench and he just kept coming on to score. Doyle DOES NOT SCORE, so it’s hard to see how he could play lone striker. At one point he was 7 yards out and only had to swing his foot but the chance went by.

I will repeat an earlier statement of mine…its no good being the richest man in the graveyard!! The graveyard as far as Wolves are concerned is anywhere outside the premiership! Roll on January, and hopefully the premiership quality players WE WERE PROMISED LAST SUMMER. Even O’Hara is beginning to show why Spurs were quite happy to let him go, for me his form has dipped dramatically in the last few games. On a positive note its good to see Doherty getting good reviews for his display. Its about time MM dropped Doyle to either an attacking midfield role or the bench, as he is proving yet again how much of a non goal scorer he is!

I just feel we have a decent squad now, and to be fair to him, he has assembled it BUT, he has no clue what tactics to use with what personel!
playing EDWARDS today was a huge mistake, not only because he has been out for so long but i really dont think he is good enough anyway, this is now KIGHTLY & EDWARDS he has done this with, its so infuriating because there are better players there ready to be play but for what ever reason stubborn MM wont play them much! (hammill, milijas, adlene) to name a few.

Time n time again when MM has a decision to make he gets it wrong!

I will give MM a pass on not starting Fletcher since at his post match interview he implied he could not go for 90minutes. however, our cautious lineup really cost us this match. Our first half display was really disappointing and ineffective. Granted Liverpool’s first goal should not have stood as Johnson was clearly fouled by Carroll and it seemed to lead to a lack of belief in our players.

Doyle was poor today and Jarvis only came to life after Fletcher scored a quality goal. in the second half we seemed transformed and Liverpool for long periods were second best. Young Doherty was impressive especially being thrown into a losing situation against very experienced Premiership players.

Problem is we need to be more expansive in our play and put two halves together on a CONSISTENT basis. We have to settle down otherwise we will quickly be down in the bottom three which will put the squad under massive pressure. I am still not convinced that our squad has the depth to be other than a side that will continue to flirt with the relegation places. Fletcher needs to start and he needs a player up front that will be more productive than Doyle.

As for King Kennys “revolution”, on the evidence today there is a lot more to do as Liverpool were not that impressive apart from Suarez who is top quality.

Hennessey is fast improving and was in very good form today but Johnson and the rest of the defense have to step it up for the whole game.

Until the first goal I thought the balance of play was fairly even between the two sides. Johnson can count himself doubly unlucky. The referee missed (or ignored) Carrolls push in the back and then unfortunately for Johnson he instinctively tries to clear Adams shot only to divert it into the net.

After that Liverpool took control of the first half. The second goal was mainly down to Suarez skill and should be acknowledged as such.

But Wolves can feel a little bit unlucky not to get a share of the points for the second half performance which was full of spirit. Fletchers goal certainly lifted Wolves and with bit more run of the ball we could have got a second.

I don’t normally complain about referee’s, but I thought he had a poor game. He booked some players who should’nt have been booked (including Henry) and not others who should.

At the end of the match all the supporters around where I was, applauded the players off the pitch. What a contrast from the previous week and fully deserved.

did the manager get it wrong for the 2nd game running ???
can anyone tell me what edwards did to deserve a start? 45 average mins in 7 months, he was supposed to be the link between midfield and attack, but if you have no vision or passing ability this dose not work, he played so far forward first half that we might as well of started with fletcher anyway.
only when fletcher came on and there defence had 2 strikers to worry about did jarvis get any space, hence our rally in the second half,
stop bending over backwards to accomodate your favourite players mick and select on ability, we started our season well with our 4-4-2 and as long as you can put that starting 11 out you should stick to it,

We are witnessing the same fare of last year. Lot of good football but no points. When will the Wolves management realise that goals are the most important thing in the game? When will they admit that we need a striker more than a beautiful stand? With that expenditure we could have surely found a good goal-catcher during summer. If goals will not be coming the new stand and ground improvements will be a sheer waste of money especially if we go down. Regarding MM he has been around now for quite some time. We should give him a big pat on the back and let in somebody with new ideas. Nobody has any permanency in top management and MM is no exception. Appreciation ok but life must go on.

