Kevin Doyle wants to keep run going
Thursday 25th August 2011, 3:30PM BST.
Kevin Doyle today admitted Wolves players won’t want the international break to come if they continue their excellent start at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Wolves go to Villa Park with confidence sky-high following their 100 per cent start to the season, with back-to-back victories over Blackburn and Fulham with followed by a 4-0 Carling Cup win at Northampton on Tuesday.
McCarthy’s side, who sign off for two weeks on Saturday before next hosting Tottenham on September 10, have also taken four points out of six at Villa Park since promotion in 2009.
And Doyle, who scored his first goal of the season in the 2-0 win against Fulham last Sunday, doesn’t want either promising run to end.
He said: “If we get a good result, we won’t want to play the internationals. We’ll just want keep that run going.
“We always seem to have very tough games against Villa, but we seem to do well against them and it will be nice to keep this run going.
“A lot of players at this level go away on internationals – we’re in Russia three days before the next game Wolves play.
“It takes it out of you and you want to keep that run going. But we’ll go into the Villa game hoping to get the right result.
“It’s a derby, so it would be nice to continue this run and hopefully not get beaten.”
