Sylvan Ebanks-Blake out for a month
Thursday 25th August 2011, 12:00PM BST.
Wolves were today dealt an injury blow after losing Sylvan Ebanks-Blake for a month with medial knee ligament damage.
The 25-year-old striker hurt his knee scoring his second goal in Tuesday’s 4-0 Carling Cup win over Northampton and was substituted soon after.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: “Sylvan scored two goals but unfortunately his injury is worse than it was on the night.
“He’s damaged his medial ligaments, so he might be out for a month.”
Ebanks-Blake’s injury leaves Wolves short of experienced cover up front, with Stefan Maierhofer joining Red Bull Salzburg for £1million and Andy Keogh on loan at Leeds until January.
After Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher, Sam Vokes and utility man Stephen Ward are next in line to play up front, with Leigh Griffiths pencilled in for a loan move.
McCarthy also revealed Alex McLeish leaving Birmingham and getting the job at Saturday’s opponents Villa deprived him of a holiday with his contemporary.
The Wolves boss said: “It’s a bit like me getting relegated and taking the West Brom job. I was due to go away with him as well but that had to be cancelled.
“It was a huge story but I was delighted for him, because he’s a top manager who really knows his football and has proved he’s a top manager.”
