Stephen Ward insists Liverpool hold no fear

Utility man Stephen Ward insists previous experience means Wolves will bounce back as they prepare for a “no fear” trip to Liverpool.

Mick McCarthy’s side seek to put one of their worst Premier League performances against QPR behind them on Saturday when they go to Anfield, where Kenny Dalglish’s men are also smarting after their 4-0 thrashing at Tottenham last Sunday.

But Ward believes, after a meeting between the players this week and a 5-0 win over Millwall in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, Wolves will be ready for the Reds.

“It wasn’t the best preparation for a trip to Anfield but the way we are as a team, I think we’re capable of bouncing back,” he said. “We’ve done it so many times.

“Off the back of a defeat we’ve come back strong and if you look at our results against the teams in the top four or five last season they were outstanding, so we have no fear of going there and getting a result there.”

Ward was harshly sent off on his first visit to Anfield in December 2009 before scoring the only goal of the game last season.

“I’ve had two mixed games there, getting sent off in one game and scoring the winner in the other last season,” he said. “Who knows what lies in store for me this time!”

And team-mate Christophe Berra believes Wolves must return to their pre-Spurs form.

He added: “We need to raise our standards and get back to the levels we showed in the first three games of the season.

“We’re all disappointed and there have been a few harsh words said. What happens in the changing room stays there but it wasn’t good enough (last Saturday).

“But we’ve been in this situation many times and we need to take it on the chin and be thick-skinned and bounce back.”

Ward is expected to revert to left-back after being moved up front to partner Kevin Doyle against QPR but insisted he was happy to switch positions.

“I don’t find it (moving up front) too bad,” he said. “I’ve done it a few times and it’s not too hard to switch your head from defending to attacking.”

Roy Hodgson was in charge when Wolves won at Anfield last time  and Berra has warned they face a tougher test against Kenny Dalglish’s side.

“We won there last season but it will be a totally different game this time,” he said.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
