Survival fight spurs on Stephen Hunt
Thursday 25th August 2011, 8:29AM BST.
Stephen Hunt believes the reason for Wolves’ 100 per cent start is last season’s successful survival mission.
Wolves go to Villa on Saturday seeking their third successive Premier League win, having reeled off back-to-back successes over Blackburn and Fulham before a 4-0 stroll at Northampton in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
Taking their successful survival scrap into account, Wolves have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six Premier League games – Champions League form taken over the season.
And winger Hunt believes Wolves’ survival rescue act of taking seven points out of the last 12, in the never-to-be-forgotten climax of 2010-11, has stood the squad in good stead.
He said: “Last season we won back-to-back games against West Brom and Sunderland, which was vitally important for us.
“That got us out of it and it was important for us to make it back-to-back wins again against Fulham last week because it gave us the belief that we can go on a run again.
“We’ve won four and drawn one out of our last six games in the Premier League from the back end of last season, so we’ve been in decent form.
“Staying up brought us relief and confidence to go on again with the feeling we can avoid the same struggles this time.”
