Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Maierhofer in Wolves’ 25-man squad
Monday 15th August 2011, 1:30PM BST.
Wolves striker Stefan Maierhofer today completed a dramatic return from exile by winning a place in the club’s 25-man squad.
Manager Mick McCarthy today revealed the 6ft 7ins Austria international, who has been loaned out to Bristol City and German club Duisburg, will be in his list of named players for Premier League duty.
The transfer window shuts on September 2 but the 28-year-old, who is into the last year of his contract, will be in McCarthy’s plans after playing his first Wolves game since December 2009 in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Blackburn.
The Wolves boss said: “I know my 25 – unless it changes – but Stefan will be in it. I have had the discussion with him to tell him what he needs to do to be in the team.
“He’s got to win all his headers at the far post, knock the ball down, get his fair share of goals and stop balls coming out of the box.
“So he’s got a greater understanding of what’s required.”
McCarthy admitted Maierhofer, who has only made one league start for Wolves and played 10 times for the club since his £1.8million move from Rapid Vienna two years ago this month, had been up for sale.
The manager said: “I don’t know about keeping him motivated – I’ve put him up for sale, I’ve sent him out on loan and I’ve brought him back.
“I’m not trying to motivate him – I was trying to sell him because it wasn’t working. If he comes back and does alright, then it’s a question of embracing him and trying to get the best out of him, which is what I’m trying to do.
“If we do, then we’ve got an asset in our team.”
McCarthy brought Maierhofer back in from the cold at the weekend at Ewood Park, where he scored his only Wolves goal on his debut in September 2009.

to be fair, Crouch would be nothing without a class midfielder providing raking crosses to latch onto.
New season, new midfield, new opportunities?

Geneva Wolf, Crouch is a different type of player, I remember him playing aganst Wolves as a kid, he ran the show. The Hoff needs to use his height and size more, for me he is a bit slow and clumsy for the premier league. Strikers are becoming more like midfielders these days, they need to work with the team. That is why we have players like Doyle and Fletcher, instead of a flair player, who does not work with the team.
At best the Hoff is an impact player last 10 minutes, if we are getting corners and a lot of crosses in, he needs to stengthen himself for this league.
Just as Hennessey does, his hand was limp for the goal that he let in, he needs to toughen up.

Basically filling the 4th Striker spot left vacant by Bent. With Keogh out on loan and Vokes not required to be in the 25 (I think) he might as well make use of it.

he needs a chance thats all….

If we are not going to sign any more players, he might as well be in the 25 man squad.
However, as the squad do not have to be registered until 2nd Sept, things can easily change.
Out of the three that were supposed to be up for sale (Keogh & Vokes being the other two), he probably is the one to keep. Long term I don’t think he will be retained.

The Hoff has the freakish proportions of Crouch, only without the heading ability or ball skills.

2-Kentish Wolf, That could mean he is either after new players still, or there may be more to the Arsenal and Jarvis story than we already know. Either way, things could change.

I’ve always said Ward is a good player, he’s also a better striker than Doyler and works as hard.
BOING~~~~BOING~~~~JtH.

Spanish Ray,I would hate to live my life in a negative bubble as you seem to enjoy doing. It may just mean that he is still seeking for the players, and has no idea whether he will get them. If he does, the 25 he has in mind will change. If not, he knows what his 25 is from the players available to him. A 5 year-old can understand that. How come you can’t? Are you sure you are a Wolves fan? I have never seen you write a positive posting yet.

As I believe I’ve posted before, maybe he’s going to do a Benjani – useless first season, returns to actually do some good for the team.
Maybe we should make him our penalty taker…
