Wolves boss’ warning to Matt Jarvis

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has insisted Matt Jarvis must get his Wolves form right if he is to win more England caps.

Jarvis won his first cap in the 1-1 friendly draw with Ghana in March but struggled to maintain the level of performance that got him noticed by national boss Fabio Capello.

The 25-year-old was dropped for the 3-1 wins against Albion and Sunderland – when he came off the bench to set up Steven Fletcher’s goal – before being recalled for the last game against Blackburn.

And boss McCarthy warned the former Gillingham flier, who scored the opener in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Notts County, needs to perform consistently for Wolves before he can start thinking about international career again.

The manager said: “His added incentive is to play in my team. If he plays in games for us then anything else that comes of it is a bonus.”

McCarthy hadn’t talked about England with the player since returning to pre-season training.

The Wolves boss said: “I’ve never given it a cursory thought. Of course I’m interested in him, but I asked him about his summer and his wedding and how he’s feeling.

“There was no discussion about anything else.”