Watched the game here in Australia – in the 1st half they killed us in the 2nd half they couldn’t live with us. There is always one sure thing with Wolves no matter who the manager is – when we derserve nothing (QPR & others) we get nothing, when we deserve something (Liverpool & others) we still get nothing. Ref didn’t help either – clearly different rules for one club playing at home. Move on boys you’re better than results suggest. Doherty looked superb at RB when he came on, well done lad, maybe time to bring in young Hammil & Adlene.

Make no mistake a glorious defeat is still a defeat however you look at it. A lot is made on here about people criticising MM and so called moaning and whinging with the insinuation that they are not real fans. This is rubbish and to me it proves the passion and the love for the Wolves that they have when they feel the need to air their views the way they do. There are also people on here who can’t see the wood for the trees, who believe that everything Macarthy does is right and should not be criticised for it. These same people still believe that our current form is “Just a blip” and everything will be ok along with a top 10 finish. Well these people need to wake up. We are not a top ten team under the current leadership though i believe the potential is there with the right tactics, team selection and coaching. We are bottom third of the table and no beter than that but this is ok to the people in charge as long as we keep making money and collecting huge bonuses for staying in this League.
I honestly believe we have bluffed our way to survival for the last two years and as any half decent poker player will tell you, you can only bluff for so long before your limitations are found out and you end up losing everything.
We owe Mick Macarthy a great deal of thanks for taking us this far but i believe that he cannott take us any further and it is time for a change. It happened years ago with Graham Turner (Who we owe more to than we will ever owe to MM) so sentiment should not be an issue here.

Starting to get echoes of last season…. a promising start, followed by some brave defeats (I exclude QPR from this) and a relegation scrap for the rest of the season!

Don’t want to be a moaner or a prophet of doom, but when are we as a football club ever going to set our sights on finishing higher than 17th in the Prem?

I fear another long hard season…. lots of huff and puff, lots of putting in s shift, lots of “I’m not going to criticise my players for their honesty and effort” and ultimately lots of defeats!!

It would be too much to say Newcastle is a must win game but we certainly need to break this worrying run of defeats. The Geordies will be a tough nut to crack, with their confidence sky high after an unbeaten start… if I was offered a point I would take it now (would love 3 tho’).

Dropped Jarvis & O’hara, don’t think they have been as effective in last few games, & put, not quite fit Edwards on bench. The dropped players would be more detirmened to try even harder. The picked players would give 110% to keep their place, & relise their efforts in Carling cup wasn’t for nothing.People say that it was only against Millwall, but they are top players. Sir Geoffrey Howe made a speech in the House of Commons in 1991 after his resignation accusing Margaret Thatcher (wrong in my view) of sending the batsman out to bat only to find that the captain had broken the bat before he got to the crease. McCarthy, with his favourites and his stubborn and somewhat baffling lack of use of more creative players, is breaking the bat of Wolves. I fear a more intuitive manager would have dropped Karl Henry weeks ago and a more ambitious owner than Steve Morgan would have invested in the team, with the trophy of finishing mid-table a minimum aspiration for a club in their 3rd season in the Premier League. First wanna say we had a good comeback in the second half after a rather poor first. Have to say i dont get it WHY Edwards got a start before Guedioura, surely everyone can see Adlene has a lot more to offer in terms of quality and flair.

Also, Doyler is way out of form and would like to see Fletch alone on top against newcastle with Guedioura as an attacking mid behind.
Give Hammill a game now so he can show what he can do.

Very good debut by young Doherty, promising guy, lets hope he continue his development.
Jarvis was running Kelly off the pitch in the second half. Henry had a good game. Hennessey made some saves but surely should have got Suarez goal at first post. Maybe time to rest Hennessey and give De Vries a shot soon?

