Steven Fletcher looks to ‘Spurs spy’

Wolves hot-shot Steven Fletcher is looking for ‘Spurs spy’ Jamie O’Hara to help him continue his purple patch against Tottenham.

The £7million club record signing put Wolves ahead at White Hart Lane this time last year before losing 3-1, before scoring the late equaliser in the thrilling 3-3 draw at Molineux to kickstart a run of six goals in nine games.

It did so much to save the club’s Premier League status last season so, not surprisingly, the 24-year-old Scot is relishing the chance to lock horns with Spurs again.

And, with O’Hara facing his old club for the first time as a Wolves player tomorrow, Fletcher reckons it can only help.

He said: “It will be a tough match, but Jamie was with them for a while so he can give us an insight into what they’re about.

“I’ve got a good record against them and have scored a few. If I could carry it on that would be good for us.

“If you’ve scored a few goals against a team you’re going to be confident going into the game and, the way we’ve been performing, that stands us in good stead.”

Fletcher revealed midfielder O’Hara, who made 56 appearances for Spurs over six years, has taken his Cockney banter into the dressing room and is just as chirpy off the pitch as he is on the park.

The striker said: “I thought he was a really good player for Spurs, so it’s looking like he will be a top player for us.

“I think that was why they kept him for so long, but we managed to sign him permanently and we’re delighted to have him because he’s so effective.

“We’re all looking forward to the game but he’s looking forward to it especially. He’s a big character in the team – he’s a loud one. But we’ve got a few of them in the dressing room and that’s good.

“There aren’t many quiet ones which makes for a good set of lads.”

Fletcher also believes the presence of players such as O’Hara and fellow summer signing Roger Johnson will help turn the collective belief in the dressing room that Wolves are a team on the up into reality.

The former Burnley hitman said: “I think everyone looks at us from last season and thinks we’re going to struggle again.

“But we know what a good side we are and bringing in Jamie has given all the boys a confidence boost. Roger has strengthened us through the middle of defence, so we’ve got a good side.

“He’s a great asset for us – he’s strong, he’ll head everything and he’s a tidy footballer as well, which is good for us because we like to play football.

“We’re strong all the way through the middle now which can only be good for us.”
