Michael Kightly sure Wolves can win

Michael Kightly has insisted Wolves will overcome Queens Park Rangers on Saturday if they repeat their Tottenham performance.

Wolves were beaten 2-0 by Spurs to lose their unbeaten record, but only after having more than their fair share of chances for 70 minutes in another good performance.

And Kightly, who returned to make his first Premier League start of the season, believes a similar display will reap a more positive outcome against the Londoners, who drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle last night.

The winger scored his first Wolves goal against QPR, the lone winner on 16 December 2006 and believes they could beat the Hoops again.

He said: “QPR have made some good signings in the window. They’ll be a tough outfit and we’ll have to be on top of our form to get a good result.

“But if we can produce another performance like we did on Saturday I’m hopeful we can do that.”

Kightly, who replaced the injured Matt Jarvis in the starting line-up against Spurs, is seeking more “stepping stones” as he inches closer to full fitness after a nightmare two years.

The former Tottenham schoolboy said: “I felt sharp and, touch wood, I’ve had no problems with my knees since last season, which is pleasing.

“Hopefully, Saturday will prove to be a stepping stone for me to build on and try to get a few more games and really push on.

“I was ‘cramping up’ towards the end but I’ve not had a Premier League start for a long time and, the more I can play, the fitter I will be.

“You can play all the reserve games in the world, but the tempo of first-team football is so much quicker.”
