Karl Henry expects battle for Wolves place

Captain Karl Henry today admitted he expects a battle for his Wolves place this season but declared: ‘Bring it on’.
Manager Mick McCarthy wants tigerish Liverpool youngster Jay Spearing on a season-long loan and has held talks with former Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger following his exit from West Ham.
McCarthy wants competition for Henry, who remains the only midfield ball-winner at the club apart from the untried David Davis.
And the 28-year-old skipper, who has been one of McCarthy’s most trusted players through his five-year reign, admits he is fighting for his place.
“I know the gaffer is working hard to bring in a couple of names and I hope another midfielder comes in who makes me up my game,” said Henry. “If we sign a midfielder who does what I do then hopefully I raise my game and try to keep them out of the team.”

For me nothing will change if we start with Mick as manager, Henry as captain and no quality left back.I would be happy with a quality left back and a new captain.

Karl Henry, if you need more competition for you to bring your game up then you are not the player who should wear a Wolves shirt. If you haven’t been giving 110% for the last couple of years then sod off, I’ve never heard such a pathetic statement.

The problem is Henry your game should already be at its highest! your our captain! your brain should not be in the mindstep that if the gaffa brings someone in i suppose id have to up my game! the very fact you know you have another gear to shift into proves to me that your just in a comfort zone week in week out! and to be honest it shows!!

i feel that we should have KH fighting for his role as captain! we have a couple of leaders in O’hara and R Johnson. i think it would be good to get a fresh captain. even though i appreciate all the work that KH has done, i think we need to step up a gear. i am not sayinbg we sell him / or drop him – unless there is someone better.
none-the-less, the next priority position is LB, then CB, then his position!
whatever MM does, i am sure will be the bestr for the squad, buty we need to cut out the schoolboy errors of jusat lashing out on players. . . we need someone with a bit more composure in tackling nd winning the ball. . .

Looks like McCarthy has woken up, we need competiton for Henry, Henry has always done what is asked of him in terms of effort, either he will never make top flight or as I have said before it is McCarthy’s fault as manager for not coaching his mistakes out of him.
McCarthy should never have made him Captain, you cannot blame him for accepting the position, but we need a new Captain and a true leader on the field.
Maybe we might just get one.
