David Edwards returns to training

Wolves midfielder David Edwards today returned to full training to give the club a fitness boost.

The Wales international has not played since February because of a back injury but rejoined his team-mates this morning.

“Dave has stepped up his training and has had no reaction to his back,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

“He was a lot more upbeat this morning, but it’s just a question of progressing him and seeing if we can get him involved at some stage.”

McCarthy, meanwhile, refused to say how his talks with free agent Thomas Hitzlsperger went.

The former Villa midfielder was at Molineux last week for discussions after leaving West Ham at the end of the season.

But the Wolves boss would only say: “I won’t discuss transfer targets.”

I am afraid he is too injury prone now to feature in a regular team, had good prospects at one time but is very lightweight.

Hope he sorts out his injuries of which one was very bad, but is another of the players who should be sold.

Wish him well and he always puts a shift in, but at the end of the day he’s not true Premiership quality. We may have to keep as a squad member though in case of suspensions, injuries. Would rather get Spearing on loan than Hitzelsperger.

Edwards is a decent box-to-box player, but dont think hes got the physical attributes for that role in the Prem.
Good player to have on the bench though.

ONLY GOOD ENOUGH AS COVER IN AN ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY. Lee bit over the top innit, starting our 3rd season in the Prem, and i’m not saying this a a big McCarthty fan but he is getting better as a manager in his tactics, and he is controlled by the budget he is given so we cant just go and sign anybody you like, its not Football Manager !!

#5 – you are far too polite. What I would like to call #3 would be blocked.

I am proud of our club and what we are trying to achieve by upgrading the ground, the training facilities and the playing staff.

Mick has put the pride back into our club, Can’t wait for the new season to start,

Do you know how to turn the cap lock off on your p.c? Do you also realise that level of negativity is no help at all to a club that is on the up and up?

We need a left back asap i was at the county game on sat and big George in turned inside out by a league one winger! Can you see him coping against the likes of ashley young? Stewart downing? I think not last minute goal conceded once again. Roger johnson although a brilliant signing and player is not gonna be the saviour unless we address these other issues.

Dave Edwards has had quite a few decent games in the Premiership, over the last two years, but both he and Guedioura have had more than their fair share on injuries. It is not hard to see then, why we are after central midfield players? Karl Henry also deserved to be dropped last season and had as many bad as good games, although we do need to have a ball winning, battler in the centre.
A left back, central midfielder and possible striker is required. I reckon, however, that we will go with what we have as centre halves. Expect better things from Berra or Stearman with Johnson by their side.
    Celtic here we come!

    Dear Mr A Hammill
Can you just play the way you were before you got dropped?
We all know that if you don’t do as the manager says you will be frozen out of the team. Dont worry though as someone out there will see the quality that you have and pick you up.
I still think you are better than Jarvis so an England cap wont be far off.

    Kind Regards

When Edwards has featured in the side he has steadily improved, his progress has been stunted by constant injuries for the last two seasons. Is he lightweight? Don’t think so, was strong enough to give Man City’s defenders a real problem at Molienux this season. Also looked really good against Blackpool. If he could get a run in the side he would give us that body in the box that is missing when we play 4-5-1 and Doyle gets dragged wide.

11 lets hope Adam will step up a bit this season, sometimes looked a bit lost when he played last term, but he has the right sort of credentials (young hungry) for our team expirience will make him or break him. We are looking good for wingers so ffs lets get the defense up to prem standard !!!

John wolf are you seriously telling me you think George is a first choice prem left back? I was at the villa match my friend and we were lucky to get away with a one nil, why don’t you try going to a few matches instead of just seeing what everyone else is saying on here which by the way is that we need a left back! I have a soft spot for George as well and by all accounts what you read about him he seems a lovely guy but he is NOT a prem left back!

    12,

I understand your point, but I have to agree with 10, we are woeful especially @ LB & only marginally better @ RB, the fullback positions are the reason we were so poor defensively last season, based on last season NONE of our fullbacks would get into any other Prem team & I agree we MUST sign a LB for the new season.

    But I’m sure we will!!!!

Dave Edwards was showing some promise when he got injured. I think the jury is still out on him. We need to see more.

    No too clever for them.

10/20 and 12. Both right, Young was a bad example as anyone in the away section at Villa will have had a close view of him only being able to beat George by diving and elbowing. On the other hand, as my wide – who knows even less about football than English Exile did say ‘he’s a funny shape for a footballer’ as he kicked the ball in random directions last week,
However 20 – john clearly did attend the game, so why are you having a go at him for not going? This is the sort of playground behaviour that makes the site tiresome to many.

    20) I too was at Vile Park – as I was every league game – and we were not lucky! The result was fully deserved. Furthermore, away from home, we definitely should have got something from Old Trafford and at Fulham, Bolton and at the Tesco’s we conceded late on!
You are correct though that Elokobi should not be first choice. However, the players that constantly get slated on here – Ward, Elokobi, Berra, Steaeman, Edwards and Henry – have all had very good games in the Premiership. Memories are short! Who was at Spurs, where most of them played and we won 1 nil, for starters?
