Wolves boss Mick McCarthy insisted Richard Stearman has done enough to stay in the team at right-back after admitting it was his extra height that won him the nod.

Stearman has been in solid form at full-back, overcoming the challenge of fans' favourites Kevin Foley and fit-again Ronald Zubar for the opening three Premier League games.

With top-flight teams packed with six-footers and with Wolves having a smallish midfield, McCarthy likes the extra insurance offered by 6ft 2in Stearman.

The Wolves boss said: "Stearman's had three great games and he'll be playing on Saturday," said McCarthy.

"Zubar came back from a long-term back injury but I picked Stearman because he was the right man for that Blackburn game.

"Having played against them in the last game of the season, I wanted height in my team."
