Adlene Guedioura out for six weeks

Wolves have received an injury blow with news that Adlene Guedioura will be out for a minimum of six weeks.

The Algeria World Cup star is to undergo an operation on his troublesome right ankle after failing to shake off the problem he’s had since before returning to pre-season training.

It’s the second big blow to hit Guedioura, who only returned from a broken leg in March, and will sideline him for at least the first four Premier League games of the season, with the Queens Park Rangers home game on September 17 the earliest he could be expected to return to action.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “I’m hoping Adlene will only be six weeks once he’s had his operation. It’s been a bad few months for Adlene, but you would have to ask him about that.

“We want him fit because he’s a good player but injuries are just part of the game, unfortunately.

“I said to George Elokobi on Saturday, ‘how do you feel going back to Ipswich?’ because that was where he did his cruciate and medial ligaments, and he wasn’t bothered.

“At least David Edwards is coming along nicely now.”

The grim bulletin on Guedioura leaves Wolves a player down when McCarthy has already made signing a central midfielder a priority.

McCarthy also insisted defender Richard Stearman would be staying after speculation that Ipswich were interested in him.

The Wolves boss added: “I wouldn’t be willing to let him go, so that knocks that one right out of the water.

“’Stears is part of my squad and he’s staying.”

on a serious note, im really disapointed bout adlene getting injured AGAIN ! as i think if he’s fit could be the perfect player to play alongside ohara in the middle.

I rate him higher than Henry, no disrespect to him but not my type of player to be honest.

This is a shame, I was hoping he could have made a good impact from the start this season, let’s hope he does recover soon.

I see that McCarthy has played Zubar at CB, perhaps he has woken up to his best position, will he be good enough time will tell, but without him being tried we will never know, then maybe Foley will be able to be restored to his best position and get on with his game.

    Stop tinkering this season!

Is his middle name Lucky ? good squad player but we arent short of similar quality midfield players.

All this talk of no more signings is a huge worry. We needed 3 new defenders minimum. If anyone thinks Johnno will halt the tide on his own, they are deluded.

Ask Mick how many free headers from corners did Celtic have the other week.
And quel surpris (sort of f me in french) an untracked runner from midfield scores for Ipswich, and didnt it just have to be that idiot Bowyer.

It seems the Arsenal and Jarvis rumours are gathering pace now!!! Hope its not true as I feel the board would accept a sensible offer but not re-invest it in the team! If we could spend it all, and that means including the wages he was on, id accept 12 million and buy Dann and another quality midfielder. Having said that, a club like our could not tempt a £12m player which we currently have on the books!

Hard one, but to be fair its all about the re-investment on the pitch if we do sell. Hope we dont though. Gonna be a truggle this season as it is.

    Get these in:

Lewis McGugan (to cover for Guediora)
    James Tompkins
    Liam Ridgewell

Outlay should be no more than £7 million for the three of them. McGugan is a goalscoring midfielder with a great long range shot, is the right age and has great potential.

Tompkins is assured on the ball, has the experience and is a good age

Liam Ridgewell, could be the best answer to our LB problem.

Getting them would make me sleep a bit better in the run up to what is going to be another difficult season me thinks.

It is difficult at the moment with noises coming out of the Wolves camp at present regards our squad? I understand fully that we have to move on deadwood but potentially 12 have gone and we have not spent anywhere near what I would have expected either. Assuming that Ikeme goes out on loan and we shift Keogh, Vokes and the Hoff, this is what is left of the senior squad:-
Hennessey, De Vries, Foley, Zubar, Stearman, Johnson, Berra, Craddock, Elokobi, Ward, Kightly, Jarvis, Hunt, Hammill, Henry, Guedioura, Milijas, Edwards, O’Hara, Doyle, Fletcher, Ebanks-Blake

3 spaces! A left back, central midfielder and forward/goalkeeper.

Meanwhile Joey Barton is available on a free transfer. He’s a bit like Marmite, you either love him or loathe him. However, on his day he can be a very influential player.

The thing is, i don’t really understand why Mick & Jez are taking so long signing a left back. There are so many left backs in football and any left back that doesn’t play for Wolves is by default, better than what we have, available, affordable & would walk over broken glass to play for the club……..

It’s s simple. All they’ve got to do is log onto the transfer lift, go into “attributes” and make tackling, technique, marking & pace a minimum of 14 & then just take your pick…. probably pick up some south american wonder kid.

I urge fans not to pay it as it can only result in other clubs following suit!