And to the whole team: Have the confidence of passing the ball around and guts to dribble in the final third of the pitch, dont pass it backwards until its being hoofed up by Henners..anyway 3 points on saturday, come on!

The one positive from the game was a great debut from Doherty. Let’s hope Mick doesn’t forget about him now as he deserves to be in the team on merit. We really need to stop the rot now and beat Newcastle next up. They are a very free scoring side so even though we are at home do we go 4-5-1? In a 4-5-1 formation Edwards offers more in terms of getting forward and covering ground, he also is a capable goal scorer.

Guedioura IMO is much more of a challenger for a place in central midfield – Henry or O’Hara dropped.

Fletcher showed again that he is a more prolific goalscorer than Doyle. Doyle needs to be much more selfish in front of goal, his contribution in holding the ball up is wasted if he can’t create and convert chances.

Stearman does not look ready to play right back and we need Zubar or Foley back ASAP – Doughty made a good debut but needs to be introduced slowly otherwise his confidence will quickly be lost.

Guediora needs to show he can close down play as well as Henry does but he must be due a start (not on the right wing!).

Berra is playing better than Johnson, Johnson looks nervous and needs games to settle in and find his best form.

Jarvis started to run at Kelly in the second half, hopefully this will signal a return to form.

Encouraging second half but we need points against Newcastle.

    Dear Sir Billy Quiet,Finchy,
I would like to take this oppurtunity to say”I beleive Mick Mccarthy as done a wonderful job in getting Wolves into the premiership.”
Mick mccarthy as also been at the helm for the two seasons we have SURVIVED.
However, the two seasons we have stayed in the league have been by the skin of our teeth.
I and majority of the wolves fans would be alot more accurate and honest by saying “We were fortunate in both seasons to stay in the league,it was a case of edge of the cliff stuff”.
One as to thank Mick Mccarthy for his efforts in trying to improve wolves and having succeeded to an extent.
I must also say that I and majority of the fans on here do not expect Europe or even the winning of the cup,all of us would be more than content with acheivieing mid-table.
This in my humble opinion is very possible,it is not happening under the current management team as the last two seasons and the last few games have shown.
In the first season it was probably premature to call for Mick’s head, after having witnessed the two seasons and taking into account Mick’s selections, buying of players during our premiership period, not playing certain players even when the one’s that are in the team are off form, insisting on playing players out of position,(after all this is the premiership the toughest league)players who have trained for a certain position all their lives and our bought to play in their specialised position have found themselves playing in another position.
Also Mick as displayed a tendency to contradict himself over this period, such as “I will only play players that are 110% fit and have had some game time under their belts after injuries”.
This obviously does not apply to,Doyle,Henry,Edwards,Ward,Hunt,Stearman,Berra,Kites,as these players have come back into the team after injuries and seem to get in after being back in FULL training for a few days.
Edwards and Kites are a prime example of this serious long term injuries yet Edwards walks straight into the team after 45minutes!
Yet we have Adlene,Milijias and Hamill just to name 3 who are fit and have shown sharpness and form and dont get a look in.
Take Doyle for instance 15 goals in 67 games, yet he is never dropped, even you two will admit that he is completely out of form!
These are only a few concerns of mine,as I am not looking just at the fact we are in the premier league,Mick as many responsibilities as the clubs Manager,One of those being EQUAL to everyone.
You may say the team spirit is good and it may well be,you cant say that all players are content with their treatment by Mick, likes of Milijias,Hamill,SEB,Foley these players deserve a chance and support of the manager, would SEB get the same number of games that Doyle as for not scoring??
Such things will lead the club in only one direction soon back to the dark days.
We have been out of this league for so long that I dread the day we may get relegated,My father waited for 25yrs for us to get back into the top league, when we did under Dave Jones he passed away a month later.
You know what he was so happy on his hospital bed that may It was unbeleivable.
Football is part of life and that is the way,its not life or death,it certainly is a provider of boost, happiness fun and laughter along with joy.
So Mick as to be safe guarding our position,by doing things properly and being fair to all concerned.
All we ask for Mick is “Pick players in there positions, pick players who are in form and our demonstrating so on the pitch and keep it simple by going out and striving to win every game”.
Over the last season or two our team as gone out and not turned up at all one only as to look at the “QPR” game.
Yes we have played well in certain games, but generally speaking we consistenly perform poorly during some part of the game and manage to look cluless..This is disturbing,This as become a trend,so in my humble opinion their are many reasons to consider Mick’s position.
So I do not consider this to be negative.
I am not getting on the bandwagon after one performance I am taking into account from our last ten games from our promotion season till this saturday.

