Matt Jarvis injury doubt for Wolves

Wolves have concerns over winger Matt Jarvis in the countdown to Saturday’s clash with Tottenham after he missed training with an ankle injury.

The England international sat out yesterday’s session for treatment after recent discomfort and there will be an anxious few days to see if he is fit for the Spurs clash.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “Jarvis has a problem with his ankle – he didn’t train yesterday.”

But while Jarvis could threaten Wolves’ ever-present line-up this season, Ronald Zubar is set to make his first appearance of the campaign.

The popular right-back is pencilled in to join Adlene Guedioura in the reserves’ squad for the trip to Blackburn on Monday.

If Jarvo is out, I’d go 4-3-3 v Spurs. Same defence, Henry, O’Hara, Milijas, Doyle, Fletcher, Hunt.

Think McFadden wuld be a good free signing. No to Diouf.

Easy solution play Hamill. Ok he isn’t quite Jarvis but he’s a dam good player and should be getting games.
Good news about Zubar and Guedioura though.

Despite what blogger Tim Spiers said last week about welcoming the worst team in the Premiership (he really should be more careful about his supposed humour) Tottenham will be a very dangerous side, especially with the new signings they’ve added.
If Matt Jarvis isn’t fit then Adam Hammill comes in, surely ? Players can’t be at the top of their game all the time and Matt had a bad’un at Villa Park. But we forgive him.
Let’s hope all the Wolves’ internationals return unscathed.

I did not think Jarvis actually contributed very much at the Villa, which maybe explained by the injury revelation. To be effective Jarvis has to be 100% fit.

Fortunately we are blessed with three other to class wingers – Hunt, Kightly and Hammell.

The question will be more about what system to employ without Jarvis for the game on Saturday. This maybe the time to revert to a 4-5-1 formation with Fletcher playing up front on his own.

Of course it has to be Hamill for Jarvo if Matt’s not fit to play, so no problem.

Agree with Farmer Ted about Tim Spiers’ humour because I was thinking exactly the same thing. Save the comments for after we’ve beaten Tottenham, Tim -that’s assuming we actually do. They’ve got quality -especially so with the new signings- and Harry’s boys be well up for a scrap after a miserable start to the campaign. Wolves will need to be in a similar frame of mind to take anything at all from that game.

We cannot play two wingers all the time but we can quite easily bring in Hammill or as someone suggested earlier bring in Milijas and go with a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 formation and if the former put Doyle out wide. Ultimately I would suggest that either Foley or Zubar should play at right back but MM might stick with Stearman, as he has been ok.
As for people who have said that Jarvis did not have a good game at Villa Park… true, but none of the midfielders played well either!

He was player of the season when we won the champtionship and where did he play right back!? That is the only place he should be. Fair enough if we have no other options but we do!

Also at villa he did well because he basically played as a second right back, when we settled for a point. So that would be negative to start like that against tottenham!

Wrong! Foley came on and played exactly the role Hunt should have done. Wide right and protecting his full back. On the other side Elokobi came on and Ward was pushed forward. Both Foley and Ward put Villa on the back foot by stopping the flow and attacking them. They created more opportunities (not chances) in the last twenty minutes than had been created during the previous seventy. It was a bit of class from our manager. We almost won it, although we didn’t deserve to.

Fozzy Bear – Agree 100%. People keep claiming that the change was defensive, but even though the players involved were in fact defenders, they in no way played a defensive game. Proof of this has to be the fact that in the time these defenders came on, Villa barely had the ball in our half. So to say Foley basically played as a second right back shows that he either these people didnt watch the match, or dont understand football.

Foley isn’t my ideal midfielder, he’s had good games and poor games, but, at Villa Park he and Ward were a revelation. Another ten minutes and we could have nicked it. He’s a very valuable squad player, and, incidentally at the moment IMO he is the only one capable of playing Karl Henry’s role should it be needed.

MIKEQB Foley can and has played in midfield, west ham away 2 seasons ago ( hit the bar in the early stages, scored a cracker against Bolton last season so no he cant play in midfield, numpty.
he was signed as a midfielder from luton and although he is decent defender as well, clearly he can play in midfield, played a blinder against Chelsea at home in midfield last season as well for the record.

When you have kightly and hammill who are natural right midfields, why play a right back there!?

And now you think he can play centre midfield, based on what? He can’t go forwards, he loses the ball is not goal threat what so ever!? Have I missed something??

    32) I bet that you cannot wait for them to make a mistake and have a go at Mad Mick for firstly picking them and secondly not signing players in their position. One of them played for his country last night and yet again there was a clean sheet and he remains undefeated as an international player and also if you went to all the games, you would know that alongside Roger Johnson he has been our star performer this season!

Jarvo is obviously our first choice winger and so would always be a loss to the team. Even if he is not fit for saturday we have able cover in the squad in Hammill and Kites so i am not overly concerned with Jarvo being out for a game.
Hammill and Jarvo will be chomping at the bit for an opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the starting line up should one of them be required.
In saying that, another option will be to start big George at full back with Wardy pushed forward into the left midfield berth.

    lets wait and see.

On a funny note…i see some Tesco,s seem to think they will pass us by up the premier league in a couple of weeks…….

MikeQB Are you getting totally confused or just being stubborn ? !
    1) I clearly stated that I would prefer Hammill to play (8)
    2) I did NOT say Karl Henry was poor. Where did you get that one from ?
    3) Foley is quite capable of playing in the holding role that Henry plays.
    Milijas ?
    What ?
You reckon he could play in the enforcer’s role ?
He couldn’t knock the skin off a rice pudding. Guediora and Edwards are attacking players.
    4) Putting aside the fact that Foley was a midfield player and forgetting your Sunday League jibe. There are thousands of examples of players in the professional game who have switched positions very successfully.
Let’s give you JUST THREE examples.
1)Currently CB Smalling is playing RB for United and winning praise (Oh yes he played for England too)
2)The recently departed and much loved Frank Munro was signed as an inside forward. You may know he became one of Wolves best centre halves.
    3) Going further back both RonFlowers and Bill Slater were attacking winghalves who played for Wolves and ENGLAND at centre half.
You really should give this game more thought

We would not be seeing some of the outrageous comments about stepehn ward if some of you had watched him against russia.
I will just say he was “AWFUL” got caught out of positions many times.Just watch the tape!!
Instaed of coming on here and saying how great he is! MM again saying how great he is,russia should have scored atleast 6 goals for goodness sake “WARD” was left for “DEAD” many times during the game.
Ward had two excellent games for us,the villa game he was not so good but on the day most of the team was not good. When ward was moved in more of an advanced role in the villa game his game improved.
I do however have a genuine concern about “DOYLE” he is just not looking hungry or sharp he is even losing his chest downs!!
I watched him in both of the irish games and both times he was poor and was brought off.
The first game he was not even in the first 11!
Foley is a v v good player “Mr.reliable” he should be “RB” everytime but “MM” as his own mad methods.
If Jarvo is out then “HAMILL” must be given the role end off.

Mike QB – Totally agree how Mick views Foley as a fill in midfielder baffles me and many others especially when we have two fit classy wingers in waiting. Mick brought on two defenders against Villa and it paid off we got a point but how people seem to think that we put in a great performance after those two came on is also baffling. We were still poor. It was also a massive gamble as if we had gone a goal down we had no options to bring on (before I get called a “numpty” it worked well done Mick)BTW Stearman’s sideys, Foley was signed as a right back not a midfielder.
