Liverpool are warned off Kevin Doyle

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy today gave Liverpool short shrift after they were linked with a £10million bid for Kevin Doyle.

Doyle is the subject of long-standing interest from Juventus and Arsenal.

But McCarthy feels any advances from Anfield are pointless, because Wolves are not prepared to sell one of their prize assets and would not have time to buy a replacement of they did.

The manager said: “I would ask a serious question as to that one. Where the hell is he going to play? They have Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt. That would do me, for starters.

“He’s inked in in my team every week. I’m just not having it. They might like him, of course they do.

“I’m certain a lot of them like him. But I really was sincere in the fact that I would now tell them to get lost.

“Where would we go to replace him? We couldn’t. Imagine if someone took one of my best players, it would rip the heart out of the team.

“Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara came here with the belief we were keeping all our best players, so I don’t think that would happen.”