no73 Sir Billy, IMO some good comments there.I think Guadioura through the middle in a 4 4 2 will make too many mistakes and we will then be prone to a counter attack. His best position in my opinion would be in the hole behind a lone striker. That way his runs would be more effective and we could make best use of his shooting
    ability.

I too get berrated on here for stating what the majority of us feel.

I’m amazed how deluded Jez Moxey is becomming too. Writing in the E&S and on radion WM today he’s moaning about the falling attendances due to pubs televising the games live.

Well, that may play a small factor, however the main problem Jez is the clubs complete lack of ambition to push on from our promotion three years ago and the dreadful football regularly served up by Mick and his championship buddies.

Virtually nothing has been spent this year on a squad that has been cut in size and that as Wanderer in Eire correctly states, has survived by the skin of its teeth two years running.

I’ve already seen some shocking performances this year and expect a lot more of them based on the fact our squad is paper thin and Mick’s blind stubborness to play quality over his favourite players, over and over and over again.

For all Mick has done for us, to move the club on a level requires a new manager. Something that isn’t going to happen until Moxey wakes up and realises just why the attendances are falling!

RichWolf64 – Im confident that our matches being televised in pubs is a huge factor in our attendances, as well as the current job market. Last season, some pubs had forked out to get every wolves match live, but this season, it seems that every pub in Wolverhampton has, and they are all advertising the fact aswell. I have nothing against the pubs doing this as the tickets are very expensive, and at least it give some supporters a chance to watch the match who would otherwise not be able to afford to, but I think the drop in attendances is due to the pubs quite a bit more than you seem to think.

JIWAL – Wow, you must be Mystic meg, what a prediction, Wolves losing to Liverpool, You should have put some money on it, Im sure you could have made a fortune, as I doubt any of the bookies would have considerd a top team like Liverpool at home would be able to overcome Wolves. Your a little bit dim arent you. Are you trying to make up for all the times Mick has proven you wrong with these predictions of yours? Anyone would think that were bottom of the league having lost against the worst teams in the league, but lets face it, not many teams are going to beat Spurs and Liverpool this season, so in reality the QPR match is the only bad result we have had.

jiwal (87) spot on ,a poor team made worse by the old pals selection policy,McCarthy will never try and win anything using ability and talent.so all these good performances from players coming into the team will count for nothing , doyle is a joke he almost managed to get in fletchers way for our goal.and the morons carry on ,how many think we will slaughter newcastle, its almost beyond belief !bottom of the league by 1st december unless McCarthy changes or goes,i prefer the latter

Wolfhedd – agree with you regarding the Pubs showing the match – it will cause a drop in attendances.

I also think that there is general confusion about the availability of tickets with the ground development ongoing. Wolves need to make it clear that tickets are available on general sale. All the talk about seating availability has probably led to some people thinking every game is sold out.

Jez needs to invest in some marketing!! maybe a few billborads and adverts in the E&S.

    Being there is all important!!

I see that you keep your spirits up by claiming credit whenever Wolves lose.

Slightly deluded way of looking at things but whatever ‘floats your boat’.

Just think how depressed you could be if you followed Blues? give it a try you know it makes sense!

    #78 wanderer in eire – wow… long post! =)

But there is no need to tell us what football means to people. Everyone knows how much football consumes our thoughts. Which is why we post on here…

It is obvious that there are 2 groups of the negative people here. 1 group if happy to slag off their own team and call the sacking of everyone including the ball boys. The 2nd group are quite harsh in their critique of the teams performance (QPR aside) but don’t see anything but a dark cloud over the molinuex all the time. Just look at post #87 JIWAL proves all points raised.

