Mick hails ‘bargain’ Roger Johnson
Monday 29th August 2011, 12:30PM BST.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today declared he has signed one of the best defenders in the country and a “bargain” in £4.5m Roger Johnson.
The new Molineux captain was overlooked by watching England boss Fabio Capello for the Euro 2012 qualifiers despite producing another masterclass against Villa as McCarthy’s side made it successive clean sheets for the first time since April 2010 and for only the third time in the Premier League.
“We’ve probably got one of the best central defenders available,” said McCarthy.
Asked if he thought Johnson was a bargain at £4.5m, McCarthy said: “He was when I bought him and he’s proving to be even more so.”
