Wolves star Matt Murray back for Millennium memories
Thursday 8th September 2011, 1:51PM BST.
Matt Murray has returned to the scene of his finest hour in the countdown to his big night.
The retired Wolves keeper, who hosts his 2003 play-off final reunion dinner this time next week at Molineux, has been back to the Millennium Stadium to retrace his steps from the famous victory.
Murray, who was man of match and saved a penalty in the 3-0 win against Sheffield United, returned to Cardiff to film a special video which will be screened on the night.
Guests at the dinner will be able to hear his thoughts on returning to the scene of his most famous match.
During the evening, there will also be a Q&A with other members of the side, including Paul Butler, as well as then Wolves boss Dave Jones.
On his visit to south Wales, Murray also took the ‘Toaster’ banner, which was unveiled by a group of fans after the final and reminded the football world it had been 19 years, 13 days, 22 hours and 20 minutes since Wolves had been in the top flight.
It’s been kindly donated to Murray’s testimonial committee by the fans who made it and will be displayed at the dinner.
The makers of the banner – all Wolves fans – have made several since, including one to mark the passing of the Stan Cullis Stand in May.

I and members of my family were seated in the front row of the second tier, right where that banner was placed. Before they placed it down, one of the fans asked me if I minded,I had a read at what it said,29 years and all that, and replied ‘didn’t they think it would put pressure on the players’.One of the guys replied ‘they deserve to be put under presure’. At halftime with us being 3 nil in the lead,I pulled up the banner. But I noticed they managed to get it down again soon after the start of the second half.I believe they were the same lot who unfurled the banner ‘you have let us down again’ after we lost to Norwich in the play offs.

I don’t say this lightly and to many people throw the comment around, but I do genuinely believe if Matt would have stayed match fit and got a couple of seasons in without injury, he would have been in the England squad at the very least, a really nice bloke, I just hope everything goes all right for him now, good luck Matt, u were awesome in Cardiff, still think we would have one down the following season, but it would have been a lot closer than it was, u t w

Won’t forget that day! M4 is “Matt Murray Man Mountain!” Matt deserves all the plaudits and compliments he receives, and then some. Always has time for supporters, the kddies, and speaks intelligently while never to far from slipping on the banana peel for a good laugh or a stitch-up. That he has stayed involved with the club, an ambassador and more, is a credit to him. Matt, we miss you on the pitch but are damn glad to have you in the fold! “Thanks for that great day in Cardiff!” UTMW!

5 Thehoffsleftsock:
Your spot on.Only injury robbed England of the best ‘keeper in his generation. He could’ve pushed Billy Wright’s 105 record pretty damn close.