I hope we do beat Newcastle on Sat’ not just for the 3 points but to hopefully quieten down the negativity.

#79 chris hoggard – disagree… you don’t need any negativity at all, Critique yes!

    Well said #88

I love people posting who they think should play and what they think of positions and formations, it great. But if the manager doesn’t agree with you don’t ask for him to be sacked.

I do agree though it is so expensive! I managed to get a couple of tickets for Newcastle in the Temp stand £68!!! No way I was watching Millwall for £15 either!

79 Chris I think you have a pretty balanced view and I generally agree wit you. I tend to post positive stuff because I can’t bear all the utterly negative posters. JIWAL is a perfect example today. If we lose the next game we will be on 1 point a game – yes JIWAL. And if we lose all the rest we will finish the season on 7 points and be the level worst ever. What do we gain by this thinking? The same people said we wouldn’t go up, wouldn’t stay up, wouldn’t stay up again. Those of us (I know you are included) who have been here for years are sick of reading it. At least SOUTHBANK had the decency to slink away.

On the thorny subject of falling attendances. I speak for the wheelchair folk of the North Bank. We have been strategically placed on the front row of the stand ever since it was first redeveloped. Our job has been to protect the able bodied from all weathers with our already battered frames. We occasionally take one for the team in the form of a cannonball shot from a wayward strikers boot. All this time we grin and bear it and cope with our hyperthermia and cuts and bruises admirably.Unfortunately our sentinal duties cannot be resumed until the first game in November against Wigan as the club in their wisdom have not yet built any suitable seating for us. Now why on earth would I want to sit in a warm pub watching the lads on the telly, quaffing several foaming pints of real ale, whilst stuffing my pie hole with a quality, reletively cheap pie, of contents various. Note this Mr. Moxey. And by the way, after 46 years following my team I’ll bloody well whinge if I want to.

spirited performance in the 2nd half but at 2 nil the game was over.
I just dont get why Edwards got the nod over adlene, Miljas.
He is so unremarkable. He pops up with an odd goal every season but makes little or no impact in most games.
He scores against a poor millwall side after 6 months out and gets straight in the side, anyone would think he as good as owen hargreaves, who couldnt get in the man city side after an excellent cup debut.
I not Micks biggest fan but I reckon we need 3-4 wins by the end of the year. that would put us on around 19-23points. 6 wins post xmas to get us to 40 pts

Reasonably good performance second half against a very ordinary (less Suarez) Liverpool team but I also thought there was a lack of ”urgency” with 5 minutes to go.
It was as if the team were happy with a 2-1 defeat at Anfield.

I see the same pant wetters that have been wrong about Moxey, Morgan, McCarthy and ‘Clipboard’ time after time after time are out of nappies again ?

    Same old story.

Edwards has a history of doing well between the midfield and strikers, Thats why he was deployed there. If MM was looking to replace someone in the middle, my money would have been on Guedioura filling in.

Fletcher didn’t start because he was injured.

Good performance overall, just didn’t create enough. Would’ve liked to have seen Hammill for Hunt after 65-70 instead of Guediora for Hunt only for the last 10 mins. Seemed like a strange one to me that.

However, as much as i too am a beliver that positive thinking brings results, I am also very very aware that is doesn’t ALWAYS do the job. A lot of effort needs to come from the energy area too andf in this case, the enrfgy area is WWFC

    Sir Stay Quiet Billy,
this approach of yours reminds me of an Ostrich. Clap away as much as you like but Moxey would be better off and therefor Wolves, by investing in players, never mind billboards or adverts in the E&S. What sort of pie in the sky ambition is that? Careful pal, you sound like the most prized Numpty I’ve read on these pages yet.

