Wolves boss warns clubs off stars

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy today called for the transfer window to shut when the season starts and warned any potential bidders for his stars to “get lost.”

McCarthy’s side have reeled off back-to-back wins for a 100 per cent start to the season, with key players such as Kevin Doyle and Matt Jarvis in excellent form.

Juventus have a long-standing interest in Doyle, while Liverpool were linked with him today and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of the £6.5million striker.

But McCarthy, who refused to reveal if he had received any interest in his best players, warned anyone enquiring about his stars will be given short shrift.

He said: “I will be seriously intending for them to Foxtrot Oscar. I think the window should coincide with the start of the season because teams can be disrupted after that.

“Imagine if someone took one of my best players – it would rip the heart out of the team. Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara came here with the belief we were keeping all our best players, so I don’t think it will happen.

“If there were any calls, I would be telling them to get lost.”

McCarthy also revealed he will ring the changes for tomorrow’s Carling Cup second-round tie at Northampton.

He said: “There will be lots of changes because I’ve got a Premier League team waiting to play, so the ones who haven’t been playing will be playing tomorrow.”
