Wolves boss believes in Kevin Doyle

Manager Mick McCarthy has declared Kevin Doyle continues to buy into the Wolves ‘project’ – and insists the club can provide the platform for him to get even better.

The £6.5million striker has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but Wolves haven’t received bids for any of the players they want to keep.

Doyle has brushed off the speculation in typical style, scoring a spectacular goal in the opening friendly at Crewe as he confirmed his return to full fitness, after missing most of last season’s run-in with a knee injury.

At 27, the Republic of Ireland international is approaching his peak and boss McCarthy believes Wolves will see an even better striker as he matures with the team.

He said: “I don’t see why Doyle can’t get better. He can do that if we improve and if we can provide him with more chances.

“He really bought into what we’re about two years ago and to be fair, he’s ripped it up, even when he wasn’t scoring.

“He’s been great – one of our top dogs.”