Funny how none of you bothered to respond about Warnock assembling a better team than us. McCarthy has squandered millions on dross and we are still relegation fodder.Having watched Norwich last night, I can’t see us finishing above them either. We go out an play like 11 strangers and then throw panic substitutions on in the “hope” it works….Zubar to play Saturday? Just nback from injury, will be slow, and off the pace…should fit in well with Edwards and Kightly

JIWAL – Its probably due to the fact that your last comment was so ridiculous that the majority of us couldnt stop laughing to read the rest.

Your probably one of the idiots that complained that Burnley were a better team than us, or Blackpool, only to be proven wrong when they fell down the league. I would have thought that its common knowledge that promoted clubs often have better starts to the season and its probably going to be the case this season as well. I do think QPR are the best of the promoted bunch by a country mile, and also think they will survive, but we wont find out if they are truly a better team than us until the end of the season, or more accurately, until they manage 3 consecutive seasons in the prem.

Its nice to see the so called fans make snap judgements as soon as a bad thing happenes, but these are the same people that come out with one swallow dont make a summer when the good times are rolling. Then they have the nerve to call the happy clappers deluded. At least they arent fickle morons who just like to have a moan for the sake of it.

Again…funny isn’t it that when things start going wrong that us realists are bombarded with “idiot” “moron” “fickle” . I would like you to tell me exactly what there is to be positibe about…team no better than last year, falling attendances, increasing admission costs, avearge playesr receiving crazy money… if you are happy struggling year after year, falling further and further behind the top 8 , good for you. However, I want the best possible for my fellow supporters, and that, we are not receiving and haven’t done for years. We will lose again Saturday, but I am confident we will win the meaningless cup tie against Man city in a few weeks….this season has all the hallmarks of what happened to Blues

JIWAL – Considering your bragging about prediciting a Liverpool win, I think its fair to say that you are a moron. I also told you why I thought that you might well be wrong about the promoted clubs being better than us, and then backed it up with some stats, but You seem to have just gone onto more whining.

We have lost 3 games this season, and before the season started, Im sure many of us realists would have expected 2 of them. We have been playing better than we did last season with only 1 poor performance so far. We are also sat mid table at the moment, with 3 reasonable matches coming up, and we have looked more solid than last season even though we have played 442 for the majority of matches. But your right, theres nothing to be positive about.

You call yourself a realist but your expecting a top 8 finnish this season, yet more evidence to back up my moron comment.

108…West Brom came up 2 season ago, and finished 11th….so why wouldn;t I expect us to be 3 places higher having had the benefit of successive seasons in the PL? You obviously don’t go to the games, we didn’t play brilliant at Blackburn, but got a great 3 points…Fulham were knackered after their Europa cup game 3 days earlier. ( and no Zamora)…we were awful against Villa second half and then we come up with the worst performance ever (in the PL)against QPR , and we choose to supplement a team 3 minutes from relegation with one new signing…(and an average one at that) We have a manager who is cluless regarding tactics, but very good at leaving out players who would make a difference…Hammill, Gued, Milijas….we play injured , off pace players ….Edwards, Kightly …as I said I can’t think of 3 teams worse than us this year….please don;t say Blackburn and Sunderland, because they will buy in January. All we have is an over priced product with no chance of winning anything. As I said, if that’s good for you…then we will never agree as you do not have the best interests of you fellow fans at heart. We have won nothing of any note for 51 years…. I was 2 at the time… I think teh fans are overdue something to really shout about…do you?

JIWAL – Like I said, you call yourself a realist and you use one club to back up your argument. What about the majority of other clubs who get relegated straight away or survive just about, but are then relegated the next season.

I would Love Wolves to be winning trophies competing at the highest level, I’m just intelligent enough to know its not going to happen straight away, and realistically mid table would be a fantastic acheivement for us this season. Relegation would be a disaster, and Mick should go if that was to happen, but looking at the bigger picture, I’m confident that wont happen.

I just hope at the end of the season, we can both agree on something, and hopefully that will be that Wolves had a good season, because if thats the case, everyone involved with Wolves is a winner.
