Wolves are strong for Roger Johnson
Friday 29th July 2011, 1:29PM BST.
Roger Johnson has insisted Wolves already have the squad to blitz their ‘survival scrappers’ tag.
Johnson claims Wolves have already come on “a million miles” from their first friendly at Crewe and reckons they are ready to launch the club towards an improved finish after two seasons of battling it out at the Premier League basement.
The £4.5m defender is set to address the problems at the back and the 28-year-old believes that with attacking options such as Matt Jarvis, Stephen Hunt, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher, Wolves will surprise a few teams this season – even though boss Mick McCarthy insists more signings are ‘unlikely.’
Johnson said: “The squad is decent. I think the manager is trying to get a couple more players in and we’ll have to see how that goes.
“But there’s a good team here with some great lads – we’ve got players here who can go and win games for us if everyone’s fit and stays fit.
“That being the case, we can get higher up that league table than we were last season.”
